Relaxing getaway from the daily hustle in natural surroundings. The beauty of the property, the rolling hills and especially proximity to the river sets this venue apart. Absolutely breathtaking. Excellent service from everyone from the receptionist, to waiters to managers. Compliments to the chef for the vegetarian cuisine, well prepared and flavourful, especially the pasta dishes. The nature trail on the property is something special. Go early and enjoy the sights, sounds and fresh air.. Right next to the river. Covid-19 protocols are excellent and you feel very safe on the property. The spa treatments were good and recommended for an extra spoiling.
The weather turned very cold whilst we were there, so we phoned reception and asked that the fireplace in our room be lit. They refused to do so, stating they didn’t light the fireplace at this time of the year. The staff also didn’t try to get us to use their Restaraunt, so we went out for dinner. Later in the evening we were phoned to be informed that the kitchen was closing. In these difficult Covid times, staff need to be better trained or have a better attitude.
I have always wanted to stay at Granny Mouse and finally my husband took me there for our Anniversary. For the most part, it was lovely. The room was delightful, the setting was beautiful and the atmosphere was just what I wanted. It's a pity about the service though It really was lacking in every way possible. There was never any one at the bar for us to get a drink and when my husband finally tracked a manager down, he was very snarky and made sure we knew he was dong us a favour. Even at breakfast the next morning, the same man was very rude to us. We are generally very easy going people so we weren't being extra demanding or anything like that. He was enough to make me not want to go back. The service on the deck was bad too. There were loads of waitresses however none of them were ever around and once again we had to track them down. When serving, they were lovely but it would have been nice if they were actually available to take orders. No one told us about the 50% discount on pastas and burgers, we found out about it when we checked out. It really would have been nice to know this while we were actually there and ordering our meals. Our food was incredibly disappointing. I had the fillet which was very tough and not pleasant at all. My husband had the lamb shank which he said was mostly sinew. Its such a pity as we had really looked forward to it. We did the Mousse and Wine pairing which I can really recommend. It was a lovely experience and something special to do. I know it is difficult times so I totally understand the stress levels of staff, however I really feel the service needs to improve dramatically before we go back.…
We stayed at Granny Mouse overnight on our route down to KZN. It is familiar to us as we have stayed there before. I have not been in a place where I felt "safer" in respect of Covid. From the little bottles of 70% sanitiser given to each guest to the knives and forks arriving in prepackaged brown bags at meals and the distancing of tables I felt protected. That said the standard of cleanliness, service and meals remained top notch.
Our trip was truly relaxing. The scenery and customer service specifically the food and beverage team were truly service orientated. The house keeping team also ensured that the place was neat and tidy specifically ensuring that COVID regulations are abided by. I would have thought that the rooms would have been renovated as they are now looking old and drab.
