Modica and Ragusa are about 12 km away and this B&B is an excellent choice for a more than one day stay. Once located and taken the best of your ability in making a left side turn of the street in a busy Sicilian road you are OK. The entry to the free parking is tight and once there the environment is pleasant. .The newly renovated room spacious and pretty silent. Yet, the towels are changed only once every third day, a small nuissance since they are not very absorbent. Breakfast is included in the fare and lacks protein if one discounts the filling of the croissants. Yet, there is no orange juice and the bottled pear juice is no reasonable substitute. Walking to the main thoroughfare is a short distance slightly uphill on the return. Also the owner is very helpfull providing information as to get in an out to Ragusa and other nearby locations. Really easy if given the proper instructions as we found electronic means almost useless in most Sicilian towns. We were surprised by having to pay cash since the frequent Sicilian excuse that the bank device was broken, out ot battery etc was used in order to avoid paying the credit card comission. Also being Sicily we were informed we could have circumvented the travel agency reservation and making the reservations directly may have saved as much as 20%. Ce la vie Sicilien!
Thanks to Enzo and Maria we had an amazing weekend, they were really helpful and gave us tips where to eat and to visit. The B&B is amazing , nice and clean. The room is big with flat screen and fast wifi :) .It is in a perfect location just 5 mins walk to the centre, shops and restaurant and the best thing next to the bus stops.
Thanks a lot and hope to see you again :))))
Enzo Buffa, a trusting and accommodating Italian man with a nice B&B. We drove around Modica trying to find a B&B and then I remembered seeing B&B signs while driving in. So we backtracked up the hill a bit and found Pineta Monserrato . It was late afternoon, Enzo was ready to leave on an errand but gave us the key to a room and we settled in. Enzo didn't ask us for anything at the time, not even our name.
The room and bath were spacious and very clean. Wi-fi worked great. Bed was a typical bed for Italian lodging, not plush but we slept fine. Breakfast was adequate with fresh melon and really good crescents stuffed with sweet Ricotta cheese. Location good, just a short walk down the hill to the main street of town. Room was quiet despite proximity to the road. The rooms have been redone to the highest modern standards.
Enzo recommended a great little restaurant, A putia ro vinu which we ate at both nights we were in Modica.
There was quite a language barrier since Enzo speaks nearly no English and we didn't know much Italian. But Enzo worked very hard to make sure we understood each other, using jestures and hand signs when nothing else worked.
It was a bit tricky getting our car in and out of the B&B but we managed. And parking was free.
I'd be interested in checking out Enzo's other place at Marina di Modica, presumably near or on the Mediterranean.
Gigantic and comfy room, the bathroom alone could sleep an extra person or two. This was a tremendous value, with fine views of upper and lower Modica from the stairs in back of the property. Pineta Monserrato is overseen by a colorful character named Enzo, who has a great sense of humor and gave us the scoop on an array of inexpensive and delicious local restaurants. The ricotta-filled cornetto at breakfast was the finest we tasted over a 1-month holiday in Sicily. Refrigerator in the room was a nice surprise.
We stayed for only one night at Pineta Monserrato. We had a GPS so it wasn't difficult to find the B & B which is located very near the centre of the lower city. It was very handy having on site parking as we had quite a lot of luggage. Our room was spotlessly clean, beds comfortable. We had a family room with a large double (could have been two singles pushed together, not sure) and a smaller bed for our son. The bathroom was very spacious and we were surprised to find many toiletry products available. More than ample towels provided.
I am an exceptionally light sleeper and I could hear traffic noise during the night. Husband and son didn't hear a thing and slept soundly.
Breakfast was typically Italian with a twist. The owners give you a choice of several different types of croissant (pistacchio was very good) and they have one each available for you at breakfast time. Tea and coffee is also served with sweet biscuits, but that's it. Breakfast is eaten in the owner's summer kitchen which is very quaint.
Owners were kind enough to let us leave our cold items in the fridge for several hours after we had checked out.
Modica was one of our favourites places we visited in Sicily and in fact returned for a second day trip, although we were staying elsewhere.
We were very satisfied with the standard of accommodation and feel that Pineta Monserrato represents excellent value for money.
