I pre-booked this hotel imagining it was just a pub with accommodation but was keen to have food available since that simplified things. Upon arrival, at dusk, cold and wet from riding the motorbike through fog and rain all day I was alarmed to find the place all shut up with 'Closed Mondays' signs on the door! I enquired next door and discovered accommodation was fine, just the bar and restaurant were closed Mondays. This was disappointing at first but then I discovered how many wonderful bars and eateries were available within 5 min pleasant walk. The room was very modern and comfortable with shared facilities a door away. The shared facilities were the best I have experienced in a pub or motel. Huge, immaculately clean, a double shower (I was travelling alone unfortunately) extra towels, quality soaps etc. I will return here in future, but not on a Monday. ps the restaurant looks excellent.
Went to this hotel with high expectations.Wrong,on entering the hotel we were told that they only had tables for 2 in the dining room, were directed to the bar with dining tables.menus delivered quickly, had a drink .waited for the staff to take our order & then we waited a long time for our food to come & only after I asked how long it would be amazingly it came not not long after,A hamburger.A fish pie.A lambshank & a risotto . the hamburger was overcooked ,The pies pastry was near burnt, the lamb shank meat didn,t, want to come off the bone ,the risotto average I wanted to complain but my wife wouldn,t let me .All in all didn,t live up to to to the Television review an expensive lunch with little satisfaction.Won,t be back& not on my favourite restaurants list.
A 1 night stay for a nearby wedding. Country pub, but not country pub prices. Rooms spacious, h and gh ceilings, comfy beds, but we missed the bit aboutshared bathrooms. We were in room 1, furthest away from the shared facilities, corridor creeping in the middle of the night not ideal! Bathrooms are large, well fitted out, plenty of towels, etc and heater. Pleasant staff, casual check in check out in the dining room. All good, except older folks take note re bathroom situation.
This gorgeous little hotel had quite the charm to it, right down to the bedrooms that still had the old marble fireplace and the disconnected bathrooms.
The bathrooms being apart from the room wasn't an issue, however some of the rooms had double shower cubicles that couldn't be partitioned, so if the hotel was full and you wanted a shower in private, it'd be a little strange.
However, it had all the touches that made this a comfortable stay. Thoroughly enjoyed the old hotel feel and the pretty furnishings.
Now here's a bit of class! This old Victorian era hotel has been gracefully modernised without losing any of its charm. Somebody with real taste has overseen the decor, the staff are extremely friendly and there's no "that's not my job" attitude among them. Everyone does everything - how refreshing! Their cafe next door has a wonderful array of fresh food and the dining-room in the hotel is first class. Couldn't rate it more highly.
