Staying in an old school invokes good expectations but it was basic, loud, rigid timings which were over the top. Good size rooms, but limited service options, excessive rigidity for timing and catering.
You get what you see here it's a bit basis but very clean and the owners really work hard so you enjoy your stay.
The food was typical Japanese style and Ryokan type sleeping which is what you would expect.

Stayed one night during my Kumano Kodo hike. Such lovely host. Meals were delicious and the packed lunch for the next day's hike was filling. Really liked the room with the sun room overlooking the river.
