We only stayed here one night, but it was a wonderful experience and we would be happy to do so again in the future! Ana was personally very helpful, there's an amazing rooftop garden, the room was perfect, and (as mentioned in the title) we had an enchanting, enclosed garden balcony... a perfect place to sit back with a glass of local rum and enjoy a cigar while surrounded by well-cared-for, manicured plants after a day of exploring Santa Clara!
I arrived for a weekend in Santa Clara and found the Hostel through a Website,I was greeted by Ana and everyone was friendly the room I had was the one with the balcony, which I loved decorated with all kinds of tropical plants, The bathroom was quite new and the hot water never ended which is a luxury n Cuba. It is about 6-7 blocks away from the center of town "Vidal Park" which is where everything goes on in Santa Clara. There is a huge roof top terrace full of plants, tables and sun bathing chairs with a great view of the city. I am returning to Cuba in 3 weeks and have already made my reservation at Hostel Ana,
It was the worst casa experience I had in the month I was in Cuba!
when we were leaving she entered the room she asked if we used the minibar and when we said no, she opened it and went through it (infront of us) and counted to make sure we are not lying to her.
The host was not very nice and told us at night that we cant stay the next day cause she has other clients and we have to get out at 10 am. The morning after she started knocking on our door at 9:30 every 5 minutes to make sure we are ready to get out.
Furthermore, she charged us 2 CUC for leaving our bags there for one night( that did not happen in ANY casa we stayed at!!)
She insisted on charging extra for breakfast at the end of our visit because I asked for a bit more fruit because I'm a vegeterian and don't eat eggs and ham.
If you have a choice, skip it!
I was traveling solo this winter in Cuba and visited five places (Havana, Vinales, Trinidad, Cienfuegos and Santa Clara). Ana's hostal was one of the best casaS I stayed at. She was very welcoming (she offered her phone so I could call my parents when I arrived). The day I left, my room was taken so I decided to walk outside while waiting to go to the airport. But I was feeling nauseous that day and came back to see Ana, she offered me her own bed to sleep in since my room was now taken. I had never seen a Cuban host being so concerned about his/her guests. Please do consider coming to this hostal, I've had terrible experiences with casa owners who don't give a damn about making sure your ok so I think it's important to encourage those who do.
Ana's Casa is very cute and quite centrally located (10 minutes walk to the center). The breakfast as well as dinner was very good and the room nicely decorated with a nice private terrace. Plan some time for your shower, the water pressure is very low.
