Our stay was called historical, not only for the building but also for the reception ( no WIFI code given), no electronic key bur a heavy key in your pocket, heavy blankets ans an old bathroom. The food and drinks were excellent.
From the moment I arrived in that beautiful walled and cobbled cuidad, I knew the hotel in the castillo would be a memorable occasion. The location, the history, facilities and staff were all magnificent as was the accommodation and the restaurant. My thanks to all for making my artistic and photographic holiday something I will never forget.
The hotel is built on a castle in the very center of Ciudad Rodrigo. The architecture is very nice. The common spaces are also great. The rooms are just average with old furniture. There are some places for parking. Very convenient to visit the region. A negative point: Wi-fi. Although the site of the hotel announces Wi-Fi everywhere ... it simply does not work in the rooms!!! In fact, it only works in a a spot near the cafeteria. This is absolutely unacceptable for a 4 star hotel (and high price). In fact, from my experience with several other "paradores" in Spain, this seems to be a general problem of paradores. The management simply does not care. If it was a matter of "philosophy" of not having technology in a "historic place", it could be understood. But the hotel announces Wi-Fi!!! and the rooms also have TVs, etc. So, it is not a matter of "philosophy" --- it is simply very bad service. It was funny to see early in the mornings several people coming to the spot near the caeteria with their laptops to access Internet ... obviously it was not only a problem of my room. Such mistakes of the management create a bad feeling that otherwise would have been perfect.…
We travelled through time to Ciudad Rodrigo and its Parador. This castle was a great choice to stay in peace and tranquility, but in the middle of the City. The room was fantastic, as so was the restaurant's vies and the food, the sunset from the gardens overlooking the river spectacular We stayed with our dog, which went fine. The staff were super helpful and professional, approachable and capable of sorting out quickly anything.
Stunning setting in an old castle that has been converted into an atmospheric hotel appreciating the old. Friendly and professional service experience: During Covid, the safety of customers and staff has been handled in an exemplary and professional manner.
