At Solidarasia, we have organized custom-made and personalized travels in Southeast Asia for 15 years. We offer country real life experiences, encounters with country locals and to promote some communities project.

We discovered Thitaw Lay House in 2013 and since then we never changed. It is simply the best, if you like nature, privacy, quietness and authenticity. Their rooms are very comfortable, the breakfast is a real treat and discovery on its own, garden is so peaceful and relaxing.

As they present themselves, it is a guest house with heart, unique, the kind of places we like to present in our travels.

Quiet, warm and peaceful place like home. We enjoy breakfast with handmade Jam. The place is just 7 minutes walk from Rail Station and 15 minutes walk from Kalaw Market. The place you shouldn't miss to stay if you visit here.🆒☕🎶☂📷🚿💯💯💯

Thitaw Lay House is a wonderful place to stay with by far the best breakfast we had in all of Myanmar. There is delicious freshly made bread, pancakes, homemade yoghurt and cheese, as well as fried rice or noodles. The rooms are beautifully decorated and everything is brand new. It is easy to see that quality was a priority when setting up this bed and breakfast. The location is a little bit away from the centre which provides a very peaceful, relaxing atmosphere and it is still only a 20 minute walk to town or a couple minutes by taxi. It is cooler in the mountains of Kalaw and Thitaw Lay house is the perfect place to stay and get cozy under the thick blankets, or sit by the fire in the dining room. Most of all, the host Marc is very friendly and kind, going out of his way to ensure that you have an enjoyable stay. We had many conversations with him, and by the end of our short 2 night stay, we felt like we were staying with a friend rather than just at a hotel. He provided us with trekking suggestions and helped us book our train tickets. If you don't want to walk into town, there is a take away option for a restaurant with very good Myanmar/Chinese food at cheap prices. The other staff are also very helpful. If we are ever back in Kalaw, we would not stay anywhere else other than Thitaw Lay House.

Staying at Thitaw Lay House was just great and there's no doubt it belongs to the best guesthouses in Myanmar. Regarding the breakfast I'd say you won't find a better one: Cake, fruits, pancakes, various self made jams, self made yoghurt and most important the self made bread. Drinking water is available at all times. The rooms are spacious and clean, with high valued furniture and have very nice bathrooms. Marc - the owner - is more than only welcoming, he is really taking care and always has good advices. Thanks for a wonderful time at Kalaw!

The b&b is located a little bit out of town, perhaps a 10 min walk from the center. If you don't want to walk you can easily find a motorcycle taxi for around 500 to 1000 kyats (just ask around at shops or tea shops). The house itself is very nice and new, in the countryside surrounded by a beautiful garden. Our room was very big and offered simply everything you needed. Marc, the owner of this place, was more than friendly: he helped us with organizing our stay in Kalaw (where to hike, eat, etc). He prepared a long brochure where you can find easily all the information needed. Especially the description of a hike to a small village (2h, most recommendable).
The best: Marc gets up early in the morning to prepare a wonderful breakfast including self baked bread and banana cake! Delicious, to our taste the best breakfast we had during our trip to Myanmar! All in all: 5 stars, a wonderful place to stay while visiting the Kalaw area.

I read all the glowing reviews before my visit and I was not disappointed. Marc is a wonderful host - he went out of his way to help me with my plans and absolutely nothing was too much trouble. The rooms are so comfortable, spacious, perfectly clean, with a fantastic bathroom and very comfortable bed. Marc and Thitaw Lay House thoroughly deserve all these great reviews. There's not much more to say!

We had a wonderful stay at the Thitaw Lay house back in April. We stayed in one of the forest units. The room was absolutely lovely, very clean, has a nice bathroom (with hot water!) and soft beds! It was a very relaxing experience especially after coming from rather busy Bagan.
We liked especially the personal approach of Marc, the owner who is also Belgian :). He takes very good care of all of his guests and is always happy to help with any question. The breakfast was the best we have had in Myanmar, everything fresh and very tasty, prepared by Marc. We had breakfast in the garden.
The second evening we ordered food with another couple we met in the b&b, from a restaurant nearby recommended by Marc. It was nice not to have to go out to a restaurant again and just have a relaxed meal at the house!
We often think back to our stay in Kalaw and hope we can visit the Thitaw Lay house again one day.

We did the two day trek from inle lake ,(which was fantastic ), so we needed a room in kalaw ! booked this on agoda before we set off for 32usd for two inc breakfast! This is a bargain, it's owned by a Belgium chap and his wife and it's only two months old .(march 2014) , we stayed in the garden room ,which is a wooden hut in the lovely garden. There are only 3 of these and there big with two large single beds which are very very comfortable , the hut is very tastefully decorated and has a large modern bathroom. This hotel is right on the walk into kalaw so it was perfect , the distance to kalaw town is 20 mins , railway station 10 mins. ( walking) And the owner will collect you or drop you off for no charge. The breakfast is fantastic and all home made , bread yogurt cheese etc and fruit. We loved it here ,and if your thinking of just using this as as stop over before inle lake I'd stay more than one night as there's loads of treks all around kalaw. This is great accommodation and a really lovely place to stay , ! 100% recommend .

We loved everything about the Thitaw Lay House. We planned to be there
for 2 nights, but ended up staying six and would have extended if we
had not needed to take our flight! Wonderful hospitality of Marc and
Aye Mar, supported by their charming and helpful staff. It's a small,
gardened, brand new, very clean and comfortable guesthouse in a
beautiful, non-dusty location with lush green trees, bushes and
flowers, on a hillside just outside of Kalaw, but close enough to walk
to town. It is relaxing to look at the garden with its lovingly
planted flowers and the herbal garden with e.g. thyme (good for tea
if you have a cold). Nearby are beautiful forested trails in a
protected forest where you can spend hours or days roaming. The
bungalows are charming with great beds, cozy duvets, warm showers, and
the best toilet paper we so far encountered in the country. The
bungalows are nicely furnished, including a little terrace where you
can sit, relax and enjoy the sun and the countryside scents. The common
facilities are very nice, with a warm wood stove, society games,
books, nice music and TV (which you are not likely to need), and we
spent many hours chatting with our hosts and fellow-guests. The
breakfasts are probably the best we've ever had at a guesthouse
anywhere in the world, combining European and Myanmar fare. There is
home-made bread and jam free of additives, avocados from the garden,
etc. Marc drove us into town when needed to go to the ATM, the
postoffice and the interesting local market. Our whole Kalaw
experience was made unforgettable by our stay at Thitaw Lay House, and
we hope to go back in the not too distant future whenever we come back
to Myanmar.

We stayed here just one night before the start of our trek and it was one of the loveliest stays of our 12 day Myanmar trip! This B&B is a small property with just 3 units to book. We stayed in the room located in the main house and it was more than enough space for two. The room is simply decorated, with a large enough bathroom, rustic wooden floors and all the amenities you'll need. Breakfast was certainly a highlight of our stay, with fresh made eggs, fruit, crepes and banana bread.

Thitaw Lay House is located about a 15 minute easy walk from the main town, which is fun to explore. If you don't feel like walking, Marc (the owner) will arrange for a taxi which isn't expensive at all. Too lazy to go out for dinner? Marc will arrange for a local restaurant to bring dinner to the B&B (there's a tiny fee for the driver)!
