We visited early in our trip to Sri Lanka and are so glad we did. It's in a part of the country that is less visited than some other bits but completely worth the effort. Really beautiful place, best food of our trip and lovely staff. It's not cheap but there are no hidden costs. Once you've paid, you've paid...

This was our second visit to The Mud House. We just had to come back after last time, this time for four nights, and it still wasn't enough! We were greeted with such warmth, it felt like coming home. We LOVE everything about this place. The wildlife, the peace, the people, but most importantly the people. Nothing is too much,...

My partner Nick and I loved every moment of our experience at the Mud House. From the moment we arrived staff were attentive to our every need, they really are top class. We arrived earlier than expected and every measure was put in place to ensure we were out of the sun, bags taken off us and a cool drink...

The Mudhouse was our second stop on out tour of Sri Lanka and what an experience, it stayed with us for the whole trip and beyond. The outdoor accommodation and peaceful surroundings made it an ideal 'chill' retreat. The fun of cycling for your meals as well as trips out of bikes to go, bird watching, kayaking and swimming as...

The Mudhouse exceeded all our expectations and set a high benchmark for the rest of the trip. Here are some reasons why: 1. The setting is truly magical - try and arrive in the evening, when the whole site is lit up with kerosene lamps. 2. The houses are beyond wonderful. No walls, but boy, they have everything else. We...

My third visit to The Mudhouse... Each time, you can see them developing -- not growing in size, just moving closer and closer to their principles of sustainability and self-sufficiency, of comfort (luxury even) within simplicity. The same wonderful warm welcome, the same wildlife (on our first morning two peacocks came and roosted on the roof of our house, and...

We had an amazing stay at The Mudhouse. The accommodation and outdoor bathrooms are fantastic, the food is incredible, the staff wonderful. Our entire stay can be captured in superlatives. Cycling along the little dusty paths, swimming in the lakes - really really special especially with children. The only downside was that we were too hot under the mosquito nets...

This is a proper eco retreat, not one of those wanna-be fancy "eco hotels". A wonderful place to stay if you want to experience real sustainable living. It's surely not everyone's taste and it's not luxurious either but we just loved everything about the Mudhose: the whole eco approach, the fresh and organic food, the surrounding, the people and also...

We had a superb stay at Mudhouse. The staff make you feel like part of the family. The food is outstanding - locally sourced, organic and great flavours and dishes. The whole experience is like a safari such is the density and variety of wildlife. Being a city boy born and bred, I found it fairly challenging sleeping in the...

The mudhouse is the perfect way to escape from the modern world. There is very little in the way of technology but it was an incredible experience. We had a huge amount of space to ourselves. A massive treehouse with a double bed, hammock and balcony which we slept in. A tea and coffee hut, a huge hut with utility...
