We stayed here for a week while doing business in the area. The hotel is situated in an area of natural beauty but very little amenities.
The room I had was very small (two single beds squeezed in) and very dated looking. The shower, while functional, was weak and looked very old.
The list of tv stations showed some English news channels after station 31 but unfortunately the channels stopped at station 30.
The food in the restaurant was good quality, though the menu was quite small. The breakfast buffet was fine.
There is very little to do in the area in the evenings but the owner insisted on closing the bar at around 22:30, there are no other places to go so I had no option but to return to my little room to watch German language tv!
A very good hotel close to the busy Ebnisee lake and a focal point for several walks.
It is on multiple levels so takes a bit of initial orientation and the entrance is at the rear but not easy to get to by car. Just park and a short walk.
It was just out of season when we arrived so the gardens, play areas and spa facilities were deserted but eating or drinking on the various terraces in the early evening was a delight.
The staff were very attentive and helpful especially the receptionist who set us straight on the Roman sites like Aalen. Area is very popular with bikers, walkers and cyclists.
The food was very good and was of great amusement to us as the kitchen was close to our dining room and the sounds of warfare echoed especially when I ordered the gorgonzola eis special (that I had to try!) which they didn’t have.
The food, although very good, was the only let down in that the menu was limited to 3 starters and around 5 main courses and the special set menus had to be ordered 3 days in advance. For a longer stay this might be a downer but this might be due to the season’s end. Excellent service by three non-German waiters.
The room was very good but suffered a little from the traffic, which although a minor road, can be busy early mornings and a little noisy as hotel is on a sharp bend and a short steep hill.
The Hotel could be a great retreat, if the new owners add a lot to their service. Only two of the worst things: try to get a coffee after 11pm (bar service until 2am?!?). The owner offered us thermos with coffee from the afternoon..... Have lunch with a large group and try to get something other to drink than the water on the table... well good luck.
Apart from that I apparently took shortest straw, I had a single room with a 1.9m long bed, softest mattress ever, newly painted walls and a decades old carpet.
The food was very good, the area is worth a vist. If the service could improve an all rooms have ther refurbishment, the there will be a nice place to stay.
The Hotel is beautiful in a fascinating mountain scene at Ebnisee. Arriving to the hotel one can have a feeling of a small paradise. Inside there are beautyful furniture from classic to harmonic modern style - a very good point to their interior designer.
Their Thermal Spa is a must to see - the infrastructure is a bit old but in a very good shape - and the design was renewed. The pride of the Hotel interior are the bar and the Spa.
We were in October 2012 there with my Bride having a Double room for 3 nights. The first room we got had classic fashioned furniture, and a great view to the peaceful outside scene. The wall was a bit worn, along with the door - but the style was very good classic. The tiled wall in the bathroom was very untidy - having markings of blight under the new layer of silicone grout - so we asked for a new room. The new room was relatively o.k. with a poor bed and the heaters were somewhat warm. The bathroom was very old and in a bad shape (the tub were cracked and the shower "infrastructure" was very old, rusty and uneasy to handle). In the next morning the room was very cold (the ceiling is from concrete panels) - above the heaters there was 24 C degrees, in the room there was about 17-19. Outside there was freezing.
We called the hotel reception and they were very helpful and respective so they called the hotel manager: a man in a very old-style cloth, having stated that the heat level is good - according to his feelings. . He did not took our complaint too seriously. This lasted for 2 days. On the checkout day (Wednesday) the heating was good - too late. Immediately lots of flies and a few hornets showed up inside with closed windows! Then they made some extra goodies to make us happy for the day - small fee for not enough heating for 3 nights and not taking us seriously by the hotel manager of that time.
