Ok, this is not a 5 star spa. It doesn't pretend to be, but if you want a lovely hot authentic local experience then go here. Tons of hot water, an indoor and outdoor tub and yes you can take a beer in. Rent towels otherwise you will wreck your own and the water is mineral rich. A great, inexpensive...

With very kind staff, and a peaceful lower village environment, we highly recommend this traditional hot spring onsen. The onsen has four baths in total, two for each gender (segregated). Our favourite time is during the Winter, as you can sit outside as it snows. Perfect for relaxation and taking a break from our busy Winter working season.

It is traditional onsen, not fancy but full off locals. Need to understand the etiquette associated with onsens, just see what the local are doing. Very reasonable, cheaper if you bring your own towel. Very hot water. A great way to finish off the day after skiing.

My very first onsen experience. The place was simple and nice. With both indoors and outdoors pool. The outdoor pool was remarkable as you get the fine snow falling on you while you are in the warm water. But they did not gave me the FULL onsen experience. As per Japan culture, its a tradition of drinking milk after onsen....

This was my first onset experience. I had read about it and was told this was one of the few that allowed people to have beer in the pool. Well this joint has a beer vending machine ! 300 yen at the door. You can rent towels for another 300 or bring your own. Many sit down showers to clean...

After a day on the slopes, there's no better way to relax than a visit to Yukoro Onsen, just walk downhill from the main traffic lights, the place should be easy to find by the plums of steam. Entry is 700 yen plus an extra 200 yen if you need a towel. There a small indoor pool by the shower...

Note- my visit was in Feb 2016. Review can't go that far back but both my excellent memory & diary can. I recommended it to a friend who is on a skiing holiday over there today & wistful nostalgia has prompted me to write retrospectively. Looks like the entry fee of ¥700 has not changed which was the cheapest in...

Follow the plumes of steam and you'll find this place at the bottom of the village. The onsen is really nice. Smaller indoor pool by the shower area and a wonderful outdoor pool surrounded by snow covered boulders. Sitting outside with a can of beer in the hot pool with snow falling and freezing on your hair is pure magic.

Right in the heart of lower Hirafu. Entry for an adult was ¥700 plus extra if you want to rent a towel. Bring a small head towel too..it was snowing when we visited. Separate bathing with a hotter indoor pool and a lovely outdoor onsen in a natural landscaped setting with snow covered boulders. The shower and change room facilities...

Whilst most of the big hotels allow non-residents to use their Onsens, none have the same character as Onsen Yukoro. Only 7 minutes walk from the main intersection in Hirafu. The water is 43° from a natural spring and is constantly replenished. Sitting outside, amid natural rock with snow falling (and freezing) on your hair is an experience not to...
