I stayed at this hotel for the first time in February 2020 and liked it so much that I went back. However, I doubt I will return. The hotel has all the potential for a great experience, but has some major drawbacks: 1) There is NOBODY at reception from the time they finish their afternoon shift (don’t know the exact time, but perhaps around 6pm) until EIGHT-THIRTY the following morning!! They give you a number you can call out of hours, but warn you not to call unless it is a dire emergency - so if, for example, you don’t have enough shampoo (they only left one TINY bottle for two adults) and you have to leave early the following morning (as was our case), you’re completely out of luck. 2) The lady who mans the restaurant is always very gruff and bad-tempered and her command of English is not great, so the overall restaurant experience leaves a lot to be desired. They really need to address these two issues if they want to attract repeat customers.

Response from Nicole Florizoone, Eigenaar at Ara Dune Hotel
Responded 31 Jul 2020
Dear Mister Seymour, the reception is always open from 8 am to 8 pm. after that, there is indeed an emergency number if something is needed. But you call the emergency service (callcenter) at night to have a shampoo brought to your room, while you have luxury bottles of 50 ml in the room? If you think you need to use these services in a hotel, we advise you to go to a 5 star hotel and not a 3 star one. So you'll be much happier. Our restaurant is staffed only by men and not by women, except for breakfast in the morning where there is a lady present for 2 hours. May be you dit not like her, that 's possible. We're very sorry that you didn't like this at all. You weren't in a good mood when you checked in with us. The reception ladies were impressed.

Hotel situated near the Belgian-French border ; a quater of an hour by car to travel to the Belgian coast. Hotel very agreeable and extremely clean. Confortable room well furnished for its category. Buffet breakfast with efficient Covid protection. Some traffic noise over day but very calm at night.

This was the final stay of our tour before catching ferry from Dunkirk. We had been unable to find anything on French side that met same quality and value. The picture makes you think it might be close to sea but it isn’t , and you need a car here. Great welcome on arrival, very clean room, loved the picture of the dunes behind the bed. A hotel with lots of kitsch! Good to have a lounge. Kids room too if you are travelling with kids. Comfortable bed, pillows not very substantial and light duvet but room was too warm, good shower, kettle in room. Bit noisy because we were on road side but traffic dies down. We ate in Brasserie, it was good. We paid extra for breakfast which was sufficient, good choices but not exciting. Easy trip to port after checkout.

Lovely hotel, very easy to locate around 30 mins drive from the ferry port in Dunkirk. The room was extremely clean and well made up with useful toiletries - and the bonus of a shower mitt which was a very welcome, but rare addition. Decent shower with plenty of hot water. We had a superb meal in the attached bistro. On checking out, the owner gave us a small, wrapped gift which was a nice touch. Slight negatives - The pillows weren't great, more like cushions than pillows. I also discovered that the memory foam mattress topper whilst being very comfortable, makes the bed incredibly hot. We had a little trouble checking in as we were giving the wrong number for our lock-box (available for late check-ins), thankfully someone came from the restaurant and was able to help us. All in all, this was a fabulous boutique style hotel at a decent price.

This hotel is a high class of the beaten track on our arrival we were given a guided tour of the hotel and it amenities by a very friendly staff member the room was very clean. The only thing that could of been better was the outside it looked at first very clean but there was over 10 cat’s that lived at the front of the hotel and you could smell the cat pee from the tomcat that laid in the front doors. I would stay there again as price was very responsible for what you got.

We found this lovely boutique hotel by accident. It is really close to the coast on the France/Belgium border. Originally we were going to stay for two nights then move on but found it so lovely we stayed for four. The staff were welcoming and friendly. They could not be more helpful. Great room, clean and well supplied with everything we needed.

Lovely little hotel, extremely well looked after. Beautiful room (deluxe). On arrival we were taken around a tour of the hotel to show us the facilities. A roof terrace perfect for sun worshipers with sun beds, chairs, etc. On the ground floor a cosy relaxation room with loads of info on the area around, a kids play room and the very nice restaurant / bar. The hotel is maybe a little out of the way if you want to go into town, you will have to either take the car or take the bus. If you want to get to the beach count more or less 20 minutes of very pleasant walk through the dunes. If you like to stay somewhere quiet, a bit off the beaten track in a lovely hotel, this place is definitely to be recommended, and in my opinion worth far more than its 3 stars.

Location - we were there for Plopsaland. It's about 6 minutes drive door to door, very convenient. Peaceful location. Short drive to the beaches too. Facilities - boutique, beautiful and homey decor. Fresh flowers are everywhere. We had 2 connected rooms for family of 4, one with shower one with bath, both have air-conditioning. Rooms are spacious and clean, beds are comfy. Indoor playroom is very much appreciated for families travelling with little kids. They can play there while the parents enjoy their food and drinks in the restaurant. The boutique shop within the hotel also sells beautiful merchandise. Extra touches - we told the hotel that we would arrive at 10am to drop off the luggage first (normal check-in time is 3pm), upon arrival we were informed that the rooms have already been prepared for us! Welcome present is lovely, both kids also received plush toys and lollies, which they loved. Fresh apples in the rooms; good food in the restaurant; buttery and flaky croissants for breakfast, they also made fried egg for the kids upon request; nice dune view from the terrace... Breakfast somehow went simpler compared to our last visit. This was our 3rd visit, and will definitely be back again!
