.....by a previously booked hotel in the area, my friend and I (2 ladies) came to Wem with a view to finding accommodation for 2 nights. We were recommended this hotel by the landlord at the 'Castle' inn and hot-footed it over there to find most welcoming hosts, Wendy and Gary, and a thoroughly fine, clean establishment with nicely appointed twin room for our stay - at a very competitive price. Thanks again for fitting us in at such short notice. Situated on the doorstep of the train station, it's an ideal place to be based in Shropshire if wanting to explore by foot or bike. Check out the food at the 'Castle' inn on the high street too - our salmon was lovely!

This gem of a hotel was fully booked on the Saturday night, as I would have stayed for the whole weekend. I arrived Sunday to attend a Ruby Wedding Anniversary in Wem, and the owners were very helpful even going so far as offering me a lift to the venue as I was in my "frock". The hotel was clean and the breakfast excellent. My only very minor quibble was that I wished I had known I was going to have a shower en-suite as I would have brought a shower cap! I did not wish to get my hair wet, but I managed.
I wish the owners all the best for the future.

My wife has just returned traumatised from a stay in this guest house. She woke to find the owner of this establishment standing in her bedroom at 7:00 in the morning. When questioned he was evasive and tried to laugh it off and tried to blame a resident ghost........ She will not return to this establishment ever... Creepy......

We would like to say firstly that our guests’ safety and wellbeing are of paramount Importance. We have a legal obligation to act on anything that we conceive to be a threat, and to intervene 'as sensitively as possible' in suspicious circumstances. The lady in question was one of two middle-aged sisters staying with us as guests (they were sharing the same suite and attending a wedding in Wem). At various times through the night, we had noticed that their bedroom lights were full on and the curtains were wide open (like a bright summer's day). This made us concerned in case something was not right. (We had had a recent experience where a guest had become seriously ill in the middle of the night, which we only discovered on eventually entering his room in the morning, and so this was very fresh in our minds.) Therefore, at 7.30 am, we had become so concerned that we decided to investigate, wondering if they were safe and well. The door to their suite was unlocked and their lounge area was untouched, giving the impression that their rooms had not been lived in and that no one was at home. The owner did call out as he entered the suite and eventually looked into the bedroom to see if anyone was there and if everything was alright - which thankfully it was. One of the ladies, at checking-out time, questioned our actions and called them an 'invasion of privacy'. We fully agree that this incidence was embarrassing for all parties (hence the attempt at a light-hearted comment), but we had acted out of good, not sinister, intentions and at least everyone was found safe and well. One of the ladies also said: "I always go to bed of a night-time with the bedroom lights on!' We have never come across this habit before - if we had known or been told we would not have needed to worry and we would not have intervened as we had.

I booked accommodation for 4 adults and 2 small children weeks in advance and was not asked for a deposit - trust is a rare commodity these days. We were not disappointed. We had a lovely welcoming greeting and were allocated good rooms, comfortable, squeaky clean and with great facilities. The house and grounds are lovely and are patrolled by a much loved tabby cat. Be ready with your wit as the hosts are a hoot! Breakfast is excellent, plenty of options and seriously large portions! Please do not change a thing! Highly highly highly recommended.

My grandmother lives in Wem and two of my best friends are moving here. I joined them for breakfast. The hosts could not be more informed, helpful or charming. I have severe food allergies and Wendy the owner took this in her stride, providing me with the best gluten-free sausages I have ever tasted. The place is spacious, vintage decor meets all mod cons, and immaculate. The room my friend was in looked lovely and was fully equipped. There were even chickens wandering around, it could not have been nicer. Excellent job, should be thoroughly proud. It is also very conveniently located within walking distance of the train station

Stayed a couple of nights, and was extremely happy. The couple who run it are lovely and welcoming, the room we stayed in was wonderful, and the breakfasts are excellent as you can have a choice of fruit and yoghurt, cereals and a cooked one. It's near Wem centre, easy to get there by car or train as the station is nearby. Loved it so much that I'll be going there again. Highly recommended
