This place is beautiful, the rooms are just amazing and clean. The staff is super kind and ready to help you with everything. The only thing I was not completely agree with, was the prices of the food. It is just expensive. a order of 2 pancakes was $11. Overall, this place is just amazing.
Read all the other reviews: Don’t go here until they improve their policies, prices, services and method of business. There is clearly a negative pattern. Stay in a nearby guest house or AirBnB, and day-use only, if you must. The price of a boring tiny breakfast is ridiculous, although it does come with day-use if you want it. What angered me is that they charged $1.50 for coffee and $5.50 (!!) for juice. The menu clearly says “Todos los desayaunos van acompanados de café, te o refresco.” (Breakfast includes drinks). See photo. I asked the waiter, he said that is for guests only (wrong). So I asked the cashier, and she said drinks are included. I clarified that we did not order an “upgrade.” The debate went on, they didn’t offer my money back, she gave me a free bottle of water. The point is not the price -- it is the principle. On principle, the management needs to review all these negative complaints and address them with better staff training, disclosure, and policies. Note, we have also stayed in the hotel previously with lackluster results. This was my third and final visit. Unfortunately, the customer is always wrong here.…
We have been to this place a couple of times for the day to jump off the dock and to have some lunch. Found by accident, just kept driving until this place caught our attention. From the 1st time a month ago to now they have been cleaning up the docks, waterfront and the overgrown areas. Wasn't sure if we would go back but this trip was better. Yes, you have to buy some food or drinks if you don't stay there and only visit, but that allows for upkeep. Food was prepared well with no complaints. Jumping off the docks is fun, if you are looking for a beach go to the ocean or another place, this is right on the water.
I cannot believe this place is still listed in the lonely planet, it needs to be taken out immediately. Yes, the location is nice, but so is the location of every other hotel by the laguna, and the management here is disastrous. It started horribly with them, including the abuela, refusing to give us the cabaña we had booked and paid for through a booking site, insisting we PAY for an upgrade, with the abuela standing in the reception shouting “only 20 dollars more!!” No one speaks English. We should have left, but were worried that we wouldn’t get a refund as we had already paid half through the online booking. Only after threatening to leave, we got our cabaña. The cabaña was nice, but the bed was old, hard and went up on the sides and down in the middle. There are lots of strange abuela figurines, nips and statues all around the area and cabañas, and long roots hanging down from the ceiling in the restaurant/reception area, so unless you are 90 centimeters short, you will be sweeping through them each step you take. All the equipment is old and worn/broken. It is not good for kids as the laguna floor and waters edge are very rocky, and the laguna has too big waves for kids (and almost adults) to swim. Hence the kids pool, which is just a plastic structure on the rocks. Food is ridiculously overpriced: the breakfast included in your room fee is only for adults, and you order it from a menu. It’s the same as everywhere else in Nicaragua, your choice of breakfast with fruits and a drink, but while the normal price is 100 cordobas, here it’s 9 dollars, three times the price! We ordered pancakes and omelet, the pancakes were raw in the centre and the bread accompanying the omelet was moldy. When we complained, the waited examined the piece of toast I showed him and asked if it was just that slice, then picked up slice by slice from our plate before he took them back to the kitchen. Breakfast is supposed to be from 8-10, but nothing happened before 845. they did not have any fresh juice OR canned juices/soft drinks, which means the only thing your child can drink is their smoothies that cost $5.50 + the tips they add to your bill. But Daniel who served us overpriced dinner was lovely! However, we will ask the booking engine we used to remove this place, we very much regret spending our money here and left as soon as we could. …
I've been here a few times for lunch and to hang out by the lake. Pros: no entry fee, you just need to spend a minimum amount at the restaurant, great docs for jumping off. Cons: food is a little overpriced, but decent, kayak rental is pricey.
We loved the little cabin and it was very clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Assisted us with getting transportation to Masaya. Well kept grounds, free Wifi in the reception area. The food at the restaurant was not great and overpriced, breakfast was good. We ordered a club sandwich and fries for lunch. The fries cost $4.00 and it was just a tiny little bowl. The club sandwich had a little chicken between 2 slices of toast. We took a walk the next day to some of the other places and eat at the hostal. This is a nice place for a 2 night stay.
Last Saturday I went with my boyfriend to enjoy the beauty of this place in the lagoon but the attention we received from La Abuela was unpleasant. We tried to take some pictures and she was stuck telling us to get away from the pier. After lunch we sat down to play cards and came to ask if we had eaten because otherwise you can not sit and finally told us that we should change tables when there were many empty spaces. I do not know why she was so rude to us. I do not recommend this place. even the food is worth it. We chose this place because We liked it a lot but We do not return. among so many options I prefer another place to endure again the dismal attention of this Mrs.
This was a stunning lodge with stunning views of the crater. A lot of steep steps to climb and not the anyone needing assistance walking. The food was not very good and the service slow. Groups of day trippers visit the hotel each day to keep the hotel functioning, which is understandable in today's economy. Well worth the trip and experience of seeing this volcano. Room was comfortable and clean but once again no hot water in many of the budget hotels but I would not consider this Lodge a Budget hotel. Staff friendly but slow.
After one hour waiting for my lunch I found out that my order was not through... not even the drink! The location is great but so is from the many other waterfront lodges... The place seems overloaded by day visitors which collapses the hotel staff... so for those paying for the overpriced cabanas there is not much value... even the easy chairs on the water front are taken by te day trippers Better to come for the day and pay $6 at the entrance. Internet does not work either
The inn is in a lovely garden. The old cottages have a rustic charm but our newer cottage was a hike uphill from the restaurant and reception. Room was a decent size but sparsely furnished. View from the room bas blocked by plants. Being inside a volcano was very cool but the beach is tiny with gray volcanic sand, the swimming dock was crowded with young day visitors drinking beer and laying on the dock or the swimming platform. We had lunch shortly after we arrived. We ordered chicken soup. It was good soup but it cost over 10 US dollars per bowl. Our smoothies, soup and an order of three tiny empanadas was US$60. The Day was very windy and it was hot so we decided to leave a day early.
