Yes, do stay here. We stayed a this little lodge in the summer and had a lovely time. We had a beautifully decorated room with a very large en suite bathroom and a patio area to use. We found the staff and owners polite, the breakfasts were excellent and we had total peace and relaxation. Our room was cleaned everyday and our towels were replaced. We had a complimentary tea and coffee tray with complimentary water each day on the drinks tray. Yes there is a fridge which is loaded with drinks, bottles of Cornish water and chocolate to buy if you wish and this is stated clearly in the literature. We thought this was a nice added benefit. I must say that the cleanliness was also excellent throughout.

I deleted my first review after owners harassed me on phone, very unprofessional!
Stated on website is "fridge in room", but in the room is a note "for minibar use only"
with another note "small charge will be added to your bill if you consume your own alcohol" which is disgraceful!
We were charged for bottled water which states on the website as complimentary
We didn't get any bath towels during 5 night break nor the bathrobes which is stated on the website!
I'd rather sleep in a bivvy bag than stay here again! they should be shut down!

ABSOLUTELY SPEECHLESS These guests arrived on a 5 nights for the price of 4 offer and received on arrival my handmade complimentary Ice Cream, which is not something we usually offer to our guests. Each morning i would speak to the guests at length and we would all have a real laugh and good chats. All went well during their stay, and upon departure, they stated that they had thoroughly enjoyed their stay.No mention was made about anything commented upon in their review.. They stressed when they arrived that one of them had been ill and this was why we had given them the complimentary ice cream. Imagine our shock when we subsequently read a bad review some days later. We telephoned the guests to discuss, as they had also taken photographs of private areas of the property, which is also our home. and posted them on the internet. After a couple of days, the review disappeared, and we assumed they had seen sense, and removed it. We were even more upset to see a different review appear about a month later, which is basically saying damning things about the accommodation, and stating that we should be shut down. This is all based upon a lack of bath robes, a statement made about the mini-bar and no bath towels. In ten years, no nobody has even passed comment about the mini-bars, and the guests were definately provided with bath towels. They only had to ask if we had forgotten to provide them with bath robes. Are these matters, grounds to shut down a five star establishment? Anyone reading this review will probably think that it is way over the top, and totally unreasonable. They have given us the lowest marks(one out of five) in all categories. Why did they say that the accommodation was lovely, and the breakfasts superb! Unfortunately, people posting reviews like this can put people out of business, particularly small on. When we spoke at the telephone, the guests even argued about the rates they had been charged on their discounted offer. Finally, they had to agree thay they had not been overcharged. They were indeed given complimentary water. This is provided in the room upon arrival, but they subsequently drank all the glass bottles in the mini-bar each day, and this is not provided free of charge. I don't think it is anywhere. We have to pay for our bottled water, and this obviously has to be passed on to guests. We are still at a loss to know why this review has been posted, and secondly, in such an unpleasant way.

The room was lovely, and luxury standard. Bathroom with a great shower and jacuzzi. Big thick white towels. Breakfast was great from a traditional fry up to fruits, yogurts, porage and nuts, anything we wanted. We were a few miles from the Eden project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, and a range of other wonderful National Trust properties. We also had a choice of coastal villages to eat at in the evenings, just a few miles away as well, and a chance to join the Southwest Coastal path. Our hosts were ever so helpful and charming as well. A great trip!

We booked two nights stay as we were to attend a wedding. On the drive down from London to St. Austell we decided only to stay for one night and drive back to London straight after the wedding to avoid traffic. We called the hotel and asked them if we cancelled the second night, would be still be charged (they had already taken payment for the first night months before when we booked it). We said that if we would still be charged then we would stay the second night. The member of staff then started to get angry and said that we would still be charged for the second night. We said hold a minute we were only asking whether we could cancel the second night. He then proceeded to shout at us down the phone saying we have been trouble right from the start and he didn't want people like us staying in their hotel as we sounded like trouble. When we questioned what he meant by that he put the phone down. We were then called back by a woman (turns out to be the wife of the owner) who said that she had a very upset member of staff there. I told her that we were very upset by the way he spoke to us. She then proceeded to talk at me for at least five minutes and would not let me speak. I eventually had to shout down the phone and ask her to let me speak so I could could explain our side of the story. I tried to explain but she would not listen and insisted on interrupting. She told us that she didn't want is staying at their "lodge" (she refused to call it a hotel). I had no choice but to find another hotel for us to stay in that night. After a while we decided to call them back because we felt quite sick about way we had been treated. This time we got the owner on the phone. He agreed that we wouldn't have to pay for the second night but would still be charged for the second night even though we now couldn't stay there (this had already been charged to our credit card a few months ago). So we have paid £140 for nothing - except abuse. This all very much reminded us of Fawlty Towers. If we had ended up staying there and complained about the view would they have said what do you expect to see from a St. Austell hotel room window, the hanging gardens of Babylon or herds of stampeding wilder-beasts?"

Well we didn't see any of those things and we didn't even see the hotel (sorry lodge). We now wish that we had read these reviews before booking as we would never in a million years have booked. The owners and their staff are unbelievably rude and there is no way I would want to stay in an establishment that treats it's guests in this way. Both my husband and I have stayed in thousands of hotels around the world and have never experienced such rudeness.

Totally messed about by these guests. Firstly they booked a room with laterooms and made a reservation for 3 nights in a single room for 2 people as they only wanted to pay the cheapest rate possible. Then they cancelled it. Then they made a booking direct with us. Then on the day they were supposed to arrived they rang us and said they were not sure if they were coming. Then they rang and said they might be coming, but, would be arriving late. Then they rang again and said they were not coming. Each time their manner became more aggressive and threatening. In the end I said are you staying or not as I do not need this troulbe and they said hold on we are just on the phone looking at another place we fancy staying. Unfortunately at the end of the day we are running a business and we need to know if people are staying or not. I just don't know how people can act like this and tell mistruths.
