I was only here for 3 nights while I was working outside the city. It is a nice enough hotel although the rooms are typically (for Japan) very small. Although small, they are very well appointed. The Italian restaurant is acceptable and also serves breakfast, though I never managed to be there for this. It is very well located for...

It was our first trip to Tokyo. Easy to travel via the Skyliner from Narita airport to Ueno station. It is convenient to reach the hotel via the underground pass during raining weather or walk across the street for 10 mins from the Skyliner stn or 5 mins from the Ueno JR station. The hotel is facing the stations directly...

I chose the Mitsui Garden Hotel Ueno while in Tokyo for business, and was very happy with it. The transport access is quite convenient. The Skyliner from Narita goes right to Ueno, and then (once you figure out the pedestrian tunnels), you can walk underground almost to the hotel's door. It is easy to get around the city on the...

This was my first time in Tokyo and I only had three days to see the sights. A local tour guide helped me decide to stay in Ueno (not a trendy hot spot area but an area rich in cultural hot spots and museums) and this location allowed me to take the Skyliner bullet train with my luggage right from...

This was our first (out of 6) hotel for our two week vacation in Japan, and boy were we off to a good start! Though the room was not particularly big, it was cozy and equipped with useful amenities: one of them being a multiway charger that can fit various devices. The hotel also pays close attention to female guests,...

Location & surrounding: good location but poor surrounding. I chose this hotel solely because of its location. I need to catch a very early flight back. It's very near to Ueno station Keisei line (express train to Narita). But like most cities around the world, I usually feel that areas around major train stations aren't pleasant and this one included....

This hotel does everything it says it does on the can! It is close to Ueno station and provides a good base to see Tokyo and surrounding areas. Room was small and clean but was only sleeping there. Ate at the Italian restaurant and the meal was good. Staff polite and helpful.

Good sized rooms (Japan), very clean, very correct service. Located just outside the Ueno train station with access to major lines and a train to the airport (Kensei Line). If your trip relies on train connections in Tokyo this is the place.

Stayed in May for 5 nights, location is excellent, the room itself is okay...having stayed in Tokyo many times before I knew what to expect. But still, the room was really small. Even for Japanese standards. My wife really liked the amenities, especially the ION hair dryer and whatnot. Bathroom was fine, staff was nice, but I just thought it...

Located across the street from Ueno station Asakusa exit and close to the Metro entrance, the Mitsui Garden Hotel is great for a one or two night stay. Close by and about 5 minutes walk is the excellent Ueno Park - a perfect place to have a picnic and recharge yor batteries. The hotel looks relatively new and modern although...

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
