The hotel is so friendly and clean it’s about 15 mins walk from San Juan and a 10Q/person from San Pedro on a tuk tuk but you can walk there as well (30 mins walk) so if you want a bit more life at night it’s easy to do. But get a tuk tuk back don’t walk. If you want a boat taxi during the day the hotel will just call them and it’s 10Q each to get to San Marcos. I would definitely return here again.

This is a beautiful hotel with grounds full of plants and flowers, places to sit overlooking the lake including the restaurant. It’s a bit out of town but the walk is about 10 minutes and it’s nice to walk through real life on the way rather than just the tourist zone.

My room was beautiful..loved the colours and traditional touches. The hammock outside and view of the lake was amazing. It was super clean. The only thing in my room was that the bathroom had no natural light and was very dark but they aren’t all like that.

The staff were very friendly, there was a place to refill water bottles which I love, and being able to go out for a kayak was awesome.

I was disappointed in the coffee (for it being a coffee region) and the food was just ok. The restaurant overlooks the lake though and was a great place to have a glass of wine and watch sunset.

My only other complaint/suggestion would be around cleaning of the rooms. With Covid most hotels aren’t offering housekeeping and only staying 2 days I didn’t need or expect it. I didn’t have my money well secured which was bothersome and although well intentioned staff touched/moved my toiletries in the bathroom and threw out some bags that I used to protect my things. I feel guests should be asked if they want this service rather than it being automatic.

All in all I loved my stay here. It’s a beautiful place and I would stay again.

First off, this is not a fancy hotel. Your expectations need to be realistic considering the location you are in. In comparison to the USA, this is a two star hotel, however it is very clean and comfortable. With that said, here is why we consider it a 5-star hotel for San Juan.

The room is small but ok for two people. We stayed in 4D which has a view of the mountain on one side and the lake on the other side. There is a small bathroom in the room with hot water - Tip: turn the shower water all the way, then back it off until you feel running water. Less water pressure will give the heating mechanism time to actually heat the water. The room is clean and comfortable for the most part.

The hotel itself needs updates but it adds to the charm. There are hammocks on every level and places to sit and enjoy the lake view. The restaurant is decent with a great breakfast. You can also use the kayaks for free and it includes life jackets.

The staff is the reason for the five star rating. They’re extremely nice. So much, that they asked our boat captain to pick us up at the dock connected to the hotel rather than having to walk to the general public dock. The restaurant staff is fast and they prepare good food.

The location is secluded so you will have to walk five minutes to find a Tuk Tuk to take you into the small town of San Juan or San Pedro if you want more food and bar options.

What to expect? A small hotel with adequate amenities to spend a couple of days in San Juan. I personally couldn’t do more than three nights, but everyone is different.

We stayed at this charming Eco Hotel for two nights. The setting right on Lake Atitlan is delightful, and our room was comfortable. Service was excellent, and although we spoke essentially no Spanish, we managed very nicely. Our favorite part was the food and service in the restaurant. Both breakfasts and dinners had good food options, and typically included some kind of fresh produce from the organic garden on the property. We especially enjoyed the Swiss chard soup! Our only complaint was that the noise from the nearby town made sleeping without earplugs a challenge: roosters, dogs, chicken bus horns, and even mortar rounds fired to celebrate local church activities. Small price to pay for an otherwise tranquil place in a beautiful setting!

A little bit surprised by the raves for this place tbh. I hate to leave a mediocre review for a place where everyone was so friendly. The view of the lake is amazing, so in that sense the location is good, but it’s quite a hike to the town. (Tuk tuks are cheap tho.) They we’re remodeling rooms all day—in case you like to rest during the day. I think the biggest negative was this stingy little glass of late-night wine for $6. I hadn’t taken either of my free breakfasts but wanted one glass of red wine after dinner in town one night and the owner literally poured in inch out of a nearly full bottle and said 35 quetzals. Idk. Just seemed wrong.

It takes a 30 minute boat ride to the hotel and property is on edge, but up hill and about 10 minutes away from downtown San Juan. Property is not kept up, rooms have a musky humid smell, lots of bugs, no ac, dirty (or stained) towels, sketchy looking shower, abandoned jacuzzi, dirty “massage” beds. This is a good hotel for backpackers that aren’t concerned about facilities, but definitely not families. For $109 I was expecting bit more. In fact, we didn’t shower and we left early cus we didn’t have a restful night due to bugs. I wanted to like this place but has work to do. Pro tip: stay in mainland Panajachel and pay a bit more for a decent stay.

Great value for money hotel with nice staff and nice view of the lake. Approximately 10 minutes walk into the town of San Juan La Laguna. On-site restaurant with good breakfast. Room was big, yet basic. You can rent kayaks for free and start paddling directly from outside the hotel. Lovely kept grounds as well. Be prepared for steep steps though, as the hotel is built at the side of a mountain.

Our stay was wonderful. The hotel felt like more a B &B since the staff were so wonderful to us and we spent a good amount of time there. We had the complimentary breakfast every morning which was delicious. Since this hotel is located sort of in between San Juan and San Pedro, it was slightly isolated, but in a good way. Even though we had breakfast every morning there, we were able to go out for lunch and dinner every night. It had a great view of the lake and beautiful common areas. There were kayaks available for us to use. It was a short walk to San Juan. The staff helped us book rides into San Pedro and hiking trips around the lake. The rooms were rustic, spacious, and clean. Overall we had a great 3-night stay at Uxlabil, highly recommend!

My husband and 2 teenage sons and I had a wonderful stay. The hotel is a short 5 m walk into San Juan de largo and a 10 m walk to San Pedro. It’s nice to be out of the town and the hotel it’s own pontoon which my sons spent all their time diving off into the gorgeous lake. The gardens are tropical and full of butterflies and birds and the dawn chorus is amazing. We had a great view of the Mayan face (rostro Maya) from our room. The views from the hotel restaurant are spectacular. The food is reasonably priced and the breakfast delicious. The staff very friendly and all from the local town. I’m so glad I booked here. It was the perfect location.

Just got back from 4 days at one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. The hotel sets on the side of a mountain with a beautiful view of the lake and the mountains. The Indian Nose peak is directly in front of the hotel. The rooms are clean and they have plenty of hot water. The food at the restaurant was very good. The service was great. I was here for a conference but would diffidently go back for pleasure.

How do we get here without a car?
Answer from Eco Hoteles U

It would depend from where are you traveling and at what time you need the transfer. We recommend to get to Panajachel and take a public boat (charges like Q25 per person) and they can leave you in our private dock (have to ask the boatman). To get to Panajachel you can take a collective shuttle or a cab. Please contact us so you can give us more information about the place and time of departure.

Dear Nino, I will explain to you in English, maybe you will understand us better cause we do not have a good French. It would all depends on the time of your arrival. You can take a collective shuttle or a white cab (one that we know). You have to consider the time of your arrival because you have to take a public boat in Panajachel to San Juan la Laguna, they work from 5:30am to 6:30pm. Please contact us by email so we can help you more. +502 2366-9555
