Leasowe Castle was originally built in 1593 by Ferdinand, 5th Earl of Derby, second heir to the English throne. Named "New Hall", it consisted only of an octagonal tower. The door was about six feet above ground level, for security and protection from high tides; the walls were one metre thick. After the death of Sir Edward the Castle passed through several members of the family until it became Leasowe Castle Hotel in 1891. It was bought by the trustees of the railway Convalescence Homes in 1910 and except for a short time during the First World War, when it accommodated German prisoners, it was occupied by a Matron, Assistant Matron, Head Gardener, Maintenance Engineer and various catering and domestic staff until to 1970. It again stood derelict as it had some 300 years before; a 20th Century Mock Beggar until in 1982 when it was purchased by a local businessman and restored as one of the finest hotels in Wirral and a conference centre. The Castle is now owned by a private business man who has plans to continue to invest in the venue and a full refurbishment programme is planned that is in keeping with its great history and character.

Disappointing stay. Booking was well managed from Michelle. Rooms were small, shower cubicle was even smaller, was hardly enough room to move in it. Food was bar meals only with a poor menu selection and poor meals delivered. We were promised restaurant would be open on the 2nd night of out stay but it wasn't. Full English breakfast was the only positive from the stay which was decent on both mornings.

Hotel's Favourite
We booked an overnight stay to go to a friend's wedding reception. We arrived around 2.30 and checked in. Staff on reception were lovely and advised us of restaurant times a breakfast arrangements and when we advised them we were attending the reception they gave us all details as to where it was being held and times. We were in room 12, overlooking the golf course and sea view. It was beautifully clean and tidy and very fresh. Bed was so comfy and towels soft and massive. Lovely biscuits and fresh bottled water was on refreshments tray. We had a walk along the beach and through the woods. It was really a beautiful setting. The reception was great fun and all staff were so friendly and cheerful. Buffet food was tasty and well presented. The restaurant was really busy while we were there at the reception but the hotel didn't seem overly noisy or crowded. We loved the whole atmosphere of the hotel and the design and cosy feel. We had a really good nights sleep and after showering took our coffee downstairs to the lounge. Really nice to be able to do this as again the staff we met were really cheery and lovely. We really recommend this hotel. Its a little gem. We are going to book ourselves another night away here as we enjoyed it so much.

Being a local we have loved and used the Castle for a lot of years. It started to go downhill in the last few years but it has new owners and even after the awful reviews we wanted to support our local business and booked in for dinner. Bad mistake! When we arrived there was music blasting out and we thought there was a function on but couldn't see any cars or people....never the less in we went. There was us and one other couple and we ordered the roast dinners. The meat, potatoes and yorkshire pudding was fine but the veg dishes were cool! For dessert there was only one portion of sticky toffee pudding left. I had that one but on arrival it didn't taste like sticky toffee and was sooo sugary that it was inedible so I sent it back. As for the music....there was a lady in the other, empty, bar that had free rein of a karaoke machine and screamed into it for the whole time that we were there. Even though we got up and shut the restaurant doors, she could still be heard. Sadly not a great atmosphere and won't be trying again any time soon. The reception staff and waiter/barman I can't fault, they were lovely....

We visited today as we are interested in having our wedding here, purely because we have seen others get married here and it is STUNNING! Met with wedding planner Jamie who was so helpful and answered every question we had! There was a minor issue with our room when checking in and the desk staff could not apologise enough as we had to wait a short while, they gave us complimentary food and drinks (which were delicious) and even a Happy birthday cake board for my birthday. Room at the lodge was beautiful. We went back over for a meal and drinks, server Estelle was amazing, so friendly and attentive, she created a lovely atmosphere. Rooms clean and modern, short walk from leasowe water front. Can’t fault it!

