The location is ofcourse quite rural. A car is essential. But great view, tranquility and fresh air. Charming rooms and courtyard. But as mentioned by others the walls are very thin. You can almost hear the neighbours breathing. Room 5/6 are probably the ones with the most disadvantage. Beds are against the same paper thin wall.
The weather was not pool weather, but it looked soothing for a hot day.
Nearby town of San Miguel offers a few restaurants.
I have never experienced tranquillity like it.
Quick drive to the property from the airport (we used TopCar Autoreisen, booked in advance and collected car at the airport – highly recommend!), Casa was easy to find (with google maps!), and nicely hidden away. Car hire is essential!
Check-in was nice and easy, and despite the lack of English spoken by the staff, and lack of Spanish from us, we managed. Our room was huge, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Although the walls are very thin! It does feel like your neighbours are in the same room. However, we found most people respectful, once they realised we could hear everything they were saying. On the plus side, this Casa is used by hikers, so people of all nationalities stay there.
The views from the terrace are incredible, and the location is fantastic for exploring. Both rural and coastal places are easily accessible.
There are some great restaurants within a 5 minute drive. Although beware... only one local restaurant is open on a Monday and books up quickly. Luckily a pizza takeaway in San Miguel saved our evening!
Breakfast is basic, but does the job. And comes with the added bonus of use of the fantastic kitchen.
All in all, this is a very friendly, perfectly charming little place, with everything you need for a change of scenery, away from the hustle and bustle. We'd love to return when the weather improves, to enjoy the terrace and pool more. Can't fault it!
This property was obviously a farmhouse in a previous life. Bedrooms now exist in what appears to have been the cattle barns, located around a small courtyard. The bedrooms have a few niggles; not enough electrical sockets - we had only one, not enough surfaces on which to place things, shower curtain (ugh) rather than screen, but more importantly, two deep steps across the room, between the bathroom and the main part of the room - dangerous at night!
The owners are not on site at night, but that does not seem to be an issue, Carlos was very helpful, good breakfasts, clean rooms and wifi.
Unfortunately, rather a lot of dog poo in the car park, and some beside the pool! Not sure if this was from the owner's dogs or the two dogs in the next door property.
Library was good but no bar.
We just stayed one week in this casa rural that we have found by coincidence and it was wonderful. The rooms are spotless, cleaned every day by a lovely lady, breakfast on the terrace was every morning a treat & a great start of the day (don't hesitate to squeeze the oranges in the kitchen for fresh orange juice). The rooms don't have a fridge, but it is no problem to use the fridge in the communal kitchen and they also have a living room for common use where you have some nice couch & chairs to relax. The WiFi sometimes works in the room and sometimes not, but on the terrace, in the reception area and in the living room you always have a good connection. As mentioned before Carlos is a great host and when interested he will share local restaurants, activities and walks with you.
We would highly recommend a stay at Vera de la Hoya and although you definitely need a car various restaurants & shops are within a 5 minute drive.
