Hawkstone Hall & Gardens is often described as a regal retreat, with many guests feeling like royalty amid its opulent amenities and well-kept gardens. The hotel's location is a hit for those seeking romantic escapes, set in a picturesque environment. Service at the hotel generally receives high marks for its professionalism and friendliness, although experiences can vary.
The charm of the historically rich atmosphere coupled with modern sophistication makes for a welcoming stay. However, while rooms are praised for their beauty and cleanliness, some guests point out that the size and value might not always meet expectations.

First of all, apologies for the wonderful staff and owners for this late review but, as we all know, events have taken a strange turn lately. I had to write this review though because this place is so very special.
We stayed here for one night on a trip back from Scotland in March and I can't say enough great things about this amazing hotel. We were greeted on arrival with a glass of chilled champagne in the sitting room, accompanied by some wonderful piped vintage music. It was so atmospheric, I felt like I was in an Agatha Christie movie!
Our room and en-suite bathroom were very luxurious and our little Chihuahua dog was given a gift bag for his stay (picture attached). We also had a cocktail trolley in our room and lots of little extras like scented sprays for the pillows to aid sleep.
This stunning house has been has been beautifully restored by the current owners and I can't recommend it enough for a romantic break. We ate dinner in the evening and the food was exceptional!
Many thanks too to Michelle who gave us a very informative and fascinating tour of the house the next morning. I had no idea it had so much history!
Can't wait to return as soon as this isolation stuff is over ...and that is a promise. We will see you soon. Thanks again for a memorable stay!

We stayed here as a family of 4 with 2 older teens and a dog and we loved every minute.
The house is beautifully renovated to an extremely high standard - the bedrooms are gorgeous and the dining room is spectacular - and the gardens are lovely.
The staff are really attentive and nothing is too much trouble - special mentions go to James, Richard and Michelle, who always had a breakfast treat for the dog!
There is hand sanitiser at reception and the staff are all wearing masks and there is plenty of space for social distancing in the communal areas.
We feel like we have discovered a little gem (and one that we are almost reluctant to share!)
We can't wait for the spa to open so that we can use it when we return.

From the time we walked in to the time we left my sister and I were made to feel so welcome.
On arrival we were greeted by a lovely Receptionist offering a glass of Prosecco who then proceeded to get us swiftly checked in and shown to our room. One thing lacking in the room was a fridge, apart from that the room was perfect.
We had dinner in the Saloon restaurant and, although the food was fabulous, the service needs some improvement. More attention needs to be paid to making sure guests aren’t left waiting for something that has been promised, eg a menu. A minor issue, but not the high standard of service you expect from a five star establishment.
Service seemed very disjointed, it certainly didnt run as smoothly as our dinner in the Hills Restaurant the following evening. Service there was noticeably better, so well done to those staff.
All in all Hawkstone should be very proud. Your staff are so welcoming, attentive and guests are made to feel like part of the family.
Particular mention goes to Michelle, Scott and the lady from Reception (sorry didn’t get her name) who made us feel like nothing was too much trouble. Their enthusiasm and dedication was very evident right from the start.
We finished our weekend off with a buggy tour of the gardens courtesy of Scott who was very knowledgeable and gave a very interesting commentary as we toured round which made it even more interesting for us.
One thing we would like to mention is that it would be helpful if staff wore name badges, particularly as it is more difficult to identify staff at the current time when they, quite rightly are wearing masks.
In the current circumstances we both felt very safe, something that was of particular importance to us, as we are both in the High Risk category. It was reassuring that staff wore masks and hand gel was aplenty around the building.
Thank you for a memorable weekend, we will be back!

