First, it's out of the way a bit, so if you're driving you'll not be able to sample too much of the very decent range of real ales, or the rather good selection on the restaurant wine list. Shame, however your partner will have a great time. Christmas menu, not bad. Well priced and very tasty from what I saw...

Hotel is a little isolated in small village but very easy to get to just off main A road. Rooms very clean and warm (was -3 one of the nights 😱) although just happens a large party in attendance both nights we stayed no noise in rooms at all. Rooms were spacious and modern in decoration different to the traditional...

Came here for lunch whilst visiting friends who suggested it. When we walked in we could tell we were going to like it as the decor was just what we liked. The menu was large and we were pleased to see several game dishes. We opted for a game dish and were impressed how beautiful the food looked on the...

We called in here for a drink after a long day out walking. We were tempted by the set menu and also the more unusual choices on the regular menu. We decided to give the set menu a try which actually worked out at really good value - £48 for two people for three courses, a bottle of wine and...

I stayed 1 night at the Cook and Barker to break a journey from Teesside to Edinburgh. No problem with the room. Excellent evening meal, but the restaurant does seem to close early. Great pub and well kept real ale. I have listed the hotel as modern as it is an annex to the old world pub and restaurant.

Very disappointed with the room we were allocated on our first night - we were offered a much better room the following day. The difference between the two was vast and I would never have booked if it had been clear that some rooms are extremely dated and uninviting. You will not see any pictures of these on their own...

We have stayed here quite a lot over the years, but the new refurbishment has given the place a feel of luxury. There are a couple of huge suites too, if you want to 'push the boat out'. The Dinner Bed & Breakfast rate is the way to go, it's really good value.

We were recommend this by the B & B not far away and were so glad we went as the food, staff and setting was very acceptable. We actually went back the next night When they had a wedding on theywere very busy but the staff were still very attentive and the food just as good. Would go again for...

We stumbled on this place thanks to the recommendation of a pub owner in Alnwick. All three of us were tired - not least the dog - and wanting somewhere to stay for the night when, as they say, all the inns in Alnwick were full or looked less than attractive. So we went the 8 miles or so to...
