We stayed at the above hotel on Saturday 14th May in a feature room which was nice our stay included dinner and breakfast....we went for dinner and from the start there was flies at our table, once our starter came down the flies seemed to multiply, we were swiping them of us and our food, my husband spoke to the waiter to be told it because we're in the countryside ( but when outside there was no flies) our main then came down and the flies were landing on all our dinners, we couldn't even eat it, we didn't even order dessert, my husband spoke to a member of staff and was told it would be passed on, next morning we couldn't even go in and eat breakfast with the thought of flies all over it, on paying nothing was mentioned from anyone and still charged for a meal that we couldn't eat for flies and a breakfast that we couldn't even try and eat because of the flies....needless to say we won't be returning and other guests we spoke to had complained too because of the flies flying round their food and landing on it.…
Over the years I’ve used the hotel for business meetings and always felt it was a very special place, so much so that when I retired a few years back I spent a few breaks with my partner and pre covid the experience did not disappoint. This weekend we booked 2 rooms on a dbb rate to celebrate my wife’s birthday with another couple. We both felt that it had lost its special ambiance The room was small, hot only had a shower and had a tiny bed, the other couple had a large room view large bed and bath, basically bearing no comparison. I accept the disparity can sometimes be the luck of the draw, but this difference was dramatic. The evening menu failed to excite and whilst the food was acceptable it failed to meet the quality I had previously experienced. First night I had posh fish and chips, the chips had no crunch and the batter on the fish was soggy. The fish reminded me of a pork escalope rather than a thick fillet of fish. The rhubarb dish however was excellent as was the general level of service. The breakfast was awful, the buffet choice was limited and generally un appetising. I had the eggs royal which looked lovely but cold hollandaise and cold poached eggs was a stomach turner. One of our party had poached eggs with crumpet, sadly they were basically hard boiled. The spa facilities were as I remembered but were starting to look a little tired. We ordered drinks with the meal but no mention was made as to which room to bill consequently all the drinks were put on one room, it wasn’t a massive problem as we sorted it as couples. I probably won’t go back, just feel that the special atmosphere was missing Sorry guys…
My 11 year old writes: ‘As soon as we walked in we could see that it was a beautiful hotel as it had lovely views for starters, friendly staff.. The food was amazing. Many activities on show including archery and clay shooting. Very child friendly, out in the open, we could see the lakes perfectly. Really shows the lake districts countryside beauty. Would definetly recommend for families. We had a wonderful time!’ She is right on all counts. A beautiful building in a beautiful location, views down to the lake and of the surrounding hills, walks from your door, fresh flowers in the comfortable public roons, fabulous cocktails in the gorgeous high ceilinged bar and excellent cooked breakfasts (expect Cumberland sausage, black pudding, Manx kippers). But… special praise goes for the cheese at dinner. Somebody here really, really loves cheese. The cheeseboard here is local- Cumbria and Lancashire cheese abound - well chosen and served at a great temperature with excellent Peter’s Yard biscuits and chutney. The Tovey, Eden Chieftain and Garstang Blue were stand outs but it was all good. What a showcase for great local produce. Well done and I hope more follow your example. Our meal was all good but this showed real care and thought.…
Enjoyed a lovely weekend break at Armathwaite Hall for my birthday. The dining room had just been refurbished & looked stunning, our meal was perfect and everyone so friendly. After our meal we had cocktails in the beautiful Art Deco bar. We stayed in a spa room located on the ground floor making it easy to walk the grounds with our four legged companion. Thank you to everyone at Armathwaite Hall for making our stay so special.
Simply Sublime... The level of service is superb. The staff work long hours however they are consumate professionals. The food is exquisite. Excellent options available also. Our room was clean comfortable and fit for purpose. My husband also thoroughly enjoyed going for a swim before breakfast too.