Beautiful and elegant country house set in vast open countryside. The public rooms contain impressive frescos and are furnished with cosy period furniture. In the main we found the staff to be friendly and helpful. So why only 2 stars? We stayed in one of their 'Classic Double Rooms' which was charged at £175 per night. We found the room to be very cramped despite having no chairs or coffee table; in fact I have stayed in single hotel rooms with more space. By contrast the bathroom was quite large but disappointingly it didn't have a bath, only a shower. Befitting the age of the house the windows were sash style but they wouldn't open and they made a hell of a racket when the wind blew. I asked the reception to look at the problem but instead of sending someone up to resolve the issue, they suggested I roll up a newspaper and wedge it between the window frames. This was quite precarious as I only had the dressing table stool to stand on; I really expected a bit more from a high end establishment. Although set in beautiful grounds our room looked over shabby out buildings (image attached) and there was a some unwelcome noise from staff and deliveries.
Another annoyance was that breakfast on our final day took an hour and 10 minutes to complete which made us half and hour late for our scheduled visit to the nearby follies.
One final point relating to COVID19 precautions, the hotel's staff all wear face masks and the buffet style breakfast has been removed in favour of table service which is excellent, however there is one glaring oversight. Guests are expected to help themselves to fruit juices from jugs and dispensers which makes the process incredibly susceptible to cross contamination. Also I feel the hotel should have had an antibacterial dispenser at the entry to the restaurant.

From the moment we arrived down the lengthy drive, we were suddenly greeted by the most spectacular view of the Hall (it was definitely worth the wait!). We entered through the grand front doors where there was chilled prosecco ready and waiting for us. This was a lovely touch. The reception staff were delightful when checking in, and shortly after we were shown up the most spectacular staircase to our room. As we were walking to our Classic room, one of the Luxury Suit doors flew open, and wow did it look beautiful. I whispered to my partner that we might be disappointed with our Classic room, but I was most definitely wrong! Our room was so light and airy, and even had space for me to completed some work duties before we headed back downstairs. The staff were ever so attentive and passionate, particularly when ordering the cocktails.
From start to finish we had the most amazing experience and would recommend to everyone. I would also like to praise the staff for their conscious effort to make us feel as comfortable as possible by wearing correct PPE and providing hand sanitising stations at all touch points. Their COVID safe precautions were second to none.
We can't wait to book a return visit in the near future. Thanks again Hawkstone Hall!

Stayed for two nights 8/9th September. On our arrival we attempted to check in at 4pm. Reception staff stated that rooms are not ready- waited around for 2 and half hours. It got worse thereafter. We were booked in for evening meal 7:45, we eventually ate at 10pm. When we complained , they said they had staffing issues or the lack of staff. This appeared evident when we saw same staff cleaning rooms and also seen serving food.
There was some positives- when we eventually checked in, Pauline was very polite and helpful. She should be commended by her money pinching bosses. The other positive when I pointed out the poor service, the staff reduced the price of hotel bill to reflect the poor service.
In conclusion, It didn’t leave us with a great first impression. I think the staff are good workers, but management need to take on more staff, to run an efficient service.

Hi Carlcarly, Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay at Hawkstone Hall & Gardens. We, along with the rest of the hospitality industry at the moment have experienced great challenges in regards to staffing as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic. We have tried our best to adapt with minimal disruption to our guests, and unfortunately, as we strive to do our best, disruptions still do occur. I can only apologize that your stay was impacted by this. I will be sure to pass on your kind comments to Paula as she certainly is an asset to our team. Many thanks, Martin

We arrived to the grandeur of the fully lit country house WOW! Although we were the only couple dining that evening we were not rushed and the evening although of the highest quality was relaxed but formal. The drinks were served in the lovely morning room with some tasty marinated olives we were then shown through to the dining room. All dishes were presented and explained by our lovely waitress and a fab chef. Even my wife as a vegetarian was blown away with the inventiveness and flavours/ textures in her dishes. It was reasonably priced for the quality presented and we will definitely return. It looks like it has been refurbished in the last year or 2 and is tastefully done. Look forward to doing an overnight stay and make full use of the facilities. See you again soon!!!

