Hotel El Mono Feliz is in the small village of Ojochal, - the Foodie Capital of Costa Rica. We're 10 minutes from some of the most amazing beaches in the world, as well as a seemingly endless supply of adventure, birding, nature, and water activities. From zip lining to ultralights and from bird watching to whale watching - it's here for you to enjoy. Our 3 acre property consists of several types of hotel rooms and bungalows - several with private kitchens and all with private baths, , a large outdoor swimming pool, walkable gardens - and over 130 species of identified birds that frequent our haven. This hotel is perfect for people who would like to slow down, unwind, and relax at the speed of nature. Please note that due to the number of stairs and bridges we do not accept children under 6 years old.
We enjoyed our two night stay at Hotel El Mono Feliz. The property is absolutely beautiful with trees, flowers, hummingbirds, other birds, a lovely pool & a sweet yoga shala by the river. Accommodations include rooms & cabins. We were in a small room with a comfortable bed, nice sheets, good towels, including pool or beach towels. Breakfast is included & is delicious! Lisa, the hostess during our stay, was super friendly, helpful & had great suggestions as to where to go/where to eat.

Incredibly beautiful property with a variety of room types. Lovely pool and delicious breakfast included. Claire is a wonderful, personable lady who will arrange tours and restaurants. The grounds are amazing, beautiful flowers everywhere and so many gorgeous birds. One morning we were awakened by white faced monkeys in the trees around the bungalows. On that same day the local crocodile came to visit! We went on several tours and had a great time. Highly recommended.

We had a great stay at Claire’s Place. She is a great and caring host and told us all about what to do in the area. The lodge is beautifully located in the green and next to a little creek. After our whole Costa Rica trip, i can say that Claire made the best breakfast out of all the lodges we went to. Thank you! I can definitely recommend this place.

A pleasant place with a nice pool, but rooms are small (and the toilet paper roll is in an odd spot). I just stayed one night as I was on my way south. I don't think there is a lot to do close by, but there are some excellent restaurants at hand. I went to Citrus and had a phenomenal meal. I'd stay again if I was in the area.

We were passing through so stayed just one night. A gorgeous spot, the gardens are quite spectacular and the breakfast was delicious. We deliberately chose one of the more basic rooms as we were there just a short time.... had we stayed longer we would have gone for a villa and they did look fabulous. Thanks Clare and the team for your warm welcome. Highly recommended.

We were there with a group of friends on a nature tour. It was the perfect location for us. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. The grounds are a treat in themselves. And the best part was Mikey & Diana who made us feel like family & treasured friends! Will definitely return!

Just stayed here with some friends for a few days and it was an amazing experience. Mickey and Diana are the best hosts anyone could ask for. They bend over backwards to make everyone feel at home and well cared for. The place is spotlessly clean, beautiful pool, beautiful grounds and lots of fabulous birds. I would recommend it to anyone who's looking for a romantic getaway or just a place to hang out with friends or family.

My husband and I stopped at Hotel el Mono Feliz during a road trip to Drakes Bay. It was late, raining, and we knew we had to find a place to stay. Because of the good reviews, we decided to stay here. We arrived late, unannounced, with no reservation. Diana and Mickey couldn't have been more accomodating. They took us to our room with had a small kitchenette, dining table, and two very comfortable beds. The pillows felt new and the linens were soft. But the best part was the next day when Diana brought breakfast to my room! It was delicious and even included banana bread. We then had some time to spare so we checked out the grounds. People are often quick to stay at big resorts, but usually those resorts don't have mature plants or are in the best locations. Hotel el Mono Feliz has a mature garden in the back with royal palms adjacent to a river. There is a rancho where you can swing on a hammock and watch white face monkeys overhead! A cute coati even passed us by. It was so relaxing there, I took a nap. There are a few important things that make a stay average to excellent. And that is a clean room, soft bedding, and people who are just flat out nice running the place. Nothing is ever perfect when traveling, but a smiling face upon your arrival can change everything. Next time I plan another road trip, I will certainly stay there again.…

Had a very bad experience in a nearby hotel and decided to move all my family (wife and 4 kids) in the evening in the middle of a strong rainstorm. Mike and Diana were son wonderful and helpful! Experience was so good that we extended our stay. Hotel is small but due to covid it was not at full capacity and we enjoyed all the facility: cute swimming pool, nice restaurant area, the hut by the river where you can relax in a hammock is paradise....and so much more. Enjoy the smell of Ilan Ilan tree during sunset... but above all: enjoy the welcoming friendship of Mike and Diana

What a pleasant stop on our way to Drake Bay. This place is immaculate. The grounds are simply beautiful. Hosts warm and welcoming with great advice and conversation. The little cabins are beyond what I imagined. We were sorry we were staying only one night and will definitely be back. It is truly a great location and we have traveled all over Costa Rica. Plenty of unique restaurants and day trips in close proximity. The breakfast was delicious. My husband has been requesting I make avocado toast like El Mono Feliz’s ever since! We will see you again!