We booked a Christmas meal for 15 people so we could catch up with all our family for Christmas we don't live on the Wirral anymore. We were extremely upset afterwards to find out that a few days before they had been given a 0 food hygiene rating, yes ZERO...We eat there with all our family. Why on earth they wouldn't immediately cancel all bookings on receiving such a rating is beyond, the zero rating sticker was definitely not displayed on the entrance as it should have been which we have already complained to the cancel about, we have photographs taken that night outside the main entrance and nowhere is there a rating displayed. The venue itself is very run down and neglected, bar is like a 1960's social club, no atmosphere whatsoever. Food was dry and tasteless and seemed like it had been sat for some time before being served. Drinks very overpriced. We had a room booked for a couple of our guests which they were disappointed with too. All in all it was an embarrassing experience for us and we definitely won't be returning.

Sir, obviously you and all your relatives ate the food - seems you're not dead if you have so much to blab about ...and you don't get it - it's a historic castle with an amazing history linked to the highest levels of English Royalty. None of that matters to you or are you so ignorant - and a hater ... But so that you know - the inspection was carried out on 12 December 2022 and by 15 December all the requirements had been completed. You can do a check on the Food Standards Agency website to see the updated report. And a reinspection for the rating has been paid for and awaiting when the next inspection will be. Oh the sticker – well that never arrived until after the report was issued on 17 January 2023. Might have something to do with the parlous state of government administrations now days. You ‘d been fed by then – how was it to be known.? There was no reason to cancel or stop operating, all clear given on 15 December. Nothing wrong with the food – the new Chef, management and staff – get over it move on … It's only the report came out later in January based on the 12 December inspection not the 15 December completion of works. Good damn of publicity we got out of that – thank you very much. There are no ongoing issues with the food and nor where you served poison. And if you knew your history better you would know that the 5th Earl of Derby who built the original tower of the castle was poisoned in 1596 just before he was to be crowned King of England ...how about that for some notoriety! The Tower of Earl Ferdinando Stanley still stands proud after 420 years. 1960s indeed … bah humbug – so basic and ordinary, so unworthy a comment of a true English institution. The Star Chamber inside the Castle alone is unmatched for its historical worth.

When we arrived I though this is going to be lovely as the building itself is stunning (from the outside). Inside we were taken to a room that looked like a hut with a bar ok fine. Family members were at the bar for 35 mins trying to get served. Draft had gone off waited to be fixed. Asked for amaretto git none. Asked for cider. Got none. Asked for pink gin. Got none awful. We were seated and almost an hour later we had still not had our starter. No atmosphere I felt like I was in an old people’s home the room was not nice. After several times of asking for our starter it came food was nice but when it came to the desert I’d pre ordered back in October we were told they had ran out. Sorry but for the price your charging you certainly need to up your game. It’s day light robbery. I’ll never ever go here again.

The room was small, the bed hard, the shower small but clean and tidy. Reception was very poor coming across as disinterested on both check in and check out. Checked consisted of - Room number? , Name? , and Thank you without anything else being said and no friendliness or smile or service of any type. We were appalled by this and would not return for this alone. Breakfast was poor with 5 staff coming and going from kitchen ( only 2 of them looked they worked in the restaurant). They were snacking and our food was not freshly prepared and was then delivered to the table by the maintenance man in his paint covered workwear?? At least he was friendly. There was only 1 other guest to be seen. Disorganised and disinterested. Shame a beautiful venue albeit the room was not good value for money given how cramped and small it was.

We stayed two nights for the World Gymnastics. Restaurant was fine, food great, service despite very young staff excellent. First night front of house very helpful. BUT this is supposedly a 4 star hotel and room equates to a best a 2. Towels dirty, bathroom dirty and dilapidated. First night no shower gel. Second night toiletries not stocked up and hairdryer that blew up on the first night not replaced, no bath mat. Went to front desk to request these items. Yes I could’ve lived without them but then don’t advertise this as a 4 star hotel if basics not provided. Different reception team to first night. Instead of just giving me the items I’d requested actually pushed her way into the room and demanded to see what toiletries and towels I had!!! Made me threatened and have to justify why I’d wanted the items. Very rude and made me feel like I was asking for the earth!! Never coming back and would not recommend to anyone. All it takes is a bit of customer service like the young people in the restaurant and I wouldn’t have written this poor review. If I’d read the reviews on here I wouldn’t have stayed either so learnt my lesson.
