Il Borgo Ritrovato is a structure situated in Montescaglioso, little town about fifteen kilometers away from Matera. If Matera means Sassi, Montescaglioso is Abbazia Benedettina. Il Borgo Ritrovato offers a stay suitable for who wants to have a break from the daily grind or/and the usual holidays. We guarantee the quiet and the elegance of a simple residence and a secretive and fascinating habitat. The hotel has 10 rooms of which three of them are little flats with lofts and with kitchenette or kitchen in a separate part of the room to satisfy every needs.

I was several times a guest at this hotel and always, when I can, I return. There is a mixture of great professionalism and hospitality that immediately makes you feel at ease. Beautiful renovation of the spaces that, having become very comfortable (as well as spotless), have deliberately and intelligently maintained the characteristic signs of the past. Many stories of the Borgo to hear in the stories of Francesca and Lucia, but also in their tireless parents. Peppino, the father, is the engineer responsible for the excellent renovation. This time a final treat for our stay: the delicious dinner on the Trappeto terrace. Welcoming environment, well organized and cared for, enriched by the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. An experience to be had.

We stayed in the "Village found" for two weeks. We had never been to Basilicata and were looking for a “base” to move around the region with ease, without having to change the place of overnight stay. Montescaglioso is the perfect place for this purpose, moreover we happened for the patronal feast of San Rocco that, for ten days, cheered us up with daily surprises and rituals felt and participated by the lively community. Thanks to the project of recovery and enhancement of the ancient and characteristic houses of the historic center, the widespread hotel of the "Rediscovered Village" allows you to immediately immerse yourself in the Lucanian reality, being able to count on all the comforts to which we are now accustomed. Considering the length of the stay, we chose a spacious room, with balcony and access to the roof, equipped with table and chairs and veil to shelter from the sun, very comfortable when we did not feel like going out to dinner. The room, with air conditioning, was always spotless. It is equipped with a fridge and a kettle; the bathroom with window has a spacious shower. Peace is assured, sleeps are guaranteed by the silence of the historic center with limited traffic. Breakfasts are always varied and plentiful with first choice products and zero kilometer: homemade cakes and jams, local cold cuts and cheeses, dried figs, prickly pears and other fruits, family-produced extra virgin olive oil, fresh bread and savory pizzas, yogurt, corn flakes, fruit juices and the inevitable croissants. I too, who am celiac, found the gluten-free products I needed (cookies, snacks, corn flakes, bread and rusks). All our requests were met promptly and with great kindness. Francesca and Lucia are always present at the Reception and ready to provide information, advice, suggestions for excursions and information on local customs ... and the best dairies and retailers of typical products. The tourist information materials made available to visit the region were also up to date and were very useful to us. Lucia and Francesca’s father gave us a lot of information about the history of the “rediscovered village”, the characteristics of the housing units, the vegetable gardens and the different factories that once included, including the Trappeto, the ancient oil mill lovingly restored by engineer Giuseppe. With its typical equipment for pressing olives (millstones and presses), today the Trappeto is an excellent restaurant and pizzeria (with large terrace!), which reminds its guests of the ancient intended use, telling an important part of the history of this beautiful land. In short, now we feel Montese and we will have to come back again, obviously for the August holidays: Viva San Rocco! Antonella and Lanfranco

The rediscovered village is an example of environmental redevelopment, ingenuity and creativity. It is a structure located in several points of an ancient village, which is finding light again thanks to the resourcefulness of two young sisters who have been able to create a beautiful harmony between past and present. Attentive to customer needs, exhaustive in information. The rooms are spacious, clean and equipped with all comforts. The breakfast, sweet and savory, favors excellent local products and is ready to satisfy all palates. Finally, it is my duty to applaud the choice of music that accompanied my delicious breakfasts.

We were looking for tranquility a few steps from Matera. We discovered, or rather, re-found, a cozy village in which we were pampered by the hosts. Large room, spacious. Cleanliness, great breakfast, kindness.
Highly recommended.

The friendly owners at Il Borgo Ritrovato and the residents of Montescaglioso erased any doubts that we had on our decision to not stay in Matera. I can confirm previous reviewers comments on the quality of service, rooms and breakfast, everything is fresh the cheese and jams are homemade. First time in 30 years of staying at Italian B&Bs that we had omelettes not just boiled eggs. Plenty of parking, a coin operated laundry and Ispar supermarket 5-10 minutes walk away. The laundry was clean and I even got an ovation when I finally got my machine going didn’t realise English instructions were on the wall. Most of the people at the Ispar spoke English with a New York accent. I would stay again and would recommend it to others especially if you are coming to Basilicata in high season or in 2019.

The rooms are spacious, clean and very comfortable. Free parking was easily found on close-by streets. Breakfast was always fresh, plentiful and delicious with a large variety of different local foods including fruit. Lucia and her family were always friendly and very helpful. We felt like part of their family during our entire four day stay there.

What a great welcoming what a great location. We felt so comfortable, as we would be at home where somebody is there to look after us almost all the time.

The rooms are fantastic, huge, beautiful architecture, warm and with heart furnished.
The bathroom is small but perfectly fitted in the room.
The breakfast. If you ever want to have local examples of a fantastic buffet for breakfast, go here. We got a freshly made Ricotta which was still warm, mozarella, fresh of course, a lot of cookies, hot croissants, pizza/foccacia-slises, bred, yoghurt, Müesli, fruits (inclusive the indian fig, which was fantastic, thanks for that one) and coffee.

From the breakfast buffet I could eat every morning and I would never be bored.

Thanks for this wonderful stay.

Not sure this is still helpful to you but parking is not a prob at all and you can park right opposite il Borgo Ritrovato. Montescaglioso has no parking issues and you can find parking easily everywhere.

"If wifi is important to you, ask for a room in the main building of the hotel. Rooms outside the main building do not have wifi, although the breakfast room is well connected and always open."
