Detailed Reviews
We purchased a two night package, the first night was Dinner, Bed and Breakfast and a round of golf on the Hawkstone Golf Course, the second night was Dinner, Bed and Breakfast and free entry to the Follies.
The Bedroom had been refurbished in the last 3 years; it was clean and comfortable. The ensuite had modern fittings including an over bath shower all of which were in working order.
Breakfast after the first night was cooked to order due to low occupancy and this was an order of magnitude better than the buffet breakfast offered after the second night.
The three course evening meals were enjoyable and service was prompt. The restaurant appeared to have been refurbished in recent years and it was light and airy thanks to the large amount of glass. The tables were appropriately spaced; you didn’t feel crowded.
Considering the amount of rain that had fallen in previous weeks the Golf course was well maintained and although there were a couple of temporary greens in use, they did not spoil our enjoyment.
The Follies is well worth a visit, but allow at least 3 hours to do the full walk.
All the staff were friendly and helpful.

I was a bit disappointed when I arrived - the place seemed shabby and sterile, the room grey and utilitarian. There was no information in the room about anything - breakfast arrangements, WiFi, local info. However, on the plus side it was lovely and quiet, the staff were flexible (allowing me to take my meal to my room, though there was certainly no 24 hour room service, as advertised), the food was hot and tasty (though not great value at £15 for a big standard main course). And the bed was SO COMFY. That, combined with the peaceful location, meant I slept really well. And the shower was hot and powerful and easy to work.
All in all, quite pleasant and certainly clean, but probably would expect a bit more for the price.

I had a business lunch at the hotel today and although the bar/restaurant was really quiet the service was really slow. I am not sure why that would be the case. Anyway, the menu is okay and I ordered the Cesar Salad and a portion of chips. Hours later I still regret the choice, as I can still taste the food in not a good way. The food was delivered in stages and there was only three of us. My salad had way too much dressing on that it was drenched in the stuff and there was very little chicken. I would have complained at the start only we were tight for time and needed to crack on with the meeting. Though I mentioned it to the waitress at the end. The chips were also rather tasteless - they were poor quality bargain buy variety, not what I would expect from a nice hotel, as the chef should be qualified to make nice ones (triple-cooked as an idea?) and they were borderline cooked. Overall it was an average experience.

Well, I can honestly say this was a fabulous stay. From the time we checked in, everything went very well. The restaurant & bar staff were attentive, food was hot and well presented, tables cleared efficiently. The singer was lovely, just right & good choice of songs - disco, again, just right, good mix of songs to cover all tastes.
Bedroom was clean & modern with lovely voew over golf course. Breakfast, excellent hot selection & staff very attentive.
The building looks a bit shabby from the outside but the inside is great & the staff superb, well done to all of them.

Receptionist did not offer any information about the hotel during check-in.
Room was cold. Big nice looking heater but not much heat.
Nice looking electric shower however temperature did not go up nor did the power; just a bit more than drizzles and water was luke warm.
WiFi was atrocious, extremely slow and kept cutting out.
£85 per night room only rate and £12 extra for breakfast is just a joke!
I booked to stay here because I stayed here once last year and thought it was OK. But this time was not so good and I’m not sure if I will use this hotel again in future.

