I was in Isernia, my grandmother's ancestral town, in June of 2019 and meant to write a review then but never got around to it,so I do so now.. I cannot really comment on COVID-19 prescautions there because I traveled pre-COVID. The Residenze Portacastello has much to recommend it. Great location, very pleasant public spaces, reasonably priced. My room was on the ground floor and was a bit dark at night, but a) the air conditioning was great--it was very hot outside when I was there; b) my room had the most spacious and best appointed bathroom of any hotel I stayed at across my several weeks in Italy, and c) while yes, you had to walk a ways to the cafe that served breakfast for the hotel, it's a pleasant walk and the cafe itself was also very pleasant. I would definitely stay there again.…
My wife wanted a terrace so we had to scale a lot of stairs. On top of the building is a big room with a big terrace. The funny thing here like elswhere is that you have call to see a living sole to open the building and give you the keys of the room. Then they disappear. The room was good as was the bathroom. There was also a little kitchen. You always question what will happen if you have an emergency. Probably call the police first.
I had a great time there. Nice place, close to great restaurants. Friendly staff and the breakfast was good, but far from the hotel. My complain is about the waiting time to check in, once there is no reception.
We didn’t pay for the first night but my daughter had to sleep on the floor because her bed was missing two baseboards. The management had a replacement bed the next morning but the room was too small anyway. Will have to specify better next time or make sure not to book room 2 arancia For more than two people.
In the old town center of Isernia, in an ancient building, a beautiful hotel with 7 rooms is located. The rooms sizes and design are different because of the building constraints. This only adds to the aesthetic beauty of this lovely hotel. Angelo, the hotel manager is available at any time to help. The feeling is really like living in the old city alleys. You can see from the window or the small terrace the neighbors' houses. The rooms are spacious, clean and decorated in a contemporary Italian touch. Parking is not far. Driving in the narrow alleys of the Old City is quite an experience. The price including breakfast at a cafe outside the hotel (get a daily voucher) - About 150 meters up the main street, is €55.
A one night stop-over at this B&B has given us a taste of Isernia and a desire to return. The exterior of the B&B PortaCastello belies the character of the interior! As is typical in the Centro Storico (Historic quarter) of very old Italian towns & villages (& Isernia is very old!) the streets are narrow and the buildings give little away from the outside. The inside of this B&B is contemporary with the use of old exposed stone and modern marble stairs with iron handrails. Our room was clean, comfortable and a good-size with modern fixtures and fittings, modern artwork and a spacious, very well-appointed en-suite. Free car parking is a short distance away, however you do have to walk up a steep narrow street to get to the B&B, as vehicular access to the door isn’t possible. A basic breakfast (you can choose between a few options) is provided in a nearby café and we enjoyed a delicious lunch at a local restaurant: Osteria O’Pizzaiuolo, which we enjoyed so much that we returned for our evening meal. If you are thinking of staying in Isernia the B&B PortaCastello is a great place to stay and the Osteria O’Pizzaiuolo is well worth a visit.…
Visited here with three friends as one of our friends is working in a local school. The rooms are excellent very clean and full of original features, we had one issue with one of the groups rooms and was moved straight away without a problem. Would defiantly recommend asking for a room with a balcony as this takes you off the ground floor away from the noise! The town is beautiful. One little downside is our rooms were not visited in the 3 nights we stayed which means we hadn't been brought clean towels or had the facilities cleaned or replenished. Will stay again!!
Right in the heart of the old city in Isernia, beautifully renovated old house divided into tiny appartments , each extremely well fitted out with all possible facilities. Good air conditioning, Windows and shutters, lovely comfy bed and great bathroom. We were met personally and all our needs catered for. Breakfast is not in the residence but we were given tickets for cappuccino, espresso and croissants in a charming local bar with tables outside in a tiny piazza. A lovely place to stay and we will be back whilst visiting family nearby. The pillows in Italy are universally hard - and this was no exception (we travel with our own feather ones...!!!). The shower ran intermittently cold and scalding hot- a problem that needs to be fixed as it would be unsafe for children. Minor details actually given the huge positives here. Also parking is possible nearby, but as in all residences in old walled cities, it is not directly outside. Perhaps some help with baggage would be appropriate and also despite good local knowledge, TomTom and Google maps it was difficult to negotiate the one-way system and find nd the parking nearest to the Residences. …
A very nice hotel/B&B. Original stone interior is typical of the surrounding buildings and a very nice touch. Rooms are very comfortable and some come with a small kitchen with appliances. Room 7 comes with a private terrace which is lovely. There is also a shared terrace adjoined to the private one for guests of other rooms to use. Breakfast is served at a little bar down the road where hot drinks and pastries are available. Only thing I could say is an issue is that there didn't seem to be any permanent staff in the building. There is a number posted on the door to call when you arrive to check-in which could be an issue for people who don't speak the language. Staff that I did meet were extremely polite, professional and friendly.
