This is my first trip to Tokyo, Japan. I highly recommend this hotel to tourists especially you are first timer came to Tokyo. First of all, it’s close to all JR train & Tokyo Metro stations which is very convenient if you want to travel to other tourist spots. Secondly, 5-star guest services, check in procedure starts from giving us a cup of hot matcha and some snacks. I felt so warm and touching as a guest because we just got off from the plane and tired, this is a well prepared services and gave us a nice first experience. Thirdly, room facilities and amenities are well prepared and it surprised me that mini bar is free of charge and refill everyday; also there’s a laundry machine that you can use for free which is so great for tourists to relax after their trip and clean their own clothes at night. I want to specially thank Ms Kanda (神田) for her well trained hospitality services (good smiling, can speak English so well & offer help whenever she can during our stay) We truly enjoyed our first trip and stay in Ryumeikan Honten in Tokyo and I’ll definitely come back next time. Oh yes finally before I take a taxi to airport from our hotel, all staff were bowing to us. As a hotel worker, i never felt that hospitality services can do it in such way and I’m really thankful I stayed here and learnt from you guys, all of you are awesome!

Hotel Ryumeikan Ochanomizu Honten was a fabulous introduction to Tokyo. My wife and I wanted to experience a small classy boutique hotel in Tokyo rather than an 5 star institutional hotel. It was perfect ! Small, personal, friendly hotel with outstanding service. We arrived early evening and the front desk made a reservation for us at a local Tempura restaurant. Not only was the setting excellent but they made sure we didn't get lost, and physically walked us to our meal. Location is great. Rooms are spacious, sparkling clean and very up to date. Staff was fantastic. Couldn't ask for more ! 1899 is a great option for a quick meal.

My hubby and I had an amazing over-night stay at Hotel Ryumeikan Ochanomizu Hoten. Everything was perfection and we only wish we didn't have to fly out the next day! We loved every minute of our stay and had a phenomenal experience.

There are so many great things about our stay, I don't even know where to begin.
- Incredibly hospitable and sweet staff. Everyone who attended us genuinely cared about making sure our every need is attended to, made our stay so easy and smooth.
- Beautiful traditional rooms, very spacious and comfortable for Tokyo. Mini bar beverages were included in the room rate, along with really nice toiletry items. Traditional Japanese lounge clothes, bathrobe and pajamas came with the room and were a nice touch. The bathroom is amazing, the bath tub is massive.
- Amazing in room breakfast, so photogenic and perfect way to start the day! This is a must order when staying here, really an experience on its own.
- Loved the Location! There are three Metro stations steps away from the hotel, making exploring Tokyo very easy. Really quiet area but there are A LOT of really good and decently priced restaurants around.

We really had the perfect stay, only thing is we had too little time to enjoy this dream hotel. But we will most definitely be back next time in Tokyo!

Fabulous small hotel in the Chiyoda district of Tokyo, which made it quiet but still with several excellent restaurants nearby. Only two stops to Tokyo station on the subway. Furnishings are elegant and understated, sort of like a Japanese garden. Pictures on the website are accurate but cannot convey the elegance. Bathroom is unbelievable! Staff bend over backwards to help in any way they can. It totally spoiled us for the rest of our trip in Japan. If you are looking for nightlife then this is not your place, but if you want the perfect hotel to come back to at the end of a busy day of sightseeing then this is your place.

I debated writing this review: this is clearly a hidden gem, and with only 9 rooms, I would probably not be able to stay there if it got too popular...

This is truly one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. In no particular order:
- Charming rooms, well designed with tasteful Japanese flair. They are huge by Tokyo standards
- Hugely attentive staff, welcoming and warm
- Concierges were extremely effective in securing reservations at very sought after restaurants
- Common areas are fantastic, including a lovely library.
- Delicious breakfast
- Amenities are unheard of: complimentary nespresso, water, sodas and beer in room; snacks in the library
- Fast wifi, good working area, plugs in all the right places
- Very modern equipment, mixing function and tradition (the ceramic tub is gorgeous, and huge)
- Great location: max 5 min walk to Chiyoda, Marunouchi, Toei Shinjuku, and JR Chuo lines

As a seasoned traveler, I cannot recommend this hotel enough.

I would recommend to anyone visiting Japan, a stay at the Hotel Ryumeikan Ochanomizu Honten! A stay here, is a truly one of a kind authentic Japanese experience! The location is also great, right up the street from the Ochanomizu station, with easy access to all parts of the city.

The hotel is very small, so service is personal and tailored to each guest. The rooms are stunning! I stayed in the "Fuji" room. The simple Japanese style is flawless, the intricate blinds, soft matt flooring and low comfortable beds make the entire experience feel very Japanese. The bathroom is fantastic, a very nice electric toilet and large sink area, plus a beautiful deep stone bath. What a treat to bathe in the traditional style bath with the nice saki extract bath soak after a long day of sightseeing. An experience I haven't had elsewhere that's for sure! The room was very quiet and a nice place to relax, with a large sofa and a nespresso machine (a hotel requirement in Japan if you're a coffee drinker). One of the nicest touches, which I haven't seen elsewhere, was complimentary postcards and postage. I was able to write three really beautiful postcards to friends and family and the hotel sent them to Australia for me, free of charge!

The hotel also has a library which is a nice place to chill and read with tea, coffee and biscuits. And an extra bathroom/changeroom and laundry area which can be used at any time! I didn't use these facilities, but I think it's a great idea for guests who arrive before check in time, or want to freshen up after they have checked-out.

