Situated on the banks of the Mekong river - looking over towards Laos. Staying at the Baan Tammila is more like living in a rustic old wooded ship. I love this place. Stayed two nights and was very fortunate to be there for a big Thai festival. Near to shops and bars etc. The welcome is warm and recommend porridge for breakfast.
We stayed two nights in the beautiful laid back Chiang Kong at Tammila guest house. The beautiful tropical gardens offer plenty of hidden spots to chill out or read a book. The wooden bungalows ooze character and have a magnificent view across the Mekong river to Laos. We had a fan room which offered plenty of air flow. The bathroom was basic but functional. Beds a bit average but the grandson how was managing the guest house was super friendly and helpful. I would stay here again for the chilled out asmosphere and beautiful views
This is a wonderful place to stay -- one of my favorites anywhere. Tammila is wonderful -- her quiet hospitality was almost magical. She bakes her own bread and the western-style breakfasts are wonderful, and she was always bringing us fresh fruit, in addition to the big stalk of free bananas that's always available. The common area / restaurant overlooking the river was one of the most comfortable places to linger, read, work, play cards, etc -- ever, anywhere we've stayed. We loved the cats who hung about, but if cats aren't your jam they'd be no bother (we had to actively work for their affection, but we won 2/3 of them over). We stayed in one of the older fan double rooms for 450 baht. Big, comfortable bed, super nice sheets. The wifi didn't work well in the room, but was good and reliable in the comfortable common area. It's super humid here, so not surprising to find a bit of mold in the bathroom and it's a good idea to wipe out drawers for powdery mold before putting your stuff in. The ensuite bathroom was basic, with a bucket flush Western toilet, reliable hot water, towels & soap provided, and some lizards saying hey. There are fancier rooms in a newer building that looked really nice, for 700 baht. We kept extending our stay because it was so nice to stay here. I'd highly recommend it -- I wish I could come back and just live here. : )…
We stayed here by accident ! but it was a cool memory. Actually, we would like to stay at Funky Box Hostel but the business is already closed. So we decided to just cross the road and stay in any guest house that exist there hahaha coz we were too tired from 100 km cycling from Chiang Rai. And Baan Tammila really made my day ! The staff is nice. The room is ok (some dust in the room) but the shower is not good. However, the view from the place is super beautiful ! It's only THB 450 / night which worth to stay ;)
This rambling wooden bungalow guest house looked a bit ramshackle at first but we really loved this place right on the river. We went for a cheaper fan room which was lovely, with a comfy firm bed and nice bedding, three good blankets as it can get cold at night. The room had tables and a clothes dryer to hang stuff on. Outside was a terrace shared with one other room with plenty of seats and great river views. Aircon room standards were even better, you're not just paying extra for aircon you don't need. The restaurant also had great views, the food was lovely and the staff friendly, we ate dinner and breakfast there. Each room had a 'tab' book to keep track of meals and drinks taken from the fridge. Bathroom was a bit dark and toilet was mandi flush but hot shower. Wifi wasn't strong.…
