The Mandarin Oriental Tokyo garners praise for its attentive service and elegant atmosphere, with many guests appreciating the sophisticated decor and luxurious feel. Travelers laud the hotel's amenities such as the breathtaking views and sumptuous rooms, though some wish for more modern features. While the rooms' cleanliness and spaciousness receive commendations, the value proposition is questioned by guests who expect more for the premium cost. The central location is popular, offering convenience despite occasional concerns about proximity to certain districts like Ginza.

My wife and I spent four nights at the Mandarin Oriental while visiting Tokyo. It was everything you'd expect from a Mandarin. The room was spacious and well maintained with amazing views of the city below. Excellent spa facilities. What most stood out, however, was the quality of the service -- personal attention at every turn. The concierge was very helpful in arranging dinner and show reservations. I left my glasses in a taxi one evening and the bell captain managed to track down the taxi and get them back.

The location in the Nihonbashi area is well suited for touring the city. The hotel is directly on top of Mitsukoshimae Station, which serves the Ginza and Hanzomon subway lines. You get the benefit of easy access to different parts of the city while staying in an area that is quieter and less frenetic than the Ginza or Shibuya.

I recommend joining Fans of Mandarin Oriental. This entitled us to free breakfasts each morning at the sumptuous buffet. An excellent deal.

Am staying here as I write this review. Was let down by the Concierge initially as their response was lacking but Mr Yoshi ( hotel manager) sprung into action to rectify the situation which I greatly appreciate. Concierge does reply promptly to me thereafter.
Upon arrival to hotel, you will be amazed by how the hotel staff treat their guest.
From the bell counter team, they greet you when you are back just like true Japanese hospitality and you feel so right at home. On one morning when I wanted directions to Tokyo station, one of the lady staff even walked me out to the Main Street to ensure I am on the right path and it was a cold day that day! Fantastic service!

Check in desk staff was fluent in English and did a fast job checking us in.

Kudos to the breakfast team too! They are also the highlight of the stay. Very warm welcome every morning and you really feel like they take care of you as if you are their very valued guest. I was taking their honey the first morning and the staff remembered it and automatically took a serving of the honey for me when I sat down at the table! Fantastic customer service tat wows the guest. Breakfast is skis very good here.

Room view was fantastic with a good view of Tokyo tower. Night siege is romantic. Room toiletries are all very good quality and turndown service provided us a essential oil ( which is really great smelling) and a small snack. Excellent!

Hotel is about 10 mins walk to Tokyo station. Very easy walk and a subway station is connected to hotel with a shopping mall next to it. The basement food hall is very good too.

Mr Yoshi seems to have run a very competent team of staff who really treats their customers like VIP. I feel so pampered staying here! The hotel is pricey but their customer service is above and beyond the rest of the 5-star hotels. Stay here if you want to be pampered!

Thank you to Mr Yoshi and his team of hotel staff for the great hospitality- I still have 6 more nights of pampering!

My biggest regret staying at the Mandarin Oriental is that it makes it harder to stay anywhere else. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable and the quality of the room (especially the bed) was top notch.

What separates MO from other high end hotels are the little things. Knowing that we were bringing a toddler, the room was child-proof and there were toys and a kid-sized toothbrush waiting for us.

Shout-out to Niko Penttinen who brought us to our room. Looking smart in his suit, he poured us glasses of champagne and patiently explained all the room amenities and electronics, making sure we had everything we needed.

I would recommend the MO for anyone who wants a special stay while in Tokyo.

Not too fancy, downstairs is the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi store, very convenient for shopping. Impeccable service like any other MO. Bath products are made of BV, which is especially easy to use. Clean and tidy room, comfortable bed, very good view from the room. There are two restaurants for breakfast. One is self-help and the other is fixed food. Both restaurants are very nice. There are several Michelin restaurants in Tokyo, so you can eat well at the hotel. The Wenhua Bakery on the first floor is also very good. Cloud cake is said to be very popular. This is definitely my favourite hotel in Tokyo!

One of the best hotels in the world, had thought of trying the Aman Tokyo but decided to return to the Manderin, we were here a few years ago and it’s still wonderful. We stayed in late September 2019. It has great rooms all are large and well appointed, very attentive staff, the Chinese restaurant was not as good as last time (last time the chef was happy to prepare dim sum in the evening for me), the bar is wonderful especially the small area under the staircase surrounded by water.....reserved only for residents. The location is very safe and as my husband is a lawyer and travels a lot for work I felt as always very safe and comfortable in the hotel and walking at night from the hotel to the shops in Ginza. All in all a wonderful stay.

