My partner and I spent a few nights at Eco Hotel MayAchik and really enjoyed it. The hotel is located a good 10-15 min walk from the lancha and the main streets, making it a very relaxing place to go back to after touring around the lake. Mind you, the walk from the lancha is fairly uphill, so if you have a heavy backpacks you might consider taking a tuk tuk (10Q pp). The rooms are surrounded by a big garden on more levels, with hammocks and plenty of tables to chill or eat your food. The shared bathrooms and showers are super clean and work perfectly. It was really nice to see eco toilets working so well and being kept so clean by the customers and staff alike! The shared kitchen is well equipped, so you can cook your own food. There restaurant has some good vegetarian options, and makes good coffee and cakes (we loved the banana bread). There is also a small sauna, which we totally recommend! Nice vibe, nice staff. Only little downside (probably of San Juan in general) is the amount of wild dogs alla round that bark at night non stop, and which we could hear very well from our room.

We had the pleasure to stay here for two nights and loved this hotel. Staff is very friendly, rooms are clean and nicely decorated and the garden is just wonderful. We were a bit surprised by how low the prices were but nothing to complain about that!

There is a very nice spa if you are into spa’s and the whole place is designed very much in harmony with the surrounding nature. Our room had a fabulous view of one of the mountains in the area.

Showers worked great and had nice steady stream of warm water. Rooms very tidy and clean and plenty of linnen was provided to be comfortable.

We had a dinner at the restaurant and really enjoyed it, even as meat eater you will enjoy the great vegeterian and vegan dishes that are offered, we surely did.

Highly recommended.

Such a beautiful place close to nature in San Juan La Laguna! I was volunteering there for a month and lived in a dorm, which was spacious with two showers ensuite. I liked the fact that as a solo traveler on budget, this place is perfect, as you can cook in the common kitchen, or order something delish in their restaurant (big portions and pretty affordable). I really enjoyed my time here and so grateful that I had an opportunity to be a part of the team. The sauna, hammocks, and a yoga/gym place made me feel so relaxed, too. If I go back to the Lake again, I will definitely come back 💚

For our visit in San Juan La Laguna we were looking for an eco friendly accommodation with a nice surrounding and then Eco Hotel MayAchik’ is spot on. Not only the cabins and garden settings are giving you a pleasant and natural feeling. The friendly staf makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. In top of that it’s running a splendid vegetarian restaurant where we enjoyed some delicious meals during our stay.
From the extra services that where offered we regret that we did not hade time to do the sauna but we did book two tours that where offered, both guided by Milton ( on other days also hotel receptionists), that gave us a good insight in the Guatemalan coffee growing process around San Juan La Laguna and the different local crafting like cotton weaving and coloring, honey bee keeping , natural medicines and the history of San Juan in general. I would recommend to do at least one of these. More is offered but we only hade one full day. Next time we are in Guatemala we would definitely spend more time here and enjoy this hospitality a few days longer.

It's located in picturesque settings within walkable distance from the San Juan La Laguna. This hotel one of the Softest and most comfy bed I ever slept on. The hotel also has an awesome sauna to relax, and environmentally friendly bio compostable toilet. They arranged tours of local weaving community, and also a guide and trekking to watch sunrise from the Indian Nose mountain. I stayed there just for one night due to tight travel schedule but I wish I could stay longer. Highly recommend this hotel.

Located in a quiet part of town, surrounded by lots of green. Friendly and helpful staff. Our Oruga room was spacious enough, mattrass and bedding was comfortable. The only improvement I suggested: more shelves, hooks or other storage space in the room. The shared shower with hot water was nice, but lacked a shelf for soap/shampoo. I would recommend staying here. The food in the restaurant is fresh and tasty.

Hello jge4253, I´m very sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with our hot water supply. We are always interested in improving our service and would therefore like to know in which bungalow you stayed and at which dates. We have recently improved our water system for most of our bungalows and it´s been working very good. I would be grateful for your reply so that we can address any problems there might still be. Kind regards, Evelyn Leithner Eco Hotel Mayachik`
