Shockingly small!! Reviews and ads available online hugely mislead. The room is way below basic, and too small to open our luggage! It is also hard to find, its street frontage is literally a door, not much wider than 1.5 meters. The lift may become a challenge if you bring a small family with a couple of luggages. There is...

We come from a land down under, and our knowledge of the Japanese language is limited to major car and motorbike manufacturers, brands of electronic goods, and a few odds and ends like hello and thank-you. The Dormy Inn (which is a chain) in Akihabara was an inspired choice, and well worth the research to choose it. It is close...

For Tokyo, I thought this was a great bargain. While the rooms are small (not unexpected), everything was sparkling clean. The little amenities did a lot to make this a very pleasant stay -- including the hot tub at the top floor. Plus, they had a washer and dryer available for personal use also at the top floor! For a...

Average Hotel, Average breakfast, 3 mintues walk to Akihabara station. Public bath area "Onsen" on the top floor & free ramen from 930pm to 11pm. No complaints, no compliments. Just average room with the average price you pay for any hotels in expensive Tokyo! The room is much smaller than the one in Osaka!

I stay in this hotel every time I come to Tokyo - it's a fantastic hotel that I love staying in. Dormy Inn is located just off of Akihabara, less than ten minutes to Akihabara station by foot (for the looping Yamanote line, the Sobu line to Chiba or western Tokyo) the Hibiya Subway, the Keihin Tohoku to Yokohama, or...

For me, the question of this hotel begins and ends with its location. It's about a three minute walk from Akihabara station and the heart of Japanese otaku culture for anime, manga, and video game lovers. Because of our proximity, I could take my non-geeky boyfriend to do all kinds of other cultural and touristy things around the city during...

Staying in Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda

Neighbourhood Profile
Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda
Ochanomizu boasts its academic foundations starting with Yushima Seido, the birthplace of modern day Japanese education. The area has kept its college town feel with several university campuses. If you head towards Jinbocho, you'll find musical instrument and sports equipment shops, and an area of used bookstores for students and anyone interested in literature and the arts. Akihabara is well-known for its computer and electronic goods stores, and is now hugely popular as the must-visit mecca for people interested in anime and games. Kanda is an office district where you can find loads of reasonably priced izakayas popular with professionals who stop to eat and drink before making their way home.
