We had to stay here since it is the most convenient hotel near our meeting place for our mt. fuji tour. Sadly, it is an old hotel, thus you cannot expect superb ambiance, or (at least) good facilities. I think there are better hotels for the price same as what we got.

Close to Shinjuku station. Friendly, attentive staff and a number of English speaking staff on Reception. Spacious rooms, well furnished although beds rather firm. Fantastic breakfast buffet with many options including Western. Family Mart 2min walk up the road. Numerous restaurants just a short stroll down the road. Would stay again.

Great location just 10 mins walk from the Government building for the best views of Tokyo. Booked a budget double and it was the cheapest room I could find in Shinjuku for just under £60 a night for the 2 of us and I couldn't fault it. The shuttle runs on time and regularly and although staff didn't speak the... More

English speaking crew in the lobby. Free shuttle Buss to and from hotel to shinjuku station. Reliable internet and we always came home to a clean room with new utilities even when leaving the room late.

This was the worst hotel that we stayed at during our recent trip to Europe and Japan. The staff appear to feel that they are doing you a favour by letting you stay there. There is no real service such as bags being delivered to your room and guests were left to struggle with their own bags. The rooms were... More

No frills, but decent price (off Internet). Good neighborhood. They were very strict about 3pm check in, which was annoying, as it seemed the room would have been ready at 2pm, when I arrived. Breakfast Buffett available, but I ate in a local restaurant.

We stayed at Shinjuku New City Hotel for 4 nights. We enjoyed our stay, the rooms are a bit dated and small but we expected that for the price we paid, however we weren't disappointed. The best part of the hotel was the free shuttle every 20mins to the train station. Staff were very helpful and there was a handy... More

Old, smelly, terrible mattress, worn out carpet, pathetic. Stuck here because I was tired, arrived late, and didn't plan a reservation. $180.00 - I'd have gladly paid more for anything. Do not stay here unless you are accustomed to some Time Square dump. I cant imagine how anyone found anything nice to say about this place. One star because I... More

The New City is showing its age but makes up for this with its charm. The staff is friendly and helpful, and it's onsite restaurant quite good. There is a free shuttle bus to Shinjuku Station yet still within walking distance. From the station there is a myriad of activities to get into and the metro station links you to all... More

I got a deal on a semi-double room. For the price it was a decent size, comfortable, and clean. Had good facilities (bathroom, TV, fridge, tea/coffee) and supplies. The discount of the buffet breakfast at the cafe downstairs was very handy. The location is great: close enough to Shinjuku station (about 7-10min walk through Shinjuku Chuo park) to be convenient,... More

Staying in Shinjuku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinjuku
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.
