I loved this charming hotel. For me it was everything a hotel should be: welcoming and relaxing with helpful smiling staff, a spacious room and a decent shower. Oh, and excellent food too, not your usual pub grub. I stayed there with my dog (Alfie the Norfolk Terrier) for two nights, stopping off on our trip up to Yorkshire. Impressions...

This place is really reasonably priced, breakfast was really lovely and the service throughout was friendly and quick. However, this place is advertised as a boutique hotel, it is trying, but falls short. The decor is certainly not the definition of boutique, the sheets felt really worn and the bathroom smelled as though it hadn't been cleaned - to the...

What a wonderful two night stay myself and my partner had. We recieved such a warm welcome on arrival and felt quite at home immediately. The hotel was exceptionally clean and well presented, and our room was beautiful (room 8). The hotel was quiet enough that we were undisturbed and able to relax but enough atmosphere for it to be...

We were lucky to have a room with a view over the valley. The newly decorated bedroom was just right with a generous bathroom and good bed with all the facilities. Our three night stay would have been longer if we had not been moving on. The lounge facilities and bar are good too. Not a cheap option however.

Stayed for one night with my dog for a couple of days walking and a relaxing break. Couldn't fault anything, staff very friendly and accommodating. My little dog was welcomed into the hotel no problem. Food was excellent, I ate in the bar that evening and I loved the Derbyshire oatcakes at breakfast! I was even given some printouts of...

We stayed for 2 nights in room 6 for a weekend break. The room was large, clean and comfortable with excellent views over the gardens and valley. The bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet. We had a complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate with biscuits and bottled water. We had a Winter Break package so 3 course...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Peak District hotel and restaurant, The Maynard, was refurbished in March 2008 to become one of the best independent hotels in the Peak District. The building dates back over 100 years and during the refurbishment we have tried to respect this heritage whilst at the same time bringing the accommodation up to 21st century contemporary standards. The Peak District views from the garden, restaurant and bedrooms are stunning, and may leave you wondering if you’re miles from civilisation. Fortunately, as well as benefiting from a beautiful and tranquil location, The Maynard is very well located for visitor's from the outside world; The Maynard is less than 15 minutes from Sheffield by train (you can hop off at Grindleford station a couple of hundred yards from our door), and within easy reach of the M1, A57 Snake Pass and A61 by car. ... more   less
