Stayed at Tara Hotel for a week end of September, booked with Jet2Holidays. Jet2 seamlessly picked us up from dubrnovik airport and dropped us at the hotel approx 1.5 hours drive on the bus. The receptionist on arrival was quite rude and demanded our passports to keep for checkin processes and told us we could not have them back till later. A few hours later I had to demand our passports back before dinner, firstly because I wanted to keep my own passport safe and secondly because we wanted we needed them for daytrips to nearby countries, which resulted in an argument with reception to receive them back. The next issue was the excursion desk, were told by a very rude lady, not to book the excursions we wanted, too far, too long day or not very nice. Only took cash not card. It was like she could not be bothered to sell them to us! Instead I booked directly through the excursion company themselves online, which was quick and painless. The trips to Bosnia, dubrnovik, lake, Tara bridge, kotor bay were fantastic even though were were the only English on the trips, but the guide spoke to us separately! Don’t waste your time speaking to the excursion desk! The hotel villa was adequate and cleaned daily with aircon. Breakfast and dinner included half board. Local wine was included free. 99% of the hotel was Russian or German and did not know how to queue, skipping lines which was annoying. Food was average mixture of limited meat and fish dishes, quite repetitive over the following days, breakfast was better than dinner! The hotel has a small pool, beach within 2 mins walk. Also lovely walk along the beach to the old small becici which is worth the walk one evening. Overall, loved the sightseeing, but would not return or recommend this hotel

We stayed here for a week as a couple on a Saga twin centre holiday. Unfortunately our room had no sun at any point during the day which made it dull and dark, no balcony to sit on either. Not much space to move around the room and only one small drawer, no bedside table on one side and the lights unreachable from laying in bed. Only one socket which was underneath the dressing table. On the plus side the en suite was roomy with a shower, clean towels every day but not of the best quality. Bedding also of poor quality. Dining area needs to be reorganised, a small food section for the amount of customers and seriously needs someone in charge to maintain tables being relaid etc. Food was never hot enough, salads were uninspiring and desserts always the same. The pool area was lovely and the beach bar, towels only 50 cents for the day. As Saga guests we had free use of umbrella and loungers. The area around the hotel was disappointing, a couple of small shops selling drinks and crisps and a pharmacy. A 35-40 minute walk along the beachfront took you to the walled town of Budva which was more interesting. The Saga rep and the Saga bar staff were very helpful and did a good job organising different daily events and trips out. But we will not be returning to Montenegro.

First the good points. Our room was good. We were at the back with a nice view of the sea and distant mountains, and we had a good sized balcony. The pool area is also sunny and pleasant. The single worst feature of the hotel is the dining room. The buffet area is less than half the size it needs to be and most of the hotel customers seem to be Russians who have a very different culture when it comes to queuing. The result is chaos. Also the food itself is not up to much. We were all inclusive but if you have to stay here then B and B is a better option. The other very disappointing discovery is Becici itself. It is described in Lonely Planet as "the Benidorm of Montenegro" but that is a little unfair to Benidorm! There is nothing attractive about the place and it should only be looked on as a base from which see the lovely places around it.

The hotel is very clean and light, the rooms are a nice size with a walk in shower. The pool and pool bar area also has a grassed area where you can sit. The hotel is a short walk to the beach (around 80m). All the staff are very polite and always willing to help. This was our 2nd stay at this hotel and would be happy to go back again.

Don't forget - Hotel Tara is NOT BRITISH 4 star - it is MONTENEGRIN 4 star and there is definitely a difference. There are NO tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms. There is only 1 electrical socket you can use in each room, but you can get an extension from reception. We were fortunate in being in the hotel annex and on the ground floor which meant we had a balcony. A lot of rooms have no balcony at all or a very, very small one which looked as if it couldn't accommodate a chair. Having said that the room was clean and towels were changed daily regardless. The dining room needs organizing, as there are 2 pinch points. At breakfast there were large queues waiting for fresh omelettes with the chef mixing 2 eggs for each person as the approached rather than having a batch of pre-beaten eggs already prepared and ready to pour into the frying pan. For evening meal it was a similar thing with guest being funneled into 2 lines (though be prepared for people queue jumping) - depending on your requirement - and when we went we were out of the main season. Hotel Tara is a nice hotel. It is very well located for local supermarkets and within walking distance of Budva. Regarding the staff - we've always found if you treat the staff well they will look after you - and they certainly did.
