The staff are super friendly and you feel like you're in a little piece of history staying here. Everywhere has sliding doors and tatami mats and the yard has a little stone bridge and lanterns and is very authentic. Breakfast the next morning is homemade and delicious! Good location close to train stations but also far away enough that you're...

This hostel locates at Iriya Sta, not Asakusa sta. But you're considered will be a success. Around this hostel is real Japanese ambience and non-touristy. The first traveler of Japan, it's difficult to approach there, please check YouTube search "How to toco.-Tokyo Heritage Hostel from Keisei UENO station. " the mention of this video, when done well, Within an hour...

Came here as a solo female backpacker. It was my last few nights in Japan and I couldn't have imagined a better place to spend it. From the photos you can tell the guest house is from the edo period and offers a great sense of history. I stayed in a dorm and the rooms are cozy. For my room...

Firstly, it is ancient wooden house, just lovely. Beautiful Japanese garden. It caught my heart when I looked in Toco's website and it really captured my soul when I saw it myself when I checked in. Love it! The staffs are great, youthful, friendly and lots of fun. and Don't forget to try the breakfast... at least once. Rice balls,...

This is a magical place, beautiful old Japanese house, very friendly people, good location, cool bar. Only drawback, rooms downstairs are a bit noisy. But would stay here again every time I come to Tokyo.

Toco is a great little guest house in the Taito ward of Tokyo. It is a short walk from the Iriya Station on the Tokyo Metro line (2-3 minute walk, depending on what entrance/exit you use). The check-in process was easy, as you pay in advance for your stay and the optional breakfast of miso soup, onigiri, and tofu pockets,...

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
