The hotel is perfect with full on Japanese meals and rooms, Karaoke was the greatest and unfortunately we ran out of beer, but that's OK. Although I could not use the Onsen because of my tattoos (and four others of our group too). It's about time they let people with tattoos in. We walked down the road to the river...

Amazing hotel, amazing surroundings....and of course amazing food and onsen! My favorite place of our 20 day vacation in japan. There was a moment that we had 10 eagles flying above our heads near this Kumano Kodo area! Nature lovers❤️❤️❤️

The fact that I saw this as quite the reward after some hard yakka walking the komono may have influenced my rating, but this really is a fantastic hotel for some well-deserved pampering. The room is exactly as advertised - very spacious, comfortable, clean with all mod cons (I had a Japanese room) with a fabulous view which I have...

Kawasa Onsen is a neat and tidy establishment. Can get crowded in the dinning room at times but overall the food is great. The rooms are traditional Japanese, quite argue with a grand view across the river. Pick your moment when you admire the view as you may see a number of naked people.

Traditional Japanese room, very large, with 4 chairs directly overlooking the river and both outdoor onsens. Beautiful and relaxing settings ! We also enjoyed the delicious Japanese dinner. Until the last minute, we have been impressed by the outstanding service we received: we received a great farewell from its personnel, standing along the road, waving their hands at us!

We stayed two nights while hiking the Kumano Kodo. The Japanese room was large with chairs next to the window for viewing the river and forest. The futons were set out while we were at dinner. The meals themselves were good and plentiful with a mix of Japanese and western food. The indoor onsen has about a dozen washing stations...

Kawayu Onsen is a great riverside Onsen village accessible to a number of sections of the Kumano Kodo and Hongu Taisha. The trip from Kiitanabe by local bus is part of the experience. The Hotel Midoriya is the only accommodation with direct riverside access, including outdoor baths. Veronica and I chose a Japanese style room. Very comfortable with small chairs...

What is most interesting in this hotel is you can take outside hot spring with man & woman together. For woman, you do not be naked...oh, you may, off course. There is hot spring inside and you can get a special 'YUKATA' (Kimono) for hot spring out side. I met 2 European women inside and explained how you wear and...

There is not a lot of English spoken at the hotel but the staff make up for this in their willingness to please. We ( two couples) stayed for 3 nights and really enjoyed it. The evening dinner was excellent. A different meal each night. Breakfasts were reasonable ( buffet style - not great) but nice fresh fruit each day....

This ryokan was a wonderful experience, though like other similar ryokans staying with multiple individuals in a room is expensive. The view of our room was gorgeous, overlooking the crystal-clear water, where you can see little fish swimming around! Definitely feels like a pristine place to be, the outdoor onsens are wonderful and at night the sky is so clear...
