We were doing the Coast 2 Coast walk and were delighted to find that they offered a drying room! First one offered yet. All the wet clothes and boots were comfortably dry by morning. Dinner was fine and service pretty prompt.

We stopped here for an evening meal during a coast to coast walk. Although arrived later than expected, the chef stayed on to cook us a great vegan (sometimes difficult to find) evening meal. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The inn which is also a hotel, was atmospheric and felt quirky in a really positive way. I had a... More

Stayed here on our Coast to Coast route, our party arrived at different times-- the first got offered a 'drying' room and the second did not. There was a provision of newspaper which was a good idea although our boots were a little abandoned in the lobby. The room was spacious s although the bathroom a little small. The room... More

We turned up here wet and exhausted after enduring some fairly grim weather on the Coast to Coast walk – and what a great place. Busy pub full of walkers (and others) with good beer and food. Our room was excellent with a big bath, which was very welcome. Friendly landlady and staff – certainly worth a visit.

I booked a 2 night weekend break as a convenient stop off on our way to Ayr racecourse. From previous reviews we were expecting a quite, relaxing stay with good food but were disappointed. On arrival we were booked in by the only member of staff, a lady serving at the bar. As orders for evening meal finished half an... More

There was a mix up with the rooms and when tried to sort the problem the landlady was so rude and unhelpful. Breakfast was between 8-9am but at 8.30 started clearing everything away and when we said we hadn't finished she pointed out how busy they day was, just not enough staff on. Would never stay here again.

This was our third visit - on all three occasions for an overnight stay on mountain biking trips but I would happily stay here for a romantic weekend- if that was ever likely! We always have the same room which is huge, away from the church bells and with a great bathroom with bath and lashings of hot water and... More

We stopped at the Crown & Mitre to break up an otherwise long section of the Coast to Coast walk. It was a wonderful choice as we found the Inn to be comfortable with good food both at dinner and breakfast. The innkeeper (an avid outdoorwoman) was a delight.

After a full day of unremitting rain, it was great to arrive at the Crown & Mitre. All our wet gear went to the drying room to emerge dry the next morning. Rooms were comfortable and heated - very welcome as the temperature was cool for June. Beds were comfortable and towels plentiful. The pub was full of C2Cers so... More

We arrived late after a long hot days walking, only to be advised there had been a problem with the rooms as we'd booked two twin rooms. However, an alternate solution was provided, and we ended up with one twin and two singles, so the problem was dealt with in an efficient and helpful manner. We enjoyed a great dinner,... More
