Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo is located uptown in Mejiro. While it is in the heart of Tokyo, the hotel is surrounded by our spacious scenic green garden, which gives the hotel an aura of quiet serenity. The property consists of three buildings: the hotel, the plaza and the tower; and a traditional-style Japanese garden. The hotel has 260 rooms, 36 banquet halls, 5 wedding facilities and 12 restaurants. The garden lets our guests experience the four seasons through its changing colors: camellias bloom in the winter, cherry trees bloom in the spring, fireflies fill the garden in the summer and the leaves change colors in the autumn. Please come and see why so many of our guests are awed by the changes of the seasons in the garden.

From the moment we stepped out of the taxi when we arrived until the time we departed, the entire experience was exceptional. Despite the hotel not being the most accessible we decided to treat ourselves at the end of our few weeks in Japan, and we are so glad we did. The immaculately presented and attentive staff set the scene for a very special stay. The rather uninspiring outside of the hotel hides the spacious and charming interior. Our room overlooked the city skyline which was a visual delight at night. Touches such as the turn-down service, the prompt response to the need to change our pillows, and the exceptional room cleaners who made up the room so beautifully (and yet I don't ever recall seeing or hearing them unlike every other hotel we were in). The hotel's gardens are a 'must see' experience. We wandered the many pathways of the vast gardens and the sheer scale of Tokyo felt so far away. The autumn leaves were coming into colour, and we were fortunate to have calm days with deep blue skies. The garden paths took us past delightful statues, traditional and quaint wooden private dining areas or activity venues, bridges, streams, waterfalls, a small lake and beautiful manicured gardens. We were also fortunate that our first night had the final session of the full moon display at night over the lake, a truly unique experience. Hopefully we will stay again, if not our three night stay was a memory we shall cherish.

Dear Mr. Robert, Thank you for staying with us and for writing a review on TripAdvisor. It is so nice to read that you enjoyed our property and service to the fullest. Reviews like yours are "vitamins" for the staff and we will definitely share your comments. Especially, the rather invisible housekeeping staff will be delighted as they get less response than the staff with direct guest contact. Thank you! It is also our hope that you will stay again with us, but for the time being we cherish this review you wrote. With warm regards from all of us at Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo!

My family and I stayed here during the last leg of our vacation to Japan. I am so glad we did. This place oozes old school elegance. The hotel, rooms and grounds are gorgeous. Their attention to detail is spot on. From the remote blackout curtains to the nicest turndown service we have ever experienced, nothing was missed. The rooms are comfortable and elegant. The bathrooms are like mini spas. The garden is magic.

The only downfall is the location. It is a bit removed from the action of Tokyo so getting around took a bit longer than we were used to. The area surrounding the hotel is mostly residential, so you can't just walk out of the hotel and easily find restaurants. The restaurants in the hotel are pricy, so being so far removed from the center of Tokyo, when it came time to eat, was a little annoying.

Dear PitstburghAndi Sama, Thank you for staying with us. We are glad that you enjoyed our facilities and service. We are indeed located in a residential area. However, our concierges would like to recommend Kagurazaka for your next visit. Kagurazaka is a lovely local neighborhood just a short taxi ride away. The area is famous for restaurants, from simple noodles to 3-star Michelin establishments. Besides that, the atmosphere is very relaxed and interesting. We hope to see you again! With warm regards, Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo

My family and I stayed six days at the hotel Chinzanso. I faced the challenge of finding a hotel for five people near the University of Tokyo. The options were limited. For example, we would have needed three rooms at the Tokyo Dome hotel that were expensive and ordinary. The Hotel Chinzanso had suites, so we could do one normal room for two and one suite for three. Combined with their get one night free for each two nights stay, the hotel was LESS expensive (an astounding outcome given the quality of the Chinzanso). For that price, we were able to enjoy their beautiful Japanese garden, which we visited every day (the regular misty cloud generation is something to look forward to). The dining options were excellent and reasonably price. Even by Tokyo standards, the service was amazing. Housekeeping was impeccable. We were on upper story rooms and enjoyed great views. While the hotel is not located in an interesting neighborhood, there is a bus stop in front and a subway station less than ten minutes away. Taxis are always waiting. We had no difficulty visiting anywhere we wished within 30 minutes. The hotel does have a dated, 1980's look to it, but after you have been there for more than a day, that becomes part of the charm. I suspect that the dated look is why it is not twice as expensive. Tokyo is a tiring city, the Hotel Chinzanso is a great place to come home to. We were so grateful we found it.

