Laguna de Apoyo is my favorite stop in Nicaragua and San Simian is my perfect place to experience the Laguna. I discovered LdA and San Simian 10 years ago and keep coming back. The property is well-kept and inviting. The lakeside accommodations are just steps away from the crystal clear Laguna. I always get a good night’s rest. There is often a nice breeze blowing in from the Laguna, keeping the temp a little cooler than the surrounding area. Awaken to a beautiful sunrise as the sun peeks over the rim of the crater. The food is excellent, well-prepared, and reasonably priced. Owner and staff care about making your stay enjoyable. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The owner can help you make plan and arrange transfers. His driver is excellent - friendly, on time, and safe. And the long promised improvements to the road were underway while I was there. San Simian is definitely off of the beaten track. Enjoy the tranquil surroundings.…
San Simian is the perfect place to relax a couple of days at Laguna de Apoyo. The bungalows are beautiful with a comfortable bed and an amazing (and hot) outdoor shower. They are surrounded by nice garden areas with hammocks and sunbeds. You can go swim, using the kayaks and tubes or just do nothing. Everything is very clean. The breakfast was delicious. I would always come back. Thank you for the nice stay.
Beautiful grounds and accommodations. Staff are friendly, food is great...what more can you say! Enjoyed the hikes to the top of the crater to two different towns. We saw Howler monkeys and petroglyphs. We are bird people and saw several cool birds including the national bird the Motmot.
Fabulous stay. Beautiful grounds at the eastern end of the road with lodging, so it’s private and quiet other than bird song and howling monkeys. Delicious food and excellent service. The cabanas are lovely. My husband and I were with another couple so we stayed in the 2-bedroom, 2-bath unit named Limon which has a living room with dining table, small fridge, sink and electric kettle for hot water, as well as a small terrace with view of lake which is great for listening to and watching birds at sunrise. We took our personal sea kayaks and paddled the 12-mile circumference of the geo-thermal-heated lagoon.
We stayed here with another couple for 2 nights. It was a delightful stay. Hanging out, great service for drinks and meals. We went for a swim and I was surprised how wonderful the temperature of the water was. Sitting on the balcony early in the morning and listening and watching birds made this stay a five star.
My wife and I recently had the pleasure of returning to San Simian and the pristine waters of Laguna de Apoyo. We stayed for two nights in a beautifully appointed room with views of the laguna. The room was clean and comfortable and the outdoor shower with lush greenery was an added plus. The food and service were excellent and we had access to kayaks, hammocks and a floating raft. San Simeon is a peaceful and relaxing oasis with tropical birdsong and howler monkeys echoing through the hills. Daniel and Raquel are wonderful and attentive hosts and we look forward to returning again soon.
If you are looking for the Garden of Eden look no further. San Simian is a tranquil oasis on an amazingly beautiful, pristine lake. San Simian is safe, clean and comfortable. Their food is delicious, fresh and healthy. The staff is friendly and accommodating. If you are hesitant to visit Nicaragua, don’t be. The country is full of amazing places and friendly, helpful people. We flew into Liberia, Costa Rica and arranged travel to the lake with Alex Ruiz (who you can find on Facebook). We didn’t have any trouble crossing the border and everything has been completely safe and tranquil since we have been here.
We stayed two nights while traveling around Nicaragua and fully enjoyed this perfectly located and managed eco-lodge! Daniel, the owner, is very helpful as is his entire staff! The food is delicious with fresh ingredients including a wide selection of yummy smoothies!! It’s the perfect place to relax! We’ll be back one day!! Andreas
Back in the Laguna in March, I stayed again at San Simian and was able to check-out their recently constructed cabina - Limon. Limon sits up the hill near the road and restaurant. The modern design and bright color set is apart from the other cabinas. Additionally, it is a two-story structure with a balcony overlooking the Laguna. Limon actually consists of two separate bedrooms and two baths, interconnecting to a common indoor spiral stairway, that ascends to a spacious, open sitting area with dining table and chairs, a couple of bench seats and lounger chairs. There is a widescreen TV, internet, a wet bar w/ mini refrigerator. It is open all the way around, and with large ceiling fans that provide good ventilation. It is a nice comfortable spot to hangout and relax. The space has good lighting for reading, playing games, meetings, or whatever. One bedroom features a queen bed and the other (2) bunk beds. There is seating in the room and dressers/racks for storage. The rooms have excellent lighting. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan, air conditioning and own indoor bathroom. The bathrooms have a spacious hot water shower, large vanity with storage and sink, and good lighting. Limon is ideal for a group or family, with space to be together, but also privacy when needed. I also took note of recent renovations to Coco and Papaya, both reconfigured, and with Coco gaining a sitting area and an outdoor bathroom. Bathhouses down by the beach bar have been expanded and the bar has been renovated. The landscape continues to evolve with new plants being added. I stayed for several days on the front and end of my trip. The food and service were excellent as usual. The staff is friendly and responsive. San Simian is a very tranquil property away from some of the properties catering to the younger crowd and day trippers. In my opinion, one of their biggest assets.…
What a wonderful place! Spent 2 nights here and loved everything about it. Staff is excellent! The food was delicious…best breakfast I have had in all of Nicaragua!! If your looking for some tranquility from the hustle and bustle of travelling this is the place!
