The room is small, per Tokyo norms. the staff speaks less English less well than some other venues. this can create a whole bunch of small but annoying instances of miscommunication, even if you speak a little Japanese, as i do. but the room is comfortable enough, there is a small workout room (I didn't have time to use it,...

Located in a rather quiet neighborhood we still got to hear all the noise from outside. Room was clean and pretty big by Tokyo standards. Lots of places to eat nearby. Not so close to the airports. It takes some time to manage to find it.

A good stay overall. Hotel is nice and staff is pleasant. Room is small - as to be expected in Japan - but offers amenities. Metro and JR stations withing walking distance, but connections to Tokyo Central station are not easy. Did not try restaurant. Overall, a good pick for a stay during the week, but week end rates seemed...

Happy to find Niwa through TripAdvisor. We really enjoyed our stay here. Clean rooms, good breakfast, and good service. Train station close by. Mini market next door was a life saver. Especially traveling with two kids. Snacks and water were always on hand! If ever in Tokyo again, I would stay at Niwa.

I had a great trip to Tokyo this year, and one significant contributing factor was the Hotel Niwa. It's convenient, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the room was extremely comfortable and well equipped. I enjoyed my pajamas very much. The bed was comfortable, and the toilet seat was amazing. It felt like a luxury hotel. I stayed in...

Stayed 3 nights,. The hotel arrange our bus-taxi pick up from Narita & that was big help, after the long flight from east coast USA. The room was on the small side, but they paid attention to our request for quiet location away from elevator. Room clean & could even open the window a bit. Complimentary dinner in restaurant poor--fish...

We arrived in Tokyo jet lagged and discombobulated. We had arrived at the height of cherry blossom (Sakura) season by accident. Getting any reservations to high end restaurants, or getting guides, last minute was impossible for us on our own. The Niko hotel really stepped up and assisted. The first night we arrived, they recommended eating in their own Japanese...

We stayed for five nights, the room rate does not include breakfast and is charged at 2500 yen each, so we never took breakfast here. We tried to use the relax chairs on the third floor but each time we popped by they were occupied. There are plenty of good eateries around, try Roberto towards the Jimbocho metro on the...

This was our first time visiting Tokyo and we loved coming back to Hotel Niwa at the end of each day. Location is excellent - it's a pretty quiet neighbourhood but there are both a Japan Rail and subway station (Suidobashi) within walking distance. The rooms were quite small (but not uncomfortably so, expected for Japan) and very clean. The...

Staying in Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda

Neighbourhood Profile
Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda
Ochanomizu boasts its academic foundations starting with Yushima Seido, the birthplace of modern day Japanese education. The area has kept its college town feel with several university campuses. If you head towards Jinbocho, you'll find musical instrument and sports equipment shops, and an area of used bookstores for students and anyone interested in literature and the arts. Akihabara is well-known for its computer and electronic goods stores, and is now hugely popular as the must-visit mecca for people interested in anime and games. Kanda is an office district where you can find loads of reasonably priced izakayas popular with professionals who stop to eat and drink before making their way home.