Dear dallasdrc and Family, Thank you for choosing our hotel for six days. Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo is indeed a special place, completely different from other luxury hotels in town. It is in a quiet and peaceful residential area in central Tokyo so, as you mentioned, it is easy to get around by subway or taxi. The interior is rather classic with marble floors and wooded panels, decorated with Asian antiques which is also rare as most hotels have a more modern design. We are also grateful that you found us and hope that we may welcome you back many more times. In the meantime, all the best and warm regards! Guest Relations, Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo

My wife and I stayed here for four nights in August prior to a 12 night cruise around Japan. We chose Hotel Chinzanso after searching many alternatives and reading customer reviews. We were not dissapointed. The staff were exceptional, and easily among the most welcoming teams from any hotel chain we have stayed with, and we have stayed with some of the best around the world. Every member of staff did their very best to ensure our every wish was catered for. The hotel is in a quiet location away from all the hustle and bustle of the city centre, and the gardens must be among the best in the world. We would most certainly stay here again whenever we return to Tokyo.
To some guests the hotel may seem a little dated, but that in itself adds to the overall charm of the hotel. There are ice machines on each floor, but no vending machines anywhere on site. Anyone wanting a cold drink late at night, was out of luck, and there were quite a few guests going to the local shops to bring back drinks and snacks.
There are several restaurants on site, all serving good food, but there is very little choice for those wanting a quick snack, rather than a meal. The hotel would do well to look at this, as there was nowhere where we could get a choice of sandwiches, pizza, omelettes, toasties etc. Sure, there is a Bistro and a bar, with a limited menu, but only offering a club sandwich as a snack. We did have a little unpleasantness in the bar on our last evening. We were asked to leave because I was not in long pants. I pointed out that I had happily spent the previous three evenings in the same bar dressed in the same smart shorts, and nobody had said anything to me. It seems there is a dress code which i had not been informed about. I was told I could still enjoy my food and cocktail in the hall/corridor outside or return to my room to change. It was only when I suggested we ask the duty manager why I should be treated so differently on my very last evening that I was allowed to remain. (To be fair, if there was a dress code, then this server was the only staff member attempting to enforce the rule, and he should be praised not blamed)
We did have one amusing episode when we reserved an afternoon tea in the Jardin restaurant. It happens that I am unable to eat seafood or mushrooms, and when I explained this to the wonderful restaurant manager, he whisked away our food.
I explained several times that he only needed to replace my sandwiches with a ham or cheese sandwich and I would be very happy. After a long wait, our setting was returned to us with alternative cakes and deep apologies. However, despite my pleas, I left the restaurant convinced the chef did not know how to make a cheese sandwich.
On our last day we were treated with the utmost courtesy by the guest relations manager who made our departure a real event, even seeing us safely into our awaiting reserved transportation. We will certainly return to this lovely hotel, and hope they invest in a vending machine, (even if they feel the need to keep it out of sight.)

Wow! Hard to believe that this oasis exists in the middle of the largest city in the world. Acres and acres of perfectly manicured gardens with an incredible number of camellia varieties (“Chin" means camellia and "zanso" small mountain and Chinzanso Hotel Garden is truly is a small mountain covered with hundreds of specimen variety camellias plus an ancient pagoda relocated from Hiroshima and beautiful outbuilding restaurants. This peaceful, private garden is open only to hotel guests to wander with twice-hourly mist shows. Be sure to wander several occasions, morning, mid day, twilight and evening.
The staff is extraordinarily attentive, guests feel truly welcomed and special. My grandsons were each give a gift when they arrived, adorable little stuffed dogs, and they had the crib set up fro the baby with a hamper of baby supplies and another stuffed toy.
The view of the Tokyo skyline are incredible, you could even see Skytree from our window.
The Spa area is lovely for a small fee. Steam bath, sauna, indoor and outdoor onsen and swimming pool included. There is even a breakfast bar for a very small fee in the spa.
Restaurants were amazing and a reasonable price.
Location is in a small, quiet residential area bit only a few minute taxi ride from Shinjuku, Tokyo and the Imperial Palace. Taxis are always out from ready to go (even if you forget to book one for the airport😳) . Conbinis are within walking distance. Next door to Eisie Bunko Museum.

