Baymont-Galveston suited me fine, during the Covid-19 pandemic. It's definitely faded and a bit grubby, like Galveston itself. The room was very large for the price, with a balcony overlooking a parking lot full of noisy seagulls, with a sliver of ocean visible if you crane your neck. They seemed to be operating on a skeleton staff, due to the pandemic, and were apologetic about it. Despite this, check-in was smooth and efficient and friendly.
Location is excellent, maybe 200 meters inland from the seawall. Close enough to hear waves crashing, close enough to smell salt in the air. There are dozens of restaurants and bars nearby, hopefully to reopen after this lockdown ends. Enough of them were open for takeout to keep me well-fed. I didn't bother asking whether they had breakfast, since I was in Galveston to eat, and wasn't going to settle for any hotel breakfast. There were no issues with WiFi. I saw a rather sad-looking little swimming pool, although it was closed for the health crisis. So were all the municipal beaches, although this wasn't the hotel's fault.
All in all, it was very good value. I probably wouldn't stay there for a romantic getaway, but I was traveling alone, and it was everything I needed it to be.
