Nice hotel (bit dated) and very friendly staff. BUT: IS A NO GO FOR ANYONE WITH AN ENVIRONMENTAL CONSCIOUSNESS. “Everything is plastic” at the Abama: small plastic water bottles in the room (WHY?) most 5* hotels use proper glas bottles), tiny plastic shower gel/shampoos, non recyclable plastic cups at the pools etc -> all translates into tons of UNNECESSARY daily waste + all if this on a small island. Totally irresponsible & unacceptable. SHAME ON YOU!!!

Response from The Ritz Carlton Abama, Other at The Ritz-Carlton, Abama

Dear Gordon M, Thank you very much for sharing your valuable and honest feedback regarding your most recent stay with us. My name is Charlotte Roelens and I am the Front Office Supervisor at The Ritz-Carlton, Abama. Following the pledge made by Marriott International to reduce plastic waste, we have been working on reducing plastic in our resort in the last years. Unfortunately the pandemic and its safety regulations have a big impact in our progress on reducing single-used plastic. In the last 2 years we have unfortunately needed to use more plastic to follow the local guidelines. It saddens us to hear that this has impacted your stay with us. We hope that we can go back to using less plastic soon and move forward in reducing daily waste to a bare minimum in the near future. Please let me know, if there is anything else with which I may be of assistance. Yours sincerely, Charlotte Roelens Front Office Supervisor +34 922 126 000

We had such a lovely time at this hotel. We have spent weeks in this hotel and always had a lovely time. The pools are heated to wonderful warm temps. And spotless. SPOTLESS. The rooms are perfect. The staff are always so welcoming and lovely and they have a tough time from many extremely demanding guests. The food is wonderful and the setting is just perfect. It is the perfect retreat. A beautiful resort that feels nothing but a privilege to be part of. The only cons.. The kids club at the main hotel wasn’t super. Staff aren’t enticing enough for kids to want to stay so it becomes a bit of a chore. It isn’t walkable to anything bar beach (steep hill but they have a cute train if you need a ride). They do have cabs waiting to take guests into the nearest towns. But they DEFINITELY need to run a shuttle service into San Juan or Adeje for guests esp when the beach is busy or on a cloudy day. The tvs need to be updated so that we can sign into our own Netflix or Prime accounts without having to pair iPads (and signal drop etc).

The hotel is excellent with great facilities! The train is a wonderful experience. Aurel is just phenomenal, he remembers my sons name every time and makes the effort to come and give him a high five and wave every time. It was honestly a highlight of the hotel. We had a golf cart but would take the train instead as Aurel was so wonderful.

We stayed here for 10 nights at the end of November and overall it was a great experience. Our room was fabulous – spacious and comfortable with a great ocean view looking towards La Gomera. The restaurants are all excellent and our particular favourite was Txoko by the lagoon pool – in our opinion the best food and best service. Getting around the huge complex is easy with the complimentary shuttle service (the train wasn't available when we were there). As guests, you have access to a dedicated area on the beach, with loungers, parasols and food service. Best thing about the hotel is the staff... everyone is friendly, helpful and always with a smile. Special shout-out to Judit and her team at breakfast service and Sebastian at the spa reception. Areas for improvement – like other reviewers, we were greeted and seated in the main lobby but left waiting for 15 minutes just to check-in. Dinner service on every night was also slow and chaotic with plenty of staff in the background rushing around but after initial greetings, we were often ignored or forgotten. After our orders were taken we noticed other couples who were seated well after us receiving their drinks and starters. We clocked eyes or joked with neighbouring diners also receiving the same experience. One server brought us another couple's dessert order while we were eating our mains! More attentiveness and more co-ordination from the restaurant managers is needed. The menu and pricing is high-end fine-dining so this clearly needs attention. Apart from the minor glitches, we loved our stay here and would definitely return.

Absolutely stunning hotel, amazing facilities, views and staff. Extremely helpful, and comfortable hotel Rooms are spacious, classy and so well appointed. Prices are very high, but it is high quality. Would also recommend for a romantic break. The photos are of the main reception area and sunset from our balcony.
