Like all good snow holidays - it's dependent on the weather: Inches of snow, temperature, cloud, rain etc. All of these can sometimes boil down to luck. Fortunately we had all of these on our side. So our trip was already off to a great start. This was only enhanced further by our choice of accommodation. Cosy rooms, great location - 1 minute walk to the shuttle bus, and clean communal areas. A special thanks to T and Steve for making our trip so easy and relaxed. Unfortunately this is their last year running the lodge so can't comment on if such a high standard will be maintained.
The lodge is clean, comfortable and a great fun place to hang out, have a few beers and reflect on the awesome snow. Steve and Tennille were both lovely, a great help and really enthusiastic. Will definitely be coming back.
I thoroughly enjoyed my 6 days at Popcorn Lodge. Steve and Tenille were both such kind and fun people, always around to help, give advice and have a chat. The lodge was very clean, cozy and had a relaxed atmosphere about it. It was about 10 minutes out of the main part of Hirafu, which is actually quite cool because it encouraged me to explore a bit more and get to know greater Hirafu. The dormitory room was a nice layout and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. This was a perfect place for me to stay and I would absolutely recommend it for those looking for a slightly cheaper, yet just as enjoyable, holiday in Niseko.
First of all our hosts nicked named Mum and Dad (Tennille and Stephen) by our crew was amazing. They were so helpful, friendly and fantastic at arranging events that lodge guests could attend. We had a mulled wine evening, day trip to Rusutsu, freshly baked cookies! It was just great! We had a fantastic stay, rooms or cosy, warm and have heaps of space, plugs. Our room even had a mini bar fridge and TV (not that we used the TV). Beds was comfy and duvets was nice and warm. In the mornings there was a continental breakfast with scrambled eggs and fresh coffee to top. Most evenings you'll find some friendly guests in the lounge area by the fire having a drink or two. All civilised tho ;) Some rooms have their own bathrooms, ours didn't and we used a communal shower, even with the lodge full I had no problem finding time to have a private shower. There's washer and dryer to use for a ¥100 My pro tips, I over packed. I didn't need shampoo, body wash or towels, it's all provided. Getting to ski fields there is a bus 2min walk from the lodge, we opted to walk to the Grand Hirafu lifts most mornings (10-15min) because we wanted fresh tracks. The bus comes a little to late if you want to do that. There are a few restaurants close to lodge, Curry Soup Kitchen is amazing! Thanks again, Tennille, Stephen and Tim we had a great stay!…
This lodge is highly rated for a reason. Steve and Tennille are fantastic hosts and do an amazing job. Highly recommend for anyone looking to stay in Hirafu. The buses are frequent so no issue getting on or off the mountain and it's only about a 10min walk into main village.
Steve and Tennille were very welcoming and friendly lodge managers and from day one they made us feel at home and created a social and positive atmosphere within the lodge. The rooms are spacious and the facilities are fantastic! Breakfast was provided everyday which was always delicious and gave our days out on the slopes the kick start we needed! Steve and Tennielle were amazing lodge managers and they made our stay so positive and we will definitely be staying at Popcorn lodge for all of our future stays in Niseko!
Simple and exactly what you want in a ski lodge. Cozy with a great common area. Staff was very knowledgeable and helpful with my travel arrangements. Close to shops, restaurants, and (most importantly) the resort.
I spent 10 days at popcorn with 4 other friends in late January. Steave and Tennille were fantastic welcoming hosts willing to help out how ever they could. The rooms and common areas were always clean, the beds comfortable and cosy and the bathrooms tended to regularly. The lodge is a great place for group and solo travellers with space to all come together in the lounge down stairs. Location was a little out of main Hirafu but very easily accessible buy the shuttle busses that run frequently, or a 15 -20 minute walk. Breakfast provided was great before heading out for the day. I highly recommend popcorn to all and would happily stay here again on my next trip!
The photos of the listing of the bed covers dont look what they are now. They are hotel grade white linen! and even better.... Thanks Tenielle and Steve I had a great time. Got my snow legs and ski lessons down pat, Ill be back next year!
Had the pleasure of staying at the lodge for a week at the end of January for my 4th trip back to Niseko. Seems every time I go back I end up further out of town as things get busier, but absolutely lucked out with Popcorn lodge this time around. Location is a 20 min walk to the Gondola however right outside are bus stops that service each of the resorts so it was very easy to get around. What made this trip really stand out were the hosts Stephen & Tennille, right off the bat I felt more like I was being welcomed into a home rather than checking into a hotel. Also pretty good fun when they were happy to take myself and other guests out in the morning for some hot laps happily sharing local mountain knowledge, or out at night for a delicious meal and a few drinks. The atmosphere was great, with guests getting to know each other in the lounge area, making plans for trips on snow or out at night. I have made some friends there that will certainly be hitting the slopes with again! Rooms were clean and the facilities always available, breakfasts were spot on too. Would stay there again without any hesitation.…
