When we arrived in the evening, we went swimming in Lake Biwa. There were life jackets at the back of the hotel, and since there were no rules regarding their use, and they were not protected by nets, we used them. When I went to return them the next day, the guy who runs the SUP school said to me, "You used our life jackets, didn't you? When I asked him if I could use it freely, he replied, "You're not allowed to use it. The way he said it made me feel uncomfortable because he blamed me as if I was a thief. After that, when I went to the hotel to tell them that if we were not allowed to use it, they should post a sign or protect it with a net, they told me to tell the vendor directly because SUP is run differently, and the SUP operator looked a little scary, so I told the hotel staff, but they didn't understand. In the end, I was told to go directly to the vendor. In the end, the hotel staff said, "I'll let the vendor know," but there was no word about the fact that they were making it difficult for us to understand how to use the SUP activity, which made me sad. I wish they would have said something when we checked in. The cleaning staff and BBQ preparers were very nice, so I was disappointed with the front desk and the vendors who came and went. There were other small details that bothered me, and I felt that the hospitality part of the place was not good.…
Twin bed room x 3 night in Dec Pros Big rooms and facing the lake. I can see sunrise in the morning if u don’t mind to wake up early. transportation service is available for nearby locations, the staff are happy to help. subjected to staff and car availabilities. I was staying there in low season, so it was not a problem when I requested a few rides. The package I booked is a good deal, as it includes dinner and ski ticket. The staff is very nice and able to communicate in English while I want to cut the breakfast and ski pass in the last day of my stay. They can cancel the stuff I booked originally with refund. Water Pressure of shower is nice. Good for retreat. If you don’t want to dine in the hotel, there is only one curry restaurant nearby but the hotel can drive us to jr station with slightly more restaurants choice. You can have a run along the beach which is quite chill to run in that area. Regular transportation to nearby ski resort Environmental friendly hotel, u can skip the room making and get money refund(500 yen per day per person) as incentive If I will go to that area to ski again, I will consider to stay in this hotel again Cons Cannot find an email address to contact the hotel in advance. I walked fr jr station to the hotel with two big luggages, the road is a bit rough , thought there should be regular transportation can be found at the jr stations but it is not. Around 5 mins walk to reach the closest convenient store. It will be better if there is onsen. As you won’t have much to do at that area. …
When I started looking for a hotel along Lake Biwa, the cherry blossom season was already approaching, and most hotels had been already fully booked. At last, I barely managed to find and reserve a lake-view room of Okubiwako Makino Grand Park Hotel. I didn't expect much, but the hotel was just so good. The Price was reasonable. The interior of the room was woody and the wide window commanded a beautiful lake through pine trees. I felt as if I were staying in a cabin. Only if they had a hot spring!
We stayed here for 1 night in a twin room - the room was a fairly good size and had a lovely lakeside view. There was "glamping" (glamorous camping) options - unfortunately they were directly outside our room - which as not so great for privacy and disrupted the view. We had a meal in the restaurant which was very traditional japanese food - about 8 courses and lots of fish in different varieties. It was quite good, but some weird food choices too. This hotel and dinner was booked for us by a friend - so i am unsure of the pricing exactly - however a quick scout around on the internet shows a fairly standard price for the room.
We new nothing about Makino where the hotel is located but it sounded like a place we would enjoy. Our trip around central area of Honshu was fairly relaxed and we had the luxury of time to get off the usual tourist haunts. The hotel sits right on Lake Biwa and In summer this would be a bustling holiday destination. We were sharing the hotel with just a few other guests as we were between the winter and summer seasons. The hotel is a little dated in decor (lined with pine so giving a cabin feel) and needs refurbishment. The restaurant offers wonderful views over the lake.
Good view to biwa lake, good price, 1night ¥10600 w/breakfast. Drive car or bicycle can go to hotel, nearby no bus or taxi. Hotel beside beach, you can walk to beach anytime.you can book ferry ticket to 竹生島Hogonji (¥2200/pc).
Stayed here on a ridiculously low rate during my cycling adventure/tour. The room are large, especially considering Japanese standards and clean. Breakfast is buffet style and good. Western or Japanese food, it's up to you. Staff were friendly and efficient. There is a little "omiyage" (Souvenier) shop next to the reception. Although I stayed only for the night, I'd recommend this hotel if you're planning on staying around lake Biwa. It is conveniently located on this beautiful lake!