We arrived early for our dinner, bed and breakfast retreat so to experience Hawkstone's afternoon tea. the gated entrance leads down a country road where at the end you treated to a stunning view of this gorgeous building. On arrival we were greeted at our car by the concierge who kindly sheltered us with his umbrella whilst helping us with our luggage. We were then given a lovely glass of bubbly which will always go down well with me!
After a couple of delicious cocktails in the snug, we moved through to the main dining room for our afternoon tea which did not disappoint. All items delicately presented and delicious all the same. Prior to starting on my sweeter treats, I claimed I wasn't a big fan of macaroons however the lemon macaroon served certainly changed my mind. Best I've ever had! The scones were perfectly baked with a nice crumble to them. This pastry chef deserves a Paul Hollywood handshake!
We then decided to check out our room, to our pleasant surprise we had been upgraded to the Beatrix suite which was exceptional. Lovely grand room and bathroom with beautiful decor and everything you need in a room from cosy dressing gown to cocktail shaker. Unfortunately the bed was extremely comfortable which made it impossible to get out of in the morning!
After a relaxing stroll through the gardens, and a couple more cocktails in the lounge, we went though for dinner in the saloon. After some hard decisions were made as to what to eat (as it all sounded amazing), we shared starters of confit salmon and the pigeon breast, both were beautifully presented and tasted great too, however nearly over shadowed by the incredible bread and marmite butter. For main we both had to have the fillet steak with dauphinoise, heritage carrots and spinach puree and I'm very glad we did because there was no way I was sharing any of it. The apple parfait was a stunning presentation, cleverly shaped as an apple and served with pistachio, again delicious.
Unfortunately due to COVID restrictions we had to return to our rooms at 10pm otherwise we would have happily enjoyed the ambience with a couple more drinks.
Breakfast in the morning was the perfect start to the day with a nice variety of options available for all.
Overall we had a fantastic getaway and will definitely be returning in the near future! Thank you to all the staff that made it such an enjoyable experience.

Dear Megan, Thank you so much for your amazing 5-star review and lovely words regarding your whole experience with us. I will be sure to pass your comments on to all the departments. I am glad that our pastry chef converted you to Macaroons and that you found the scones to be perfect. The Beatrix is a particularly lovely room and i am pleased you liked all the features. We will definitely have to see what we can do about making the beds less comfortable as we would not want anyone missing the amazing breakfast. We look forward to welcoming you again soon, hopefully when you can stay in the lounges for more cocktails. Martin

Having returned from this venue this afternoon where we attended for my 40th birthday tea party, I cannot speak highly enough about the staff and setting that is the Hawkstone Hall experience. If I could give more than 5 stars I would! The renovation and decoration has been carried out to an exquisite standard that is sympathetic to the age of the building with necessary modern and safety features discretely added. The most stunning rooms are the ballroom and saloon with incredible ceilings and original paintings. We were given a tour of the downstairs and some of the upstairs and everything was stunning with a luxurious feel. The afternoon tea, which included a beautiful array of freshly made delicacies, was absolutely delicious and enjoyed by all the adults and children alike. But the absolute highlight of the entire experience has to be the staff, who greeted us on arrival and made us feel so welcome right from the start. Nothing was too much trouble and the children were positively encouraged and in even entertained! The staff were all immaculately turned out, beaming with smiles, passionate and enthusiastic about the Hall and in providing anything we needed to make our experience as wonderful as possible. I had high expectations but even these were surpassed by what has been the most wonderful 40th birthday tea party with my family. Thank you so much to all the staff. My husband and I are already planning our next visit - this time without the entourage! - and will be highly recommending this venue to all friends, family and work colleagues. Anyone who visits will want to return again and again and we hope that as the popularity of the venue increases that they never loose that special touch.

Myself and my partner stayed for 2 nights for a getaway weekend and it did not disappoint.
From the moment you drive up the driveway, through the golf green, you’re met with the most breathtaking view of the Hall. The staff came out to greet us, took our bags and offered a glass of fizz (which was greatly received).
We stayed in a classic room which was beautifully decorated and furnished. The bathroom was equally fantastic.
We had breakfast which was superb and dinner in the Hill’s restaurant. The food was incredible.
The Hall is beautiful with different areas to sit, relax and drink, (The Library being my favourite) and is surrounded by the most stunning gardens.
The staff were all welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Considering the scale of the hotel, it was very homely.
I have booked to come back in a couple months time and cannot wait!!

We stayed in a junior suite (Keats) which would be great for you. I think "Du Maurier" is opposite and will be mirror image. Both on top floor (quiet) and close to pantry, but beyond that I am not sure.