AVOID. The room was inadequate and did not meet the very basic of needs. We stayed in room 213.
As per some other reviews, upon arrival the room was very cold. No problem we thought, we just need to turn the radiators up. We turned the radiator up to the maximum (number 6) and the radiator simply did not heat up. I rang reception and they informed us that it takes 20 minutes to heat up. Hours went by and still no heating. I rang reception again and asked them to bring a heater up (as I noticed on another review someone who had the same problem recommended asking for a heater), they said, "we will see what house keeping can do" - but no one bothered to show up and reception did not call us back either. Terrible customer service. By this point, it was getting late, we were getting tired waiting around and we were on the verge of just giving up and going to bed.
To try and warm up a bit I decided to make a cup of tea and drink it lying in bed however the kettle wasn't working in our room. When we pressed the button to power the water up, the button lifted up by itself after 10 seconds, so I had to put my hand on the button and leave it there for the water to boil. Almost burnt my hand doing this. Hazard much?! I could have rang reception and asked for a replacement or something but after they failed to get back to me about the radiators and waiting for someone to bring a heater (that never arrived!) we really couldn't be bothered ringing them back to ask about the kettle!
The following day, we obviously woke up to a freezing room so I decided to take a bath. I am currently pregnant at the moment so not allowed to take hot baths but I am allowed to take warm baths. However, the water in the bathroom wasn't even luke warm. We left it running for over 20 minutes and nothing changed. I then tried to get the shower going but this was also cold. We simply gave up trying. It was an absolute joke. All I wanted was to have a shower or bath and the water was freezing.
After reading back on some other reviews on here, other people have had similar problems with heating/water not being warm enough and so it looks like it is certain rooms /areas of the hotel it affects. We live in an old character house so I am used to it being cold and the heating taking a while to kick in but this was just ridiculous for the money you pay for and not even the basics can be met. We paid over £130.00 for this room for one night. We honestly would have been better staying in a local Travel Lodge or Premier Inn, it would have been warm, the kettle would have worked and the water would have actually been hot!

We stayed here for a couple of nights in January and it wasn't busy but the service was spot on. Our room was a bit cold because a radiator wasn't working and when they couldn't fix that instantly they put a very effective fan heater in. The staff were all so friendly, greeting you and chatting it was really pleasant. The food in the evenings was good and a good wine and gin selection. And we left an item behind and they posted it back so we got it the next day at a very reasonable cost. When we have events in the area we will certainly stay here again.

We stayed on a Wowcher deal which included an overnight stay with breakfast, 3 course dinner and a follies trip.
The Classic Room was comfortable and dressed in a modern nature. We had nights sleep, the bed was comfy and the room temp good.
The 3 course dinner was from a set menu and the choices were very good. The breakfast was also delicious, hot and well presented.

We stayed here recently as we were attending a wedding at a nearby venue. Having not had a holiday for a while due to Covid we decided to book a superior deluxe room as a long weekend break. Upon entering our room (room 209) we heard a very loud noise coming from the radiator as if it was continuously filling. We phoned down to reception who asked maintenance to look at it while we were out having a couple of drinks. Unfortunately nothing could be done to stop the noise so we requested to change rooms. No other superior deluxe rooms were available so we were transferred to a standard room for 1 night with the promise of a superior deluxe room for the 2nd night. This issue was dealt with so well by the hotel and we were more than adequately compensated by a refund of our first night and a complimentary bottle of champagne. It’s not the things that go wrong that you remember but they was in which issues are resolved and the staff did an amazing job.
We had dinner in the hotel the first night and the food was amazing, the beef was cooked to perfection! All the staff were friendly and attentive and gave us all the information we needed on checking in.
It wasn’t the stay we wanted but we had a great weekend despite this.

We have just returned with friends from an overnight stay with 2 rounds on golf and had a wonderful break (particularly as we have not been able to do much lately due to Covid19) We had previously stayed about 5 years ago and while we enjoyed the golf the hotel was very tired. Now it is light and bright with a very contemporary feel. Due to the present situation there were not many people staying in the hotel even thought the golf course was busy. The staff where very pleasant and efficient and every precaution had been put in place to make the hotel clean and safe & the bar and waiter staff wore gloves and masks. The evening meal was a set menu with plenty of choice. You have to make your choice when you checked in (which is understandable under the circumstances as the hotel is only just picking up again after the long lock-down) but we all agreed that the quality and choice was excellent.
The golf course was in superb condition, in fact my partner has booked another stay with his golfing friends in 2 weeks time. All in all we would definitely recommend this hotel, whether you want a golfing break or just a base to explore the beautiful Shropshire countryside.

Hi,
the main hotel bar and restaurant are back open after an extensive rebuild and it looks great.
There is a large screen tv for the world cup in the Terrace bar in the golf centre.