We wanted to start our stay in Japan in style and were not disappointed. Well appointed in this amazing city and with commanding views the hotel was the right mix of modernity and style with classic Japanese overtones. The breakfast room had super views of Mount Fuji and the menu selection was outstanding. The concierge was very helpful in organising various trips. Of course the japanese dining experience in Tokyo is amazing but I confess we couldn't resist their fois gras and truffle wagu burger at the bar one time. Highly recommended.

On a family trip to Tokyo, with two boys (high school age), we enjoyed the hospitality of the Mandarin Oriental. The rooms were excellent with very good touches (e.g., laundry pick up and return was via a secure cubical). Staff was very friendly, spoke multiple languages, and very welcoming. The boys much enjoyed the health club facilities. The western + Japanese breakfast selections were varied and well present, enhanced by a great view of the City.

My husband and I have stayed at other Mandarin Oriental properties and have always been pleased with them, but the Tokyo branch is now our favorite. Our room was spacious, elegant, well equipped, spotless and supremely comfortable. In some hotels you can choose a down or foam pillow. Here you are presented with a pillow menu featuring about 10 different types. The views from our room and all of the public spaces were breathtaking! Service was outstanding, prompt and efficient, and every member of the team that we met was thoroughly delightful. Even before we arrived the concierge team secured dinner reservations for us and provided information about activities we wanted to do, such as visiting a sumo stable to view a practice session. The restaurants outside the hotel were fantastic! Superb food at a reasonable price for the quality and not tourist traps. In fact, most of the other patrons were locals. But don’t miss Tapas Molecular Bar in the hotel. We adored it during our last visit to Tokyo and it was every bit as wonderful the second time. As Fans of MO, we chose the included breakfast amenity and the selection and quality was superb. Plus breakfast from room service is included, which is highly unusual in most hotels. It was very helpful on the morning when we had to leave early for the sumo practice. Since room service is 24/7 we had a leisurely early breakfast in our room before heading out. The way they set the table was so beautiful I regret that we didn’t take a photo. In the restaurant at breakfast they seated us by the window with a different view each time and on our last morning we had a view of Mt. Fuji and they served us a special treat. The bell team remembered us by name after our first encounter. We felt so valued and welcomed. The location is great and close to stores where we were able to pick up some items we needed. We stayed for 4 nights and were very sad to leave. In our opinion Mandarin Oriental offers superior value for the cost. Thank you to all who made our stay so special!

The hotel has a fabulous location a few blocks from the Tokyo Station and next door to a major department store. The hotel is on the upper floors of an office building, with spectacular views of the city as well as Mt Fuji. Staff was exceptional, providing friendly, efficient, professional service. Our room had a large closet area with multiple sets of drawers and plenty of room for hanging clothes. (Our daughter put a roll away bed for her kids in this area!) The bathroom had a large open shower, tub, lighted make-up mirror, a separate toilet area, and a nice selection of amenities. In the room was an electric tea pot, coffee machine, complimentary bottled water, binoculars and air purifier. The breakfast buffet was spectacular, offering a wide selection of Japanese and Western dishes. An option to order hot dishes off the menu was also included. Recommend room with Mount Fuji view.

Having just experienced one of the worst hotels, I feel compelled to review one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at. You will not need to ask for anything here and you will be treated like royalty. At the end of the day, depending on what you pay, every hotel can be beautiful, every room can be nice, every bed can be comfy. What makes a hotel stand out is their staff and service. Are they anticipating your needs? Are they making you feel special? Are they acknowledging you when they get the opportunity to do so? Here they will. Yes, it’s beautiful. Yes, it’s amazingly clean. And yes, you will leave thinking you can’t wait to come back. The tiny details in the room such as the beautiful kimono robes, the treats at bedside and the different delicious desserts and fruits we got each night were wonderful. The breakfast buffet was unbelievable..full of everything you could think of or want and so fresh and delicious, never mind the gorgeous view and hosts who knew what you wanted before you asked. Never once did I see dirty plates sitting out waiting to be cleared or room service trays on the floor in the hallway. It is immaculate. And the best part is, you never see how the sausage is made as they say. Never once had to ask for housekeeping, it’s as if they had a chip planted on us and the minute we went outside, a team hustled in and made the room even cleaner than when we first saw it. Never saw anyone unless I wanted to, then they were there to offer suggestions, directions, car service, umbrellas, water, complimentary “bartender’s cocktail of the day” drinks and snacks. If you walk in with your shopping bags you are immediately asked if they can take them for you and bring them to your room so you don’t have to carry them any further. And no one standing there with their hand out looking for tips, the job would get done and they’d zip off before u had a chance. They did everything and expected nothing. I know not all the waitstaff spoke English, but they all tried very hard and we had no problem understanding. I felt so safe, so taken care of, so special. This is what a 5 star experience is. Do not hesitate for a moment to book here, you won’t regret it.