The authentic traditional Japanese finishes were the highlight of my stay. There were origami folded cranes on our pillows when we arrived, we had full complimentary use of the beautiful kimonos, little toe socks and even the traditional wooden thong sandals. We had great fun wandering around our room and backwards and forwards to the library in our special shoes! The star of the visit however was the stunning Japanese breakfast which was served in our room. The breakfast included very generous bento boxes filled with all kinds of treats! fruit, yoghurt, vegetables, soup, rice, fish, green tea, juice, it was all very yummy and immaculately presented. It was so great to be able to spread out our fare on our table and sit together and enjoy it in the privacy of our room. We got doe great photos too, wearing our kimonos and drinking from our nice little tea set.

My stay at the Hotel Ryumeikan Ochanomizu Honten was superb in every way. I would recommend it to all types of travellers, couples, friends, families and business travellers. Even if you normally stay in more budget accommodation, I can't stress enough, how much it is worth treating yourself to this experience. I felt like my trip to Japan would not have been complete without it!

We stayed here for 4 days after travelling to South Korea. We have travelled expensively throughout the world and do not penny pinch, but most of the hotels in Tokyo seemed to be the usual large chains and on balance we do prefer smaller boutique hotels due to the personal service you receive.

We were delighted with our choice after rejecting the larger high end chains around Maranouchi and Tokyo station. It is a ten minute walk to the Imperial Palace and just a few pounds taxi to get to most places like Ginza, Skytower and Shinjuku as well as the numerous beautiful spring gardens at this time of year.

The staff could not have been more helpful and were an absolute delight at all times. Impeccable service, so, so polite and utterly charming. The rooms are spacious and extremely good value and far more comfortable than we had expected.

The huge round bath tub, was great and easily big enough for two. The room cleaning and turn down service prompt and impeccable.

After having shopped till we dropped and wandered the streets in the evenings, the perceived benefit of being more central was not really important as it really is a metro journey or a taxi journey wherever you want to go to. Bearing in mind the hotel is less than a couple of minutes walk away from a quiet station, I really do not see the point in staying more centrally. There is not much happening anyway.

It is in between the book district and the anime district and so if this appeals it is another advantage.

You will not be disappointed.

I've been traveling to Tokyo regularly for business for more than 15 years, but the Ryumeikan in Ochanomizu is unique in my experience among Tokyo hotels. This is a very small hotel - only nine rooms - done in a "modern Japanese" style, reminiscent of a high-end ryokan. The atmosphere is much quieter than the larger hotels oriented to business travelers, and the level of personal attention/service is very high. I enjoyed this hotel very much as a sort of "Tokyo oasis" and it will be high on my list for future travels.

Room: The rooms are large by Tokyo standards, on par with the top-tier int'l hotels. Because the hotel was renovated/opened in August 2014, the furnishings are new and quite nice. The bath is very distinctive, with a deep, glazed tub - check the pictures on the website. The in-room Nespresso machine was terrific. Wi-Fi was free and high quality. I thought the mattress quality for the beds was good but not great. There is a washing machine (free of charge) and a small library room on the floor with the guest rooms.

Service: I had a great experience here. The front desk staff were incredibly friendly and helpful with everything from directions to neighborhood restaurant recommendations. I felt completely welcome. My interactions with staff were almost entirely in Japanese, but my sense is that the level of English proficiency is also pretty high. The hotel has a small, comfortable restaurant - the ochasuke breakfast is excellent and is a great deal by Tokyo standards.

Neighborhood: Ochanomizu is definitely off the beaten path in terms of typical Tokyo hotel locations, but is surprisingly convenient. The hotel is directly across the street from the Shin-Ochanomizu station on the Chiyoda subway line, and is less than a 5 minute walk from the JR train station and the Marunouchi subway line. It turned out to be very easy to get to the Tokyo station area and most other places. I also liked the neighborhood around the hotel - Ochanomizu is very much a student neighborhood, so there are plenty of inexpensive dining options, and it is a short walk to the Jinbocho (bookstores) or Akihabara (electronics) areas. This is not comparable to staying in Ginza or Akasaka in terms of nightlife and expense-account restaurants, but it is a nice change if you want a more laid-back atmosphere. Taxis can be a little hard to locate at times.

Value: Excellent. In terms of room size, amenities, and service, Ryumeikan is right there with the top hotels in Tokyo but is significantly less expensive.

Overall: I booked at Ryumeikan because most larger hotels in Tokyo were packed for a convention and I was intrigued by the idea of a small boutique hotel in Tokyo. It far surpassed my expectations - if you are comfortable navigating a less-familiar neighborhood (and, ideally, relying on the subway system) - this is a terrific choice. I think the Ryumeikan is still a little under the radar in terms of Tokyo hotel options, but my guess is that it is going to rapidly gain fans.

Such a cozy, warmhearted welcome i received in the my first night in Tokyo, Japan. I wanted to experience Japanese lifestyle even a little bit during my business trip.First challenge into Kanda, but really cool spot where so many exciting real Tokyo-life. Nearby Yushima temple, Akihabara electric town, furthermore so many exciting culturally spots like Antique-bookstores, music guitar shops, temples, churches, local cool restaurants...so fun and very inspiring location. In the hotel, what a wonderful warm and gentle service with plenty smiles by hotel people. Only 9 rooms made me feel more private and at home. The most thing I was very excited was POTTERY BATHTUB! I recall it's called "Goemon buro", soaking deeply dropping smooth bathsalt made by SAKE! Very distinctive relaxation where I had ever in the past in Toko at a snob luxurious hotel....all setting in my room made me feel not phony, but deeply thoughtful, maybe should say it """Omotenashi". Ryumeikan is the newly nestle where to be able to escape from stressful buz trip:) Try once, worth for it. Thank you for Ryumeikan people! From Stella....
