We visited with friends in early May 2017. As it was early in the season, we had the place to ourselves having taken 2 of the 3 bedrooms, it was so peaceful that we opted to stay for an extra day.
Being welcomed with drinks is not unusual, but also in my experience not the norm. However in this we were truly spoiled, in that the drinks kept arriving upon request.
The views from the patio/veranda are spectacular overlooking the bay below (in the distance) and it is quite a sun trap, with a number of areas to seek shade if required. Al-freso dining is certainly possible, but you can also dine inside if the weather is cold / damp / windy. During our stay we took advantage of both options, but breakfast on the patio with such a view is a must (weather permitting)
We had asked in advance whether they could provide an evening meal, but such was the quality of the food and also the services, that we opted to eat there every evening.
The prices weren't cheap, but when compared to the restaurants in town, they were certainly better value for money, quality and quantity, and the service overall was outstanding - nothing seemed to be too much trouble. You could eat for less, BUT you would miss out on the dining experience provided by our wonderful hosts.
Much of the food is sourced locally, indeed often from their own grounds and gardens, and so is incredibly fresh and well presented. With fish and meat also sourced locally, you are at the mercy of the markets and fishermen in terms of availability, but the quality is superb.
Our hosts (Umberto and Flori) are very friendly and really want to please, and they provide service in a way that many others could learn from.
This was our first visit to Sardinia, and to la Madellena, and I was not disappointed - I would highly recommend this accommodation
