We spent a wonderful week playing chamber music, and our accommodations at the Suites du Chateau were lovely. The big kitchen and dining area, comfortable beds, and beautifully renovated spaces within the thick castle walls impressed us. We were there during a record heat wave, and it never quite cooled off—so the pool and cooler plunge pool were much appreciated. Performing in the castle’s troglodyte cave was a treat (and it was cool)! Monique and Didier as well as Francis all made us feel welcome.
We stayed at the Chateau when on a Cycling for Softies holiday in August 2018. The accommodation is beautiful. Much thought has gone into ensuring the 'lofts' are individual and stylish - dull hotel accommodation this is not. It was also wonderfully quiet. Our private courtyard garden, plus the shared pool and walled garden were beautifully kept and an oasis after a day of cycling. The property owners were staying at the Chateau when we were there and they were terrific hosts. The village, Candes Saint Martin is small, with limited options for dining and shopping - though it has an amazing pottery and cave a vins. However, there is a larger village just 15 minutes walk away, that has great eating options, terrific food and flea market on Sundays, marvelous bakery and butcher, plus a shop for groceries. The area is perfect for cycling with children. I highly recommend both Chateau de Candes, and B'Spoke Cycling for Softies.
Stylish and very well done set of apartments. We met the owners and they were so so lovely! The other staff members were very helpful for everything we needed, bikes, reservations etc.
Set in the idilic village of Candes, it is up a bit of a Hill, but not too bad a walk, and a perfect atmospheric stroll to the gorgeous restaurant by the chapel below, along the chateau walls.
The apartments are part of a set and you all share a lovely garden courtyard as well as you're own terrace. We stayed in the Loire apartment which was great space with everything you need, plus a BBQ, and I have to mention, the beds were so comfortable! We had an extra bedroom on the mezze level. It would be great for kids, but not very private with no curtains or a door. We had a newly walking toddler and the stairs were quite a worry as they are open.
The pool is a short stroll across the quiet square and shared by the chateau hotel guests. It was never too busy and we met so many lovely people and we shared tips of trips and bike rides. Our kids loved it as it is surrounded by a very pretty orchard garden with a small chicken coup, plus the stunning chateau! It was the perfect place to hang out all day, complete with music system, tea making facitiltes, you're own towels, sauna, pool toys, and very comfy loungers. Heaven!
Thank you so much, we had the perfect holiday!
The first time in Loire and wow. We stayed in the 2 bedroom Panorama and loved every day of our 6 days. The suite was well appointed set in gardens with 3 other properties. There was a BBQ room and plenty of seating to eat al fresco. 100M away is the private spa and pool set in an orchard driving with fruit. Wher Audrey (a great host btw) told us we could eat the fruit but (please) not the Chickens. We always returned here late afternoon to relax and swim until 7pm.
Candes is quiet and beautiful... from the bar down on the quay, to the typically French bar/brasserie/petrol station.... so relaxing. A kilometre away more restaurants and a shop... all so easy to walk or cycle. The food shopping might be better with a car though.
Saumur and Chinon are appx 15Km away and again an easy cycle (try the electric bikes on hire all around). If you do cycle to Saumur take the Loire route and the cycle path takes you through a troglodyte cave! Castles, Chateau, an Abbey and more wine tastings than you can shake a stick at.... all add together to make a truly wonderful holiday.
Tucked away in tiny Candes Saint Martin is this collection of apartments which are affiliated with the Chateau du Moh. You are not staying in the hotel but in nearby apartments.
Our unit was very well appointed with a full kitchen and private sitting area outside in a small courtyard. The common pool is a 2 minute walk through the walled "streets" and is a perfect spot to decompress after a day of trekking around the region.
Only warning is there was not air conditioning in our unit - but we knew that in advance. This only was only an issue when a heat wave rolled in and temperatures crested 35 degrees for a few days and even then not s big deal.
Footpaths lead to a number of nearby villages and if you cycle you will be in heaven.
To get around you will want a car. There is parking right next to the suites - pro tip: rent a small car to navigate the narrow lane ways. Second pro tip: if arriving in Paris take the train to Tours and rent a car there - car rental and return in Paris is a nightmare.
There is not much in the way of services in the town proper but there are several larges villages a few minutes away by car with everything you need.
