Nice place, a public kitchen if you want to pack your own food. Many levels of terraces, all with a view, for you and your family to park your stuff on. If you want to get an early start or a late stay, rent a room and enjoy it without public guest in the morning and evening.
We didn't stay at the Money Hut hostel overnight but took a taxi from Granada out to Laguna de Apoyo, and followed the recommendations of other travelers to spend the day at the Money Hut enjoying their beach access. The Laguna itself is incredible. A gorgeous body of water that is warm and massive, with limited development along the beach front making it feel more remote. The Money Hut was affordable for day access, and they had a bar and restaurant available with overpriced decent food and cold Tona's. We had access to the beach chairs, hammocks, kayaks, inner tubes, and they is a floating dock to swim out to. The weather was warm that day, but there were a lot of waves bringing in a large amount of trash onto the beach. There also appeared to be a trail that you could take for additional exploring but we didn't do this. When we were ready to go back to Granda the staff at the Monkey Hut called us a taxi. Overall it was a great afternoon at the Laguna!…
Lake is gorgeous! Get to use the kayaks for free but the food is overpriced and tasteless. Staff is nice and rooms are clean but no maid service. We stayed for 3 days and really liked it and recommend it.
If you enjoy a huge amount of “Rules” and please don’t do etc etc .... stay here ! In our room alone there are 4 plaques/posters of lists of things not to do ? Never ever have I stayed where the rules were so strict, very odd! Last time I stayed here 5 years ago Monkey Hut was the best place to stay with BETTER food nice staff and a dock on the water you could run off and jump ! Things have changed dramatically !!!!! New ownership I’m assuming and it’s not fun at all ! Last night I tried to get a soda from the bar at 9:22 pm ... oops they close at 9 ??? For a simple soda? When I’m paying 60$/night with No air conditioning, no room cleaning , small rooms , no fridge , no pressure in the shower , a toilet I have had to get serviced twice so far... really not impressed !!! The Girl down at the Bar is Super Rude ! Had issues with her every day with attitude ! She must not be very happy ! GO TO PARIDISO!!! We have been there every day for food and drinks and atmosphere, haven’t even stayed at monkey hut one day for the day only to sleep Not impressed Needs help S.T.A.T!!!!!! …
We have enjoyed very much staying at the Monkeyhut. The service from the staff is as if this place is a 5star resort. Although they position themselves as a hostel. The manager helped us arranging a sim card by sending the hotel driver to get it for us and even advanced te first charge for us. They have a beautiful place at the lake. The only remark we have is that the bar and restaurant closes too early which makes a long evening with late diner impossible. Although the place is perfect for that. For the rest: go!
We spent the morning and early afternoon at the Monkey Hut to go swimming, have a beer/cocktail, and some food. The reception is very polite, and the person serving us spoke very good English (which is helpful). The staffe were nice. The beach is small, but pleasant. There are kayaks, inner tubes, a floating dock, deck chairs and tables. The drinks were nice, but the food items we chose were pretty average fare. We enjoyed our visit and the time we spent here. The laguna is beautiful and decently clean. I'd give this 3.5 stars, but can't, so I'm giving it 3.
My wife and I stayed in the bungalow, suitable for a family with kids or just two couples. It is in the center of the action, so not so quiet during the day, but it calms down at night. The food is amazing, from pizzas, to local foods and some american. Locals come during the day, just to enjoy the spot, so it can get crowded. With the bungalow, you get your own table, chairs and hammock (though each of them is rather uncomfortable). The staff is very nice, the view is stunning and you can get small kayaks to explore the lagoon if you want. Only downside is that it's isolated, so for excursions it's not the best. The reception will book transport for you, but not activities through third parties.
Absolutely loved my stay here. I got the private Iguana room and it was very cosy, wooden, beautiful views, nice big private balcony with hammock and chairs. It was beautiful! Staff were helpful. The lake itself was stunning and warm, hotel provides kayaks and tubes to float about in. Food was standard. Had one of the best Margherita’s to drink though! Loved my stay here.
The Monkey Hut was my first stop after flying in from Atlanta and an after-dark arrival. As this is my first time travelling as a solo female in Central America, I was a little bit scared about arriving in Managua. The Monkey Hut staff were fantastic communicating with me in the leadup to my trip, and even emailed me a photo of my LOVELY driver Carlos, who picked me up with a sign with my name on it from the airport. He brought his wife along for the ride as well, and she was very sweet, and they were both really accommodating with my terrible Spanish. It is $40 to get from Managua to Monkey Hut, but the peace of mind was worth it. Plus Carlos is a great driver and also took me to see the volcano and on to Granada. The location itself was stunning, the water is warm and the scenery is just breathtaking. I met lots of interesting guests at the monkey hut and enjoyed cold beer at the bar. This hostel is worth it for sure.…
Went to monkey hut yesterday with a friend and had a really dissatisfying experience. I've been several times before but yesterday was bad. It started off ok until we decided to buy some nachos. We saw a promotion on the board in front of the restaurant for 2x1 nachos and we decided to try them out. The waiter brought the bill and said it was full price. When we questioned it, he said the promotion was no longer valid and we should have specifically mentioned it and he would have told us it was no longer available. But he had saw us reading the board right in front of him seconds before we ordered. We ate and paid because we felt we had no choice but then talked with the staff upfront who were nothing but friendly. The waiter from the restaurant later came over and offered for us to only pay a portion of the second nachos. After telling him we were still unsatisfied with his offer, he agreed to make us pay a smaller portion but still more than we wanted. Later on, we went to get dinner elsewhere because we wanted to avoid that place and we were locked out upon returning at 7:45pm. We waited several minutes yelling "hola" to try and signal some guard to let us in. After no one helped us, we had to walk through the hostel next door and around the beach to get back up to our room. Let's just say we slept and left promptly in the morning.…