Your comment about the Camellias in the garden was so adequate and it is indeed lovely to take a refreshing walk where it is not too crowded in the heart of Tokyo. It will be our pleasure to see you back again with your 3 beautiful grandsons (Hope they are enjoying the stuffed dog the iconic Japanese dog breed “Shibainu”!). Absolutely spoiled for a spa trip, recovering from jet lag. Tour the gardens at night, and again in am. Spectacular! The room upgrade was appreciated, enormous room with every amenity including pajamas, exercise clothes and shoes available. American breakfast 3rd floor was amazing, i had the healthy start green smoothie, quinoa and vegetables with a poached egg and highly recommend. I’m not clear that we eat this type of breakfast regularly in America but we should. There is also a Japanese breakfast 2nd floor. Lots of dining on site, the only one open on a Monday was the casual dining (which was quite formal), and had a nice vegetable soup with a thoughtful, yet reasonable wine by glass. I didn’t see a bar but would have enjoyed even more “casual” dining. Exercise room needs a Peloton please! Bike was very old. Free weights and mats were nice. Outdoor hot tub a secret find, it wasn’t very hot however but really beautiful at night. Incredible property, very thoughtful staff at check in, and I walked to the other gardens along the Edo River. Hotel gardens far superior to those.

Please consider that yhe staff in hotels belonging to American hotel chains perfectly speak English.

Dear Mr. Gianmario, Thank you for staying with us. We are glad to see that you enjoyed the location and garden. The garden is indeed something special in the middle of Tokyo. Regarding the English language ability of our staff, I would like to tell you that we are actively teaching foreign languages - not only English. As you understand, mastering a foreign language is not something which everybody can achieve in just a few lessons/months or years. Especially when you consider that Japanese and English are completely different languages. However, everybody is doing his/her best and on top of that we have bilingual staff in every department. Indeed, we are not an American hotel chain. We are a Japanese traditional hotel where most of the staff is Japanese. I hope you will return one day and appreciate the Japanese hospitality and not worry too much about the English ability. Furthermore, our concierges are all fluent English speakers and can always assist you if communication does not go smoothly. With warm regards, Director of Guest Services

We debated long and hard about our stay here and are so glad we committed. The hotel is truly incredible. Every room has a view of the most amazing garden in Tokyo. The garden is a delight to explore and if you’re patient you’ll spot fireflies in the wild along with a plethora of other wonderful sights. The rooms are spacious and the beds and pillows are incredibly comfortable which is hard to find in Tokyo! The turndown service is just lovely with the staff being so professional and polite. The gym is the best I’ve encountered in this city and the spa and pool areas are divine. My only slightly negative experience was the stone grill restaurant. An extremely expensive meal which we don’t mind paying for, but the wine list is full of Chardonnay with no other choices. It’s a let down for such a high caliber restaurant. Thankfully they offered us wines from another restaurant but this menu should be reviewed, specifically for western guests. Other than this I absolutely loved this hotel and rate it highly amongst the many hotels around the world that I’ve stayed in. Thankyou team Chinzanso.

Dear Ms. BubbleGirl13 from Australia! Thank you for deciding on our hotel after debating whether to stay or not to stay here. We are also glad that you made the right decision and enjoyed the experience! Our garden is indeed a very special place in the middle of Tokyo. However, we have rooms with a garden view but also rooms with a city view for guests who prefer to see the Tokyo city lights at night. Thank you for mentioning the limited wine choice at the Mount Fuji Stone Grill restaurant. I will discuss it with the Food and Beverage department and am confident that they will offer more wines in the near future. Thank you once again, especially for writing your last sentence in this review. We hope that we may welcome you back on your next visit to Tokyo. This year again we have booked a number of overnight stays in the Chinzanso hotel
It is always a pleasure to be here.
Staff is very friendly and they do their utmost best to make our stay as pleasant is possible.
The concierges, the doormen, the receptionists, staff in the restaurants, but actually everyone is always nice and friendly and nothing is too much for them to make our stay enjoyable.
We received advice regarding restaurants in and staff also made reservations for us.
And they also explained the use of public transport.
Breakfast at the hotel is superb. You don't want to miss it: various types of bread, juices, egg dishes, too many to mention.
We had a room with garden view. Staff adviced us to watch the fireflies in the garden around 10 pm. What a special experience . And of course the sea of clouds: early in the morning just after 7, you walk through the fog, everything is quiet as the day awakens. Wonderful.
The spacious room is equipped with all amenities, including a fantastic bathroom with jacuzzi, beds you don’ t want to get out of, so you can sleep well here, but also various extras such as a Nespresso machine. And don’t forget the spa and swimmingpool.
It is a 100% enjoyment.
We really want to come back here again.
Thanks to all the staff who made our stay here so special.
Henk and Louise

Beautiful old world Japanese hotel with traditional rooms and amazing service.

