I have stayed at the lunamar and really enjoyed it staff are great and work really hard to make sure you have a great holiday rooms are spacious clean two large pools one with slide food is nice you can get dolmus buses from the bottom of the hill that take you into marmaris
When I was 18 I visited Marmaris and stayed in Lunamar Apartments with a group of 6 friends.
We travelled with Thomas Cook, and they were great, and very helpful throughout.
For us the location was perfect because it was close enough to the Bar Street to get there in 10 minutes on the night buses available for next to nothing, but far enough away that we could have quieter times together. But I imagine the location for families may be a bit too far from the main parts of town/beaches.
The manager (forgot his name, sorry!) was polite but some of the staff weren't as nice. The Bar staff were a bit rude to me and my male friends, but very nice to my female friends. I understand they're young (under 30 mainly) and work for not much money, but it's still quite unprofessional. Also the British staff offering massages were a bit too persistent when trying to sell us their products.
There are two pools - One of which for children. Was fun for me and my friends!
The apartments themselves were well kept, cleaned most days. They are spacious and have the option of Air Conditioning (with a fee unfortunately…)
We enjoyed our stay and will recommend it definitely to groups of younger friends.
It all began with a booking at Sizzling Travel (Daniel) near the top of the Armutalan Road. We wanted a Turkish Bath experience for our final day's holiday, and had previously heard that a real Turkish Bath in the old town was the real deal compared to a hotel operation.
I would regret making this booking (despite priced at around £6) and blame myself for not questioning Daniel more for clarification of what it was we were actually getting, bearing in mind that these street Travel Operators have plenty of experience in wheeling and dealing.
Instead of the old town Turkish Bath, we ended up being taken to the Luminar Apartments just up the road, currently suspended from operations by Thomas Cook / Airtours, but kept ticking over with a skeleton staff to conduct Turkish Bath or other activities.
A dreadful experience because of a variety of reasons. We were kept waiting and un-informed for much of the time. The hotel had one pool in use and the other one empty. The bar was closed but drinks were offered afterwards with money changing hands in an ad-hock manner. Neither of the two hotel complexes were operational. The inside had broken lockers, builders materials left lying around, toilets unkept, a games room in tatters, and in every sense of the word an eyesore for anyone expecting a real Turkish Bath experience.
We were all subjected to several attempts an up-selling to waist our time as we had already decided and paid for a piecemeal deal (hence so much waiting around doing nothing for all customers of the Lumanar). In short, a pleasant sauna to start with of say 15 mins, a scrub of maybe say five minutes, a massage of upto ten minutes, and then some oil rubbed in of 5 mins. All-together, this might have lasted upto 45 minutes. No wonder they ask you to remove everything that includes watches except for trunks and bikinis. We were told at booking, the whole treatment would take two or three hours but this clearly included sales patter and waiting around!
As one comes to expect in Turkey or Marmaris in particular, the tourist industry is much less focussed on the individual's experience, but much more on selling anything to make extra money. It ended with a photo-shoot with head turban and towel wrapped around but this was a waist of time as the memory we would rather forget.
To give you a sense of how bad this was, the guys were busy focussed on talking to an attractive Dutch lady whilst she waited her turn instead of giving full attention to the person being treated. No sign of professionalism whatsoever. They were there to make extra money from additional services, photographs, and to have fun at your expense.
My verdict: a bunch of amateurs !! Make sure in advance the venue of your Turkish Bath, the service you will get, and minimum treatment and time you can expect for the money. If they told the truth, you probably would'nt go.
We ave stayed in these appartments 5 times, the staff are all friendly, Ali the bar man is a star and has become a good family friend.. Rooms are excellent I have never stayed anywhere with so. Much room and so clean, well done the cleaners.. Pools are great, although you do need to be up early 6 to 7 am to get sunbeds they go fast with people getting up putting towels on and then gong back to bed until 10.30/11am.I get up early sit on my sunbed & read or have a snoze iwas amazed that every bed was taken but not one person was sat there. The bar area was lovely with plenty of tables and very clean. Well stocked bar & fantastic cocktails... Food was ok, inexpensive and ok if u couldnt be botherd to go out, if this improved im sure lts f people would stay at the apartments on a night, Nightly entertainment was good and different every night. Going out in Turkey is great with a wide range of bars & restaurants. A good 5 minute walk all down hill to local bars and bus at te bottom of hill will take u to town or other bars 10 mins away. Fantastic views over Marmaris while sitting on the baloney having a night cap makes the Lunamar a perfect place to stay.
We arived the 25th of September 2012 at six in the morning. Staff we good and were helpful. They were six of us who went 2 adults and 4 four kids. We both took two diffrent apartments. When we arrived staff were there to take our bags to rooms. We did not need to pay for loo roll as people has put. They only promblem was the hill as it was a killer for my dad as he has a walking stick and can't walk very well.Breakfeast were cheap and even when we had lunch it was cheap. The two pools were cleaned everyday when we were there we even got clean towles everyday and clean bedsheets everyday. We are thinking about going back in two years time.
