Was touring the far North of NZ on my motorbike and needed somewhere to stay the night. I had organised a room at a hotel in Taipa but on arrival found there was no suitable parking for my motorbike. Turned up to By the Bay at it seemed they had a room free (they did). Owner was very helpful and let me park my bike under cover.

View out to the sea was lovely. The crashing of the waves was quite loud but also soothing. I slept well.

The room and furnishings were quite basic but comfortable.

Owner recommended a Thai restaurant in nearby Mangonui, which was very nice. Only slight downside was that it was quite far away by foot (about half an hour).

For a short stay at a reasonable price highly recommended.

Tony and Brylee are to be congratulated for the high standard of accommodation provided. Our 2 bedroom unit was spec'd way beyond the usual motel and together with the beautiful beach at the foot of the property, quiet surrounds, proximity to nearby supermarket and friendly informative hosts, this motel is highly recommended. Our little dog was welcomed, allowed free run of the motel and was in heaven exploring the smells of the beach. Thank you Brylee and Tony.

Wow, what a beautiful setting was our reaction as we were greeted by Tony, the friendly and helpful owner. We stayed in the ground floor studio which enabled us to walk straight out to the garden and then the stunning beach. The room was very well equipped and the kitchen facilities more than adequate to cater for ourselves during our stay. Highly recommended.

We were a group of 8 friends and family staying in the 4 bedroom apartment for two nights, wish it could have been longer.
The apartment was very spacious, the living area was great - room for everyone and the view out across the bay was beautiful.
Tony was a great host - we would definitely recommend and will return.

By the Bay was our favorite accommodation during our three week visit to New Zealand. We initially booked 4 days, then extended it to 7 because we were so comfortable and happy with the place. We stayed in the two bedroom apt. It was spacious, attractive, had an updated and well-equipped kitchen, washer-dryer, a breathtaking beach view and a very comfortable bed. We also saw the studio and the 4 bedroom apartment and they were both lovely. The view from the 4 bedroom is particularly awesome.

Tony, the co-owner/manager was extremely helpful and friendly and was flexible when our plans changed. The beach is beautiful to look at and for walking - you can walk along the beach to a grocery store, butcher and liquor store in Coopers Beach. The village of Mangonui ( 2 km) has shops and a few restaurants. By the Bay Beach Apartments is the perfect location from which to explore the New Zealand’s Far North. The white sand beaches of Karikari are within a 20 minute drive - almost empty beaches with beautiful seashells.
This area is great for day trips north to Cape Reinga, Te Paki Giant Sand Dunes ( sand tobogganing ) and 90 Mile Beach and south to Russell and the Bay of Islands. There are many excellent hiking trails. We did the nearby Mangonui Heritage trail and Rangikapiti Pa with amazing views of Doubtless Bay. We also hiked the beautiful Wairakau Stream Track and got a boat ride ( & ride back to our car!) back from Whangaroa Harbour Water Taxi.

And at the end of each day, we could relax in the spa ( hot tub ) overlooking the beach at By the Bay. We can’t say enough good things about By the Bay Apartments. Tony is an excellent host and this place is very special.
