I traveled with a friend to MayAchik. The view from the bedroom window was over the spectacular mountains. The room was large and very comfortable. Staff were excellent and helpful particularly with arranging trips from the hotel. The menu was delicious and the Pina coloda to die for
Liked · Staff was amazing and helpful. Food is made from scratch, giving you a truely fresh meal. Resort grounds are rustic and cabin like. Bungalows are big and comfy. Sauna was amazingly hot and a good start to our day. Disliked · Beds and linens didn't seem very fresh and clean. As an eco friendly hotel, bathroom is similiar to an outhouse with no no real flush.
My partner and I spent a few nights at Eco Hotel MayAchik and really enjoyed it. The hotel is located a good 10-15 min walk from the lancha and the main streets, making it a very relaxing place to go back to after touring around the lake. Mind you, the walk from the lancha is fairly uphill, so if you have a heavy backpacks you might consider taking a tuk tuk (10Q pp). The rooms are surrounded by a big garden on more levels, with hammocks and plenty of tables to chill or eat your food. The shared bathrooms and showers are super clean and work perfectly. It was really nice to see eco toilets working so well and being kept so clean by the customers and staff alike! The shared kitchen is well equipped, so you can cook your own food. There restaurant has some good vegetarian options, and makes good coffee and cakes (we loved the banana bread). There is also a small sauna, which we totally recommend! Nice vibe, nice staff. Only little downside (probably of San Juan in general) is the amount of wild dogs alla round that bark at night non stop, and which we could hear very well from our room.…
Very good experience and it had a lot of confortables to have the room was spacious and rustic but the bathroom wasn't the best but they had a vegetarian restaurant that served good food Overall an amazing experience
We had the pleasure to stay here for two nights and loved this hotel. Staff is very friendly, rooms are clean and nicely decorated and the garden is just wonderful. We were a bit surprised by how low the prices were but nothing to complain about that! There is a very nice spa if you are into spa’s and the whole place is designed very much in harmony with the surrounding nature. Our room had a fabulous view of one of the mountains in the area. Showers worked great and had nice steady stream of warm water. Rooms very tidy and clean and plenty of linnen was provided to be comfortable. We had a dinner at the restaurant and really enjoyed it, even as meat eater you will enjoy the great vegeterian and vegan dishes that are offered, we surely did. Highly recommended.
I stayed in Colibri Room, it was beautiful an cozy, great way to travel and minimize the impact con lake atitlan because the toilet is ecological. It seems they care about suporting local economy. It was my favorite hotel un guatemela
We had a beautiful stay at Mayachik, for 3 nights in june 2019. Lovely accommodation in such a beautiful garden, quiet place, good food and good vibes... we loved it! Perfect to relax and rest. Easy 10 min walk to San Juan id you want to explore the village
Amazing place built around the Atitlán lake surrounded by the nature. All you need is here to get a pleasant journey, hammock, good food, stunning view and... A sauna ! The staff is here to help you to realise your next travel plan and make your days comfortable ! If you are visiting San Juan i advise you to come have a look at this place and at least try the vegetarian food ;)
I stayed at MayAchick for 5 nights and loved every minute. Evelyn and her staff were all very friendly, accommodating and worked hard at maintaining the place and making it a comfortable place for their guests. I stayed in the spacious Colibri hut which was super clean, airy with a comfortable bed. The food is delicious and priced fairly. The hotel is expanding and I hope expansion will be kept under control. Part of the charm of this Eco Hotel is the space and the fact that huts/cabins aren't squished. Fingers crossed. Thanks Evelyn and staff! Should I return to San Juan, MayAchik is at the top of my list!
I loved my stay in a bungalow with two backpacking friends in November. The bungalows are very private and shrouded in greenery. The restaurant is homey and teh food is delicious and very affordable. Elbia who worked the front desk was an incredible resource. Between acting as concierge, managing the staff, and cooking, she gracefully answered our many many questions with a constant smile and helped us arrange tours and transportation. You can experience many activities from their tour book without booking through the hotel, however we got a great guided tour to the coffee cooperative La Voz and up the San Pedro volcano. Both guides were local/indigenous Tzutujil men from Lake Atitlán, not a foreign-owned business. Overall, staying in San Juan La Laguna affords travelers the opportunity to give tourists dollars directly to the local community, which is not the case in many parts of Atitlán and Guatemala. On top of that, Eco-hotel Mayachik goes to great lengths to reduce your impact on the environment and preserve the beauty of Lake Atitlán. I particularly liked the composting toilets. The road from the lakeside dock up to the hotel is steep and fairly long so I recommend you ride up in a tuk tuk.…
