Accessible 5 minutes from the station on foot.
High quality meal, very attentive service.
Pleasant bedding.
The view from the rooms is of limited interest, but is compensated by that of the roof.

The place is clearly not easy to reach, Kinosaki is best reached by direct bus from Osaka (3h), but it only runs like once or twice a day, same from Kobe. There's a direct train from Osaka too which takes 3 hours (this was our choice), but if you miss it, then you have to change like 4-6 times, travel 5 or more hours and even if it's easy and trains are punctual it makes the trip rather stressful.
However once you get to Kinosaki you can't be disappointed. It's the Japan every traveler is dreaming of: traditional architecture, ryokans and onsens, friendly people walking around in yukata (kind of light kimono used as a bath robe) and a lot of greenery; it's not a hot spring town, it's a full cultural experience.
Tsubakino ryokan is no exception from this picture. The design is traditional but including all modern features such as wifi, electronic toilets etc. The staff is very nice and helpful, the rooms (all of which are tatami rooms) and the whole place are kept impeccably clean, the food is picture perfect and fresh, the service is flawless.
The hotel has its own onsen, not big, but enough for a quick dip for a pregnant woman as myself; this is the common shower area too (no private showers, only toilets and sinks in the rooms). However if you're staying in this ryokan you get a pass for all the spas in town, which are at every corner.
Please note that there's virtually no English spoken so it may be useful to make all arrangements in advance if you don't speak Japanese.
I don't know if I would ever have the courage to make the trip again given that I don't live in Japan, but I can warmly recommend this place to anyone thirsty for a taste of traditional Japan.
"Although we enjoyed this accommodation, summer time was the wrong time to go. It's hard to enjoy hot springs when it is so hot outside! "Read full review
"No rooms have any type of view, and is in a quieter area of town, so all rooms would be reasonable."Read full review
