Great value for money hotel with nice staff and nice view of the lake. Approximately 10 minutes walk into the town of San Juan La Laguna. On-site restaurant with good breakfast. Room was big, yet basic. You can rent kayaks for free and start paddling directly from outside the hotel. Lovely kept grounds as well. Be prepared for steep steps though, as the hotel is built at the side of a mountain.
Such a quaint hotel, quiet, off the beaten path. So many common areas to just hang out and enjoy beautiful Lake Atitlan. We only stayed 1 night but would definitely recommend for longer periods if you would like peace and quiet. Restaurant on site with great meals, all the staff here are friendly and very helpful. Rooms are quaint and clean with beautiful lake views.
First off, this is not a fancy hotel. Your expectations need to be realistic considering the location you are in. In comparison to the USA, this is a two star hotel, however it is very clean and comfortable. With that said, here is why we consider it a 5-star hotel for San Juan. The room is small but ok for two people. We stayed in 4D which has a view of the mountain on one side and the lake on the other side. There is a small bathroom in the room with hot water - Tip: turn the shower water all the way, then back it off until you feel running water. Less water pressure will give the heating mechanism time to actually heat the water. The room is clean and comfortable for the most part. The hotel itself needs updates but it adds to the charm. There are hammocks on every level and places to sit and enjoy the lake view. The restaurant is decent with a great breakfast. You can also use the kayaks for free and it includes life jackets. The staff is the reason for the five star rating. They’re extremely nice. So much, that they asked our boat captain to pick us up at the dock connected to the hotel rather than having to walk to the general public dock. The restaurant staff is fast and they prepare good food. The location is secluded so you will have to walk five minutes to find a Tuk Tuk to take you into the small town of San Juan or San Pedro if you want more food and bar options. What to expect? A small hotel with adequate amenities to spend a couple of days in San Juan. I personally couldn’t do more than three nights, but everyone is different.…
Our stay was wonderful. The hotel felt like more a B &B since the staff were so wonderful to us and we spent a good amount of time there. We had the complimentary breakfast every morning which was delicious. Since this hotel is located sort of in between San Juan and San Pedro, it was slightly isolated, but in a good way. Even though we had breakfast every morning there, we were able to go out for lunch and dinner every night. It had a great view of the lake and beautiful common areas. There were kayaks available for us to use. It was a short walk to San Juan. The staff helped us book rides into San Pedro and hiking trips around the lake. The rooms were rustic, spacious, and clean. Overall we had a great 3-night stay at Uxlabil, highly recommend!
This is a beautiful hotel with grounds full of plants and flowers, places to sit overlooking the lake including the restaurant. It’s a bit out of town but the walk is about 10 minutes and it’s nice to walk through real life on the way rather than just the tourist zone. My room was beautiful..loved the colours and traditional touches. The hammock outside and view of the lake was amazing. It was super clean. The only thing in my room was that the bathroom had no natural light and was very dark but they aren’t all like that. The staff were very friendly, there was a place to refill water bottles which I love, and being able to go out for a kayak was awesome. I was disappointed in the coffee (for it being a coffee region) and the food was just ok. The restaurant overlooks the lake though and was a great place to have a glass of wine and watch sunset. My only other complaint/suggestion would be around cleaning of the rooms. With Covid most hotels aren’t offering housekeeping and only staying 2 days I didn’t need or expect it. I didn’t have my money well secured which was bothersome and although well intentioned staff touched/moved my toiletries in the bathroom and threw out some bags that I used to protect my things. I feel guests should be asked if they want this service rather than it being automatic. All in all I loved my stay here. It’s a beautiful place and I would stay again.…
The hotel is so friendly and clean it’s about 15 mins walk from San Juan and a 10Q/person from San Pedro on a tuk tuk but you can walk there as well (30 mins walk) so if you want a bit more life at night it’s easy to do. But get a tuk tuk back don’t walk. If you want a boat taxi during the day the hotel will just call them and it’s 10Q each to get to San Marcos. I would definitely return here again.
A little bit quirky and cut off from the area. If I was reshooting night of the Iguana this is the hotel I’d reshoot it in and not change a thing. Beautiful setting, a bit rustic, lots of stairs. The only place to eat in the area is the hotel restaurant. The menu is limited. The bar is out of everything. Rooms are not air conditioned nor have a ceiling fan. Fun for one night or two - not longer.
We stayed at this charming Eco Hotel for two nights. The setting right on Lake Atitlan is delightful, and our room was comfortable. Service was excellent, and although we spoke essentially no Spanish, we managed very nicely. Our favorite part was the food and service in the restaurant. Both breakfasts and dinners had good food options, and typically included some kind of fresh produce from the organic garden on the property. We especially enjoyed the Swiss chard soup! Our only complaint was that the noise from the nearby town made sleeping without earplugs a challenge: roosters, dogs, chicken bus horns, and even mortar rounds fired to celebrate local church activities. Small price to pay for an otherwise tranquil place in a beautiful setting!
Just got back from 4 days at one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. The hotel sets on the side of a mountain with a beautiful view of the lake and the mountains. The Indian Nose peak is directly in front of the hotel. The rooms are clean and they have plenty of hot water. The food at the restaurant was very good. The service was great. I was here for a conference but would diffidently go back for pleasure.
