Detailed Reviews
My husband and I have stayed at the humming bird around 4 times now, its a great hotel with a great location, its close to the nicest beaches and Crown Point strip, I would advise a car for all stays in tobago but its close enough for a stroll or a taxi. The rooms and clean and perfectly fine for what you need, dont expect a 5 star hotel for a 3 star price. The beds are comfortable, the ac is great and the TV has plenty of channels WiFi has always been fine and my husband loves pauls breakfasts. We also chose to stay here for our wedding with our whole family, Paul AND Linda have always been lovely to us, Linda has cooked for my husband (when the hotel does not do evening meals) a couple of times when he has been there without me, and looked after him. The maid offered to provide lifts for our wedding guests to the beach, and little sparkle is exactly what his name says "a sparkle" we love to see him around at breakfast and give him a cuddle. Its just like staying with family. The pool and surrounding area is lovely and relaxing and well kept and clean. Overall its a good base for exploring and an enjoyable relaxing stay, I wouldn't say its only good for short stays as we have stayed for 2 weeks several times and been perfectly comfortable, compared to other hotels the humming bird is very good value for money. If you want to stay somewhere close to the night life and beaches and recieve a warm welcome from owners who have good local knowledge then this is the place for you.

I really like staying here, the owners are excellent hosts and wonderful people.
Everything is clean and organized, the breakfast is great and the location is within walking distance to Store Bay and of course the beach.
the pool is nice, very clean.
The Hotel is modest, don't go there expecting 5 star Marriot rooms, but if you want to enjoy Tobago this is a great place to stay.
This will not be my last visit, its nice to find a place you can trust will be good every time.

Very friendly owners, clean room with efficient air con. Lovely relaxing breakfast area by the pool, my personal favorites homemade muesli and porridge. Stayed for 2 weeks, highly recommended and would stay again.

Stayed at the Hummingbird 12 days[should have been 14 !! ] 22nov 2004 arrived after the worst flight EVER over 52 hours from manchester via Barbados Guyana Port of spain with BWIA airlines the WORST airline we have travelled with in over 120 flights around the world
We were pretty dishevelled when we arrived and first few days were a bit of a haze [not helped by copious amount of alchohol mind]
Our room at hummingbird was pretty basic as mentioned by previous reviews the bed squeaked which Shane changed which we thought was great most importantly it was kept spotlessly cleaned by emily
As with all the other guys we thought the family great particular mention to Joan whose SOH and staight talkin was refreshing
Good pool, nice food though we dont eat lots, good bar all in all excellent value
Hotel is ten mins from hub of nightlife in Crown Point ,Colours bar and a couple of others not bad dont go expecting much entertainment though . We were lucky the two semi finals of " scouting for talent were on best two nights fun we had
Tobago is safe relaxing and pleasant but not over blessed with things to do/see if this is what u looking for i would say stay at the hummingbird u will not be dissapointed.

Stayed for a week recently at hummingbird not much privacy room pretty small . One of the girls seemed to whinge and cry a lot and both were too intrusive for our taste although if u like kids u might not mind.
Food was average fail too see what was special about yorkshire puddings,Wish we had stayed at Bonkers up the road nice food there and looked lovely though didnt go in rooms.
Loved tobago, great beaches great locals and bonus that there were few noisy Americans.

Just returned from Tobago. Stayed at the Hummingbird for 3 nights. Had initially booked for 7. Joan and Denise are lovely, helpful ladies. Assisted with travel plans. We appreciated it.
Found the rooms to be quite stark. The beds are terrible -hard and squeaky.
Some travellers may find that they is not enough personal space as you are living in close proximity with a family. We were OK with it.
We moved to different accommodation as we wanted more comfort. If you are on a strict budget, this is a good place. If not, think about your needs and upgrade.

We have never felt like changing accomodation or cutting our holiday short until we stayed at "The Hummingbird". We had to make our own way to the hotel after a long flight but the previous owners Pete and Joan kindly offered to pick us up. To order your food you need to give 5 hours notice so we ate out most of the time. Credit where credit is due.. the food is good however you eat with thier dog staring at you waiting for a piece from your plate. We did find dog hair in the coffee cup at breakfast..must had been there for added taste. The bar is closed 95% of the time but if you have your own drink you have to drink it in your room and buy your own ice from the shop down the road as they will only give ice if you have bought a drink from them but as the bar is closed most of the time you are forced to. There must be a tiolet paper shortage as the cleaner will only replace them if she sees the empty ones. We had to ask for them all the time. The floor always felt gritty after the room had been cleaned. we would talk to friends we met and in the evening the lights would go out early as 8pm. We never felt welcome.. we never even got a "good morning". the friends we met made our holiday.. Thanks to Alan, Jan, Connie and boyfriend and to all the Sweedish. Lucky we are home now.. the hustle of work is far better than staying at the hummingbird.( to Alan... moooove).

Got in late at night, with my family, four adults, five kids, The rooms were clean, but there was no kitchen and you had to pay an additional daily fee for the use of a microwave. A few bugs were present but bug spray took care of that.
The friendliest of the staff, owners included was the family pet, Rosco, The maid attempted to discipline one of my kids after she fell on a plant, not a special plant by the way but a local wild plant. The next day the cushions from the chairs were removed from my room, and when I asked about it along with the rude comments and actions of the maid the owner was just as ridiculous with her attitude and answers, not to mention the maid found it ok to speak to me in the most disrespectful manner in front of the owner, proving that this was fine.
Overall, I felt like I was treated differently because My family is originally from the island, the other guests were not treated this way especially the ones with the same ethnicity as the owner, and this is definitely not a kid friendly establishment.

Well where do we begin!! Travelling so many miles away from home you have reservations about where you are going to and what to expect. We needn't have worried. The Hummingbird lives up to its great reviews 5 STARS all the way, from the food to their hospitilality. A small family hotel run by Joan, Peter, Shane & Denise who make you feel so welcome from the moment Shane picks you up from the Airport. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Whether you want to sight-see/tour the island or chill on the beach, they will take care of it. The food is excellent and Shane's traditional Sunday yorkshire roast is too DIE for, and not forgetting those tasty homemade cakes!! (yum yum) The Hummingbird definitely lives up to its Motto: ARRIVE AS STRANGERS, LEAVE AS FRIENDS. We will be back... WICKED, Champion.

stayed overnight from Trinidad....thank god it was just 1 night.......had read a couple reviews but i dont go by heresey....i like to experience it for myself......friendliest creature around was the dog. Talk to some other afro caribbean people & wife didnt give them the time of day
For the hours i spent there i never saw them in conversation with anyone else but the "other" guests...the owners always seem to be in laughter & conversations with the "other" guests from the bar side..... and oh..found a long black hair on the shower curtain...certainly wasnt from the dog.....
To the owners remember u have lots of competition on that street alone....try to be friendlier to all guests redardless of race..it wont hurt at all

Hi,
The linen is normally changed every 3 days.
There is sometimes a water shortage in Tobago.
So it is the policy of the Hotel not to waste water.
Thank you
Paul