The rooms are really spacious in Japanese standards, the curtains are floral which is a little unusual (but they open and close with a press of a button) and the furniture dark wood and the big bed very comfortable. Big spacious cupboards and great bathroom too. Beautiful amenities replenished daily. Loved the turn down service at night with the little chocolates left by the bedside.
A lovely treat.

The gardens are just spectacular with a pond, a red bridge and a pagoda. Great for a stroll & taking photos. Many brides come there for wedding photos. The BEST part of the hotel is the impeccable service.

I was a tour leader with 16 ladies and we stayed for 4 nights and everyone was impressed. The reception was helpful and efficient and the concierge desk was just so amazing giving us recommendations and making dinner reservations on our behalf. I’m particular I need to mention Andre Sol who really went beyond the call of duty every day for me. Also Akiho Hitoshi was very kind and helpful on numerous occasions. The ladies at the desk also were amazing. ( sorry I didn’t catch their names).

Only a couple of issues;
1. The hotel is quite a distance from Shinjuku and other entertainment and interesting districts so we used taxis very often. There is a station not too far away as well which I used once.
2. The breakfast room isn’t big enough. Sometimes there is a wait for breakfast which isn’t good when in a hurry to meet the group for our daily tour. They offered a buffet in one of the banquet rooms downstairs but they was t very amazing for a hotel of that standard. But the service is good everywhere. I didn’t try the other restaurants in the hotel.

Thank you for your inquiry. Our hotel is located near Edogawabashi station on the Yurakucho subway line. This line brings you straight to the Ginza area in about 15 minutes. Ginza is famous for shopping and close to Tokyo station. You can also get directly to Ikebukuro (less than 10 minutes), a major commercial district and the old fish market (Tsukiji - in about 20 minutes). For Shinjuku you would have to change to a different subway line, but we have a bus stop in front of the hotel straight to Shinjuku (or Ueno where the museums are). The concierge in the hotel can give you the quickest and easiest transportation options once you are here - also for transportation from and to airports. Please keep in mind that we are in central Tokyo but in a residential area, surrounded by our garden and more greens - it takes about 10 minutes to the subway station. We hope this answers your question but feel free to contact us. It would be nice to welcome you here in a quiet green oasis in the metropolis. With warm regards, Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo!

Dear Guest, Thank you for choosing our hotel. You actually choose one of the best hotels in terms of jogging courses. We are located in a very green residential neighborhood in central Tokyo. Right behind our garden there is a river. This river (Kanda river) is a popular route for jogging, whether it is 5, 10 or more kilometers. You can run together with many other local runners. In your room you will find a jogging map or the concierge can give you the details upon arrival. Looking forward to your visit! Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo

Depending on the occupancy and next guests, we may sometimes extend the check-out time a few hours. We cannot guarantee a complimentary late check-out of 15:00 - it really depends. If you want to secure your room until 15:00, we charge 30% of our regular (not discounted) rates. It may be the best to ask when you are here, and if it is not possible you can always enjoy a restaurant, garden or the neighborhood. Please contact us in case you have more questions. With warm regards from Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo!

Dear Georgette, Thank you for choosing our hotel for your stay. The easiest way to get to our hotel is by means of the Airport Limousine Bus. The bus leaves right in front of the arrival lobby. Tickets can be bought upon arrival at the counter in the arrival lobby. There are buses bringing you to Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo, departing at 15:55, 16:55, 17:55 (depending on the arrival terminal about 5 minutes later, resp. 16:00, 16:05 & 16:10 for the 15:55 bus). The 15:55 bus will arrive at approx. 18:40 at our hotel. It akes a bit of time, but it is the easiest. Otherwise, the Skyliner is another option to Nippori station and then a 20 minute taxi to our hotel. If you want to use your rail pass, you can only use the Narita Express to Tokyo or Ikebukuro station and then a taxi to our hotel (from Ikebukuro station about 10 minutes). We are looking forward to welcoming you and your children. Our hotel is really nice for little kids as we are in a quiet green and safe area and have a playground next to our compound as well. With warm regards, Andre (Guest Services)
